Well he turned me by seducing me, like most vampires do. Then again, its incredibly hard to not be seduced by a vampire, especially one of his power at the time.

He killed himself by basically getting high enough in the atmosphere when he flew the ultraviolet rays were exponentially more powerful than on the surface and he burned, finally.  People reported it as a shooting star in the middle of the day. Albeit it wasn't the exact wording that is the most accurate translation.
