There's generally two opinions, that the 'old man' was Noal, and that he was King Alsalam. So far, the latter seems more and more likely to me, but it's still undefined.

 

Either way, as JakeBarnes says, Graendal being balefired won't affect anything she did before the point her thread was burned back to, and I seem to remember that the maths says that that amounts to not more than a few days at most.

either way if he was, then with Graendals death then he is free, and then the effects of him (if any) coming out of it will show.

 

Noel Charin, as in the guy travelling with Mat is if anything, under compulsion from Ishamel. That is, assuming he is Jain Farstrider and Ishamel was telling the truth in EotW.

There was an old man in Graendal's palace who it is speculated, may have been either King Alsalam or Jain Farstrider.  He's probably vaporised, whoever he was.

Wasn't there an earlier quote from Graendal where she mentions that Alsalam wasn't pretty enough to keep around?  I'm unsure about this, but that's why I never suspected this might be Alsalam.

I think she does say something to that effect to Sammael. It doesn't necessarily mean that she would be telling the truth.

She might not have him on display to visitors but it makes sense for her to keep him on tap somewhere.
