I also like this explanation. It explains her leaving the tower, without hard feelings or shame. If there were hard feelings she wouldn't have named the inn after it.

 

I do have to wonder if someone so weak could still make wards against rats, especially when the Dark One's touch is so strong. But she may just have a Talent for it.
