But it's still a great story and we owe Tolkien for what he pioneered.

 

And because of that, I want to mention Harry Potter. He's been so popular, that it is now getting to the state of let's pull him down. I think J.K.Rowling has single handedly increased book sales by millions, put young adult fantasy on the map, got kids and adults into reading, got publishers into publishing more fantasy..... the list goes on. So maybe not the best book ever, but certainly one of the most remarkable ones. Fantasy owes her a thank you too.
