I've heard it's not that good.

The cycle as a whole is meh. Paolini started off kinda weak, borrowing tons of elements from other great fantasy works. I got into Eragon before I knew WoT existed, so back then it was pretty epic for me to read. XD

I actually enjoyed Eldest more than Eragon, and Brisingr was pretty good, all things considered, although it wasn't really my favorite of the books.

I was thinking Inheritance was going to be on a level with Eragon, or even Eldest, and started reading it only because I need to know how the story ends (XD), but Paolini has very clearly grown a lot as an author in the 13 years since he started writing Eragon. The "catchup" section at the front of the book was painful to read, but the book itself has been pretty exciting so far, and it's well-written. As far as fantasy goes, it doesn't really compare to any of the classic, well-known, and/or well-loved stuff, but I attribute that more to the story itself and less to the author, now.

It's too early to tell whether I think the Inheritance cycle as a whole was worth reading, since it had some very very weak moments to start out with, but Inheritance (the novel; last book) is worth it so far. I dunno, I really like it and I think Paolini's not as terrible as some people think he is because of his earlier books. XD
