It's an optical illusion caused by silt and sand being washed into the crevice.

Two of the gerbilies randomly started fighting last night and I thought they were just playing but then they were both covered in loads of blood and now they not vair well and Karldini no been looking good for a while and he won't stop shaking and I get too attached to adorable small fluffy creatures...
