Though it's more a downfall of the societies of the mages than one of civilization in general.

Either way, I made this one person who's important in the current story a bit of an outcast.

(don't worry about spoilers by the way (in case I ever get to release it); there's that's supposed to stay secret)

And then I immediately also have a plausible device to get her together with the other main character.

And then I was like, but I want an important plot line here too, or it feels too much like a useless part of the series, to the point where you wonder why I'm making it so difficult for the main character to only be able to access the real plot events in a sorta dream-like state.
