My wife sort of volunteered me to digitize a bunch of records at the local historical society.

Lol my brother is always doing stuff like that. My church has a big thing for genealogy, so they always encourage people to do what they call "indexing," which is just reading ancient handwriting on census records and stuff and then typing it into a digital form. 

I'm noticing a pattern that couples who've been together for ages tend to die together.

 

 

Like one keels over and the other just gives up on life and dies a few months later.

I guess they can't live without each other? I dunno. Both of my grandmas survived my grandpas--one of them by nearly twenty years now. 

Like my mom's parents will probably go that way.  Both in their mid 80s, she's in worse health than he is, taking care of her is what gives him a purpose and keeps him moving around instead of sitting in a chair all day.
