ive a question does the cassandra clare Mortal instruments series count as steampunk? I dont really know what you mean by the term...

Steampunk is a relatively new genre, well not new in itself but it has only been given a name recently. I haven't heard of the books you talk about, Basel may have though. It's a mix of the victorian period (dress, machinery etc) but given a sci fi/fantasy twist. Google it, I've only just started to get into it myself, it's rather theatrical which is right down my alley.

I've never even heard of that series. I couldn't describe steampunk better than the Wikipedia entry does.
