rand's insanity wasn't the taint

Featured Replies

Look, all I'm asking for is an 'agree to disagree' state without accusations, and 'rude' commentary. Statements such as, "That seems to be a favorite past time for some...", "So it's you who's picking and choosing," and accusing someone of selective reading is kinda spiteful and unfortunate.

*spelling, sorry

To clarify I was agreeing with Ares point and then tried to push the conversation back on to the topic. Sorry to say if you think the bolded above is spiteful, you haven't seen much of what goes on here or at Theoryland. Many times you need perspective on how certain opinions come about. If someone misinterprets(willfully?) quotes and text on a regular basis that is a perfectly valid statement.

Regardless instead of derailing the thread further let's just move back to the topic.

By that response, I get the feeling that you either don't realize (or maybe don't care) that what you have written could be taken offensively. Anyways, you make me smile sometimes :)

Carry on with the topic at hand!!!! (see what i did there?)

Guess

I will say although he is rather unconventional in his interpretations and I rarely agree, I do respect Kael's tenacity in holding to his opinions.

Suttree v Kael Pyralis

Oh come now Mr Ares made the original point, I was just agreeing. Not to mention many of the old guard that haven't been around such as Randsc are far harsher on him than I am.

Not a single mention of the taint, and it specifically states that it's the immense pressure that caused Rand's insanity.

The quote Suttree posted earlier in the thread specifically mentioned that the taint was influential. It is only by selectively reading quotes that one can conclude that the taint was not a contributory factor to Rand's madness.

I believe that quote said the taint was influential in the voice, not the insanity.

The taint causes two things: physical rotting and insanity. If the taint caused the voice, then the voice is either Rand physically rotting away, or it is him going insane. Or you are inventing new powers for the taint which have no basis in the books or authorial statements. If we can rule out the last and the first due to lack of evidence, that leaves one possible explanation: the voice is insanity. Insanity caused by the taint.
