Oh yes indeed! The Fibonacci Sequence.. Where to begin. Simply put, it's a sequence of numbers that at first, seem completly and utterly unimportant... 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55 and so on...

I was a math major for my 2 years of college but I took a lot of physics and could always switch when I get back in.

OKEY FELLOWS!! Tau or Pi?

pi cuz it makes Euler's equation really cool.

π for sure. Without it, we would be lost in Trig. And that's my favorite subdivision of math.

Pi hands down, cause Tau was never the title of a Darren Aranovsky (sp?) film

 

Here's prob a better question: Fibonacci sequence, or the Golden ratio?

 

Both numbers are all over the place in nature and even have their own place in numerology worship and sacred geometry (Melchizidek ftw!)

Before anyone asks, yes, they are related, but fibonacci is basically a system expressed through integers for the most part, whereas the golden ratio is always the same, regardless of how far in the progression you are

And because of this, fibonacci can be expressed in some systems that the golden ratio can't; for example in number of offspring for certain species. Since two bunny parents can't have 1.61803399 times the amount of offspring without some messy births, fibonacci has the edge here

In all seriousness, I once read a paper which annotated startling connections between many of these abstract/imaginary/whatever you want to call em numbers, like e and pi and phi and such. Very out there stuff and it def included some maths that were over my head, but the stuff I did grasp was very interesting
