Ok - because they think modern technology will save them even though I am thinking if man does figure out how to extend their life anytime soon, the process will likely be done to embryonic humans not ones who are already fully grown.

Lighties think themselves so noble and good. When you can break them and lure them into Shadow, it gives a special pleasure because they think they are strong enough to oppose Shadow. (I'm not officially Shadow member yet, but I'll surely join when I become a soldier.)
