If I remember correctly St Paul's cathedral was only hit once during the entire Blitz, slightly before the Blitz started the British government wanted to fortify the dome of the cathedral with a chain of some sort for structural support in case it did get hit, but when they took of whatever part of the building they wanted to put the chain into they found one had already been placed by the original builders many years before
