The mobile shows you a nice little red box with a # in it next to the Messenger square when you're on your phone. 
It does for me, anyways. Granted, I have New Content as a bookmark and use that more often than not because sometimes DM resets your search settings. 

I use the book mark. It shows up for me when i click that. I just dont click it much
