I tried so hard to find a picture of the horse archers at the Battle of Pelennor Field.  The archers controlled their mounts with leg/seat and both hands were free to battle against the oliphonts.  Probably some of my favorite battle scenes to be sure . . . 

 

Four weapons - bow, spear, sword and horse.  When you run out of arrows, you have a spear. When that's gone, you have your horse and your sword.

As much as I like the skill and mark of ability of a two-handed blade, I don't think it was queit so practicle in the early middle ages sword and board/mounted fighting (trust me this is hard to say as I'm a die hard fan of swiss-sabers, messers, etc.).  That being said for a beautiful one handed blade, I've always loved the Type XIX's, particularly the Italian design at the Alexandria arsenal:

My favorite armor is... Mine!

 

 

I'm on the left.  The orangish armor is based on a Visby coat of plates which looks something like this on the inside.

Your opponent needs to cover his kidneys a bit, heh?

He and I have talked about his armor.  For the most part, it protects him but I do worry about the gap between the back and front plates.

I think your armor looks amazing Hiarth!!! and super inventive too...way to go you =)
