One in the sky, one in the earth, and one in the sea.

Correct Kronos. The tles of them were that one Silmaril was taken from the crown of Morgoth by Beren and Luthien. That one ended up being made into a star hence it ended in the sky. The other two were surrendered after thw War of Wrath, which resulted in morgoth's Capture by the Valar, to the last two surviving sons of Feanor who had created the Silmarils originally. Unfortunately those two sons had sworn an oath to regain them basically at any cost and had committed some bad acts in attempting to fulfill their oath. When they touched the Silmarils their hands were burned and in their anguish one threw his into the ocean and the other into a deep chasm. Or at least that is how I remember it.
