Why is it called 9-5

Play and find out!

If it's in reference to Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, and Dabney Coleman I'm in.

The mafia game is likely to be based on the film, containing it's characters. And the characters are likely to have abilities and affiliations based on their role in the movie.

A lot of mafia games are themed like this.

Do I have it right we most likely won't be allowed to character claim due to an eventual advantage for those who have seen the movie, then?

You will need absolutely no prior theme knowledge to play this game.

In fact all speculations about the game theme thus far have been wrong

I hope so.  Mine was a joke.

He wants  14 players so it can be 9 to 5. With a stacked town to make up for the mafia numbers.
