I think that was the scene that truly hooked me on the series and it still makes me teary after all these years and re-readings.

You know what ... I do believe it's the same for me!

I agree, that scene got me so stocked and it played a wonderful piece in foreshadowing a certain someone's rise to power and a reason to keep Two Rivers in the story beyond, "that's where the characters are from."
