Can you believe it's been six months already!?! For those of you who don't know, six months ago we started a snail mail pen pal exchange. WE had a lot of folks sign up and we've had a lot of fun with the post office since then, too! :D We agreed to renew our efforts and add new people and new pen pals in six months. And here we are! The original thread is here, if you want to read Twinny's much better explanation: http://forums.dragonmount.com/index.php/topic,46695.0.html My questions are: 1- If you are already signed up, are you still keeping in contact with your pen pal? Would you like to switch pen pals? 2- If you're not signed up, would you l…

The theme for July is short stories and I'm determined to write one. About you! :D Go ahead and make 'em a good guy, a bad girl or any mix in between. Magic or not, buxom or flat. Ah, I love these things. They're just too freakin' funny. For those of you who don't know what Mad Libs are, they're a written passage with words taken out. You get a list of parts of speech that are missing without having the passage to know what's supposed to go there. You come up with words to fill in the list and it's added to the paragraph, usually result in something that makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE and it's funny as all get out! Check it out here: http://www.madglibs.com/ My example: Be Kind List of words needed: Noun: Cow Noun (plural): lips Noun: runner Place: The Moon Adjective: fluffy Noun: parka The result: Be kind to your C…

WHOO HOO!! *claps and bounces all around* It's time for our POSTCARD exchange! This is really become one of the most participated in and active exchanges here at the Kin! Sometimes it seems to go on for months even! LOL As folks receive their postcards, they post here! It's fun to see who sent what kind of card and to who... And, this is pretty inexpensive so lots of our members get to participate! It costs 28 cents to mail a postcard in the USA. From the USA to anywhere overseas, the stamp is 98 cents! A postcard to Canada from the USA is 75 cents! If any of you overseas know the costs in reverse could you please post them? *smiles* A post…

Ok, last year Twinny and I were talking about this for the Seed exchange and a lot of things happened to keep it from happening. This year, I'd like to try it! Here's what I want to do: 1- mail people the same packet of stuff (pot, soil, seeds, etc) 2- You plant the seeds and keep a journal of the little plant's progress (with pictures if possible). That's pretty much it. I bought these neat pots a few months ago that you color yourself and I think I know which seeds to send (they're really neat to watch!). All I need is some guinea pigs that will let me send it to them and would be willing to get their hands dirty taking care of them! So, who's i…

Memorial Day is a national holiday in the United States, celebrated the last Monday in the month of May. Originally called Decoration Day, the observance began at the end of the Civil War to honor the fallen Soldiers. Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, in his General Order No. 11, and was first observed on 30 May 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. For many years, the Southern States ignored the holiday, observing their own set days. After WWI, the holiday changed from honoring only Civil War sold…

  18. I would like to take a vacation...not a terribly long one, just a week, because I don't really think I can afford more time off of work than that. I have a plan and everything, I'm ready to actually book the trip (flight+hotel), it's in the second week of June... I'm just not sure if I should do it or not. I want to go to Provo, UT, for a week. Partly because I've never seen mountains in person and partly because DSage lives about 20 minutes from Provo. He won't be able to get enough time off of work to come visit me until at least September, and I'd like to be able to at least see each other once before then if possible (that's a long way away, ya know, …

  19. Alright, so let's chat about our exchange this month. We have two on the "traditional activity list" but I don't want to cut down on the number of folks involved by splitting it into two exchanges. SO, I'd like your input on how to handle the exchange this month. Our options are: 1- Just do the seed/bulb exchange. 2- Just do the Spring Thing Exchange (this is where you exchange things that are SPRINGY. If you translate that into the season Spring, that's cool. If you translate that into an actual spring, that's cool, too!) 3- Mix them depending on who your buddy is/do both with the same exchange partner! My vote is on 3, but I want your input. I know s…

The Kin, May 2010 Five years ago this month, a small and amazing group of friends had the idea for the Kin Org (Social Group)! Their hopes and dreams for the Kin have blossomed and become a very special place many of us call home at DM! One of the reasons we are such a great Org, is because we celebrate each other and our differences, rather than chafe at conforming to an expectation! Keeping that thought in mind, and thinking about the activities we are having this wonderful month of May, I think I can sum up the theme of this month in a few specific words: Memories, Honor, Heritage, and Love. *smiles* we’ll see if y’all agree as you check out this month i…

  22. On May 12th it is the International CFS-ME and fibromyalgia awareness day. Please help spread information on these diseases, to help those who have them and those close to them. Being a person who has CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) and that am feeling people's lack of knowledge, I see how important it is to get the information out there. People who do not have the knowledge will very easily judge. The last thing someone with CFS-ME and fibromyalgia needs is being judged. Here is a link to information about the CFS-ME awareness day on May 12th: http://www.mesupport.co.uk/index.php?page=m-e-cfs-awareness-day Also, here is a link to the Facebook page for the B…

Hello, all! For our little discussion this month, I thought we could open up a collection of things we love and hate about Spring. If there are ways to fix the love/hate relationship we have with the season, share them! For example, I hate that Spring is the time of year when my allergies are at their worst. A possible "fix" for this issue is eating a tablespoon of locally harvested honey once a day during Spring to build up the immunity in my system. However, I LOVE the flowers! I love watching things grow and it makes me feel FREAKIN' AWESOME when I plant something in the right place, with the right amount of light, and the right supply of water and it grows…

May is Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Awareness Month. How do I know this? I most likely have EDS, that's how. (No official diagnosis, but who knows your body better than you, right?) I meant to write up a nice long thing about EDS here, but I'll leave that to the professionals. Here are some sites about EDS. If you have any questions about EDS I'll do my best to answer, though. ;D Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Wikipedia Ehlers-Danlos National Foundation Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Network C.A.R.E.S. Hello, all! We haven't done a sign in in a while and this one will be a little different because the admins told me I had to. All I need you to do is pop in here and post to let me know you're around and reading our threads. Please post just once and don't respond to anything that's said in here (so don't say anything expecting a response). I need the "number of replies" to equal what my report is saying our activity level is. So, are you here?

Back in 1962, Senator Gaylord Nelson, Founder of Earth Day, decided the status of our earth, with it's rivers, oceans, forests, deserts, wildlife and everything else in it, needed to be recognized. So many of our natural resources slowly dwindling away and no one was aware, much less interested, in it's well fair. Mr. Nelson brought this to the attention of President Kennedy and the President went on tour to promote Earth Day. While not much publicity happened after the tour, six years later a major revolution happened in the college campus's across the nation. On April 22nd, 1969 the first Earth Day celebration happened with overwhelming results. (http://…

  29. Torrie finishes wiping down the tables and stands up with a sigh. She looks around the Pub and nods with approval. There is a dancing floor, a bar, tables with small candles in the center, and a place for a band. Everything is ready. The doors are about to be thrown open and the nightlife at the Kin will soon be in full swing. I need a drink to start this party off. She walks around the bar and starts to make an Irish Coffee. She sits down to await the crowd.
