It's that time of year again. February is the time to put your spare time and money to a good cause. It's Service/Volunteer month at the White Tower! In years past, the White Tower has always sponsored Service/Volunteer month. Last year, we didn't do any service projects, but Mother has asked that we renew this tradition again this year. Since I'm a big supporter of volunteering and service for our communities, I'm going to be spearheading the event this year. For all of you Novices and Accepteds, there's an opportunity to gain some points in this endeavor, so I urge you to participate and take advantage of that. And I hope that our established members will also…

Well today is Shrove Tuesday or better know in the the UK as Panckae Day. First a few facts: Pancakes were made so as to use up the eggs and butter before Lent began. This tradtion is very old and the receipe for pancakes can be found in cookbooks as far back as 1439. Pancake tossing goes back to the seventeenth century. The worlds largest pancake was made in Rochdale (UK) in 1994. It was 15ms diameter and weighed 3 tonnes. If eaten was estimated to be about 2 million calories  Ralf Laue from Leipzig holds the world record for tossing a pancake. 416 times in 2 minutes. Mike Cuzzacrea ran a marathan while continuing to toss a pancake for 3ho…

I have always been single and depressed on Valentine's Day, so I created a holiday just for singles when I was in college: Cheer Up Singles Day, which is on February 15th each year. Some of you already know about this holiday, since Nia and I did a celebration here on DM a couple of years ago. I decided to bring the celebration back since it was so popular before. Come one, come all, to the singles party! *Hands out red roses and pins that say "I think, therefore I'm single"* The first thing I'd like to do to make our single people feel special is to let them know that they are freakin' awesome. I'll start by listing some single people I know on DM and talking…

What's your favorite opening line of a book? Me, I have several, but one of the best ones is from William Goldman's "the Silent Gondoliers". Everyone knows that the gondoliers in Venice are the greatest - correction, sorry - everyone used to know that the Gondoliers of Venice are the greatest singers in the world. And I also like the very simple opening line of "Rebecca" by Daphne DuMaurier: Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again.

Hey guys, how's your reading going? I have started Clash of Kings and so far it looks great! I also hope to at least read one more book on the list, possibly P&P as I've been meaning to re-read that for a while now. Anyway, for those of you who have forgotten all about this, here are the books for January/February: Into the Wild - Jon Krakauer Clash of Kings - George R.R. Martin Pride and Predjudice - Jane Austen

If I was to try to capture you in the wild, what kind of bait would I use? For example, Kathanas are easily lured by bright, shiney objects of no real value, dark chocolate, hot tea and unlimited internet access.

So its nearly noon on a WEdnesday (for me anyways) and I think most everyone should be up and dressed by now. On a typical Wednesday morning, what do you wear? Today I'm wearing a green sweater with black slacks and black boots. I'm also wearing a pink, fake gemstone brooch and a big silver butterfly hair clip. I wanted to wear my silver Asha'man pin today, but I couldn't find it. I skipped makeup today, because I was feeling lazy. Usually, I'm wearing a skirt and a jacket, but again, feeling lazy today.

So what does everyone do for a living around here? What kind of jobs do we have? And if you haven't gotten to the "career" stage of your life yet, what would you like to do? As anyone who talks to me for longer than five minutes knows, I'm a teacher. I teach a class called "Humanities", which is language arts and social studies combined. We basically read and write about social studies for two hours every day. My two classes are World Studies A (sixth grade) and World Studies B (seventh grade). I'm trained as an MS science and social studies teacher, which makes language arts a bit of a stretch for me. But as long as no one expects too much of me this year, I'll…

My sixth grade has created a new mascot. His name? Jonny Rennaissance. His mission? Saving the Renaissance from that evil wizard I'm always talking about. (If they ask me questions I don't want to answer, I tell them that a wizard did it) We've worked out a few key facts about Jonny Rennaissance that I will share with you now: FACT: Jonny Rennaissance lives in our time period. He merely travels back to the Rennaissance via a time machine cleverly disguised as Micheangelo's David. FACT: Jonny's weapon is a paintbrush that is also a flamethrower that was given to him by Micheangelo. FACT: Jonny Rennaissance lives with his mother, because no one would believe tha…

I am getting the Wolfkin mentor program going and our members really don't know what they need to do as a mentor. Since you guys have been doing that for a while, I was wondering if you guys could kinda post the stuff you do as a mentor and what is expected of a mentor? May I also ask permission to use the material posted to make a handbook for the wolfkin?

I was just thinking about all the people I've met here and realized that it's a pretty short list  I've been here a year and a half and I know of a lot of people but I don't really know much about them. So here's a little activity I thought up. Your job is to say one or two things you know about the person who posted above/before you in this thread. Not things like "I know Jaydena is the head of the Green Ajah", we all know that! Try for things like "I know Jaydena loves scrapbooking and collecting magnets". If you don't know anything about the previous person...ask them a question! What did they study in university? What is your job like and do you enjo…

For the past 5 or 6 days, it has taken me 1 to 2 hours to fall aslep after I go to bed. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas that I could try that would help me get to sleep faster. Note: Counting sheep never works. Don't suggest that.

Frink: "Yes, over here, m-hay, m-hayven... in Episode BF12, you were battling barbarians while riding a winged Appaloosa, yet in the very next scene my dear, you're clearly atop a winged Arabian! Please do explain it!" Lucy Lawless: "Uh, yeah, well, whenever you notice something like that... a wizard did it." Frink: "Yes, alright, yes, in episode AG04--" Lucy Lawless: "Wizard!" Frink: "Oh, for glavin out loud..." -- The Simpsons, "Treehouse of Horror X" My middle schoolers, especially my seventh graders, are very literal creatures. Honestly, I think some of it is just an attempt to be as obnoxious as humanly possible, but you know, middle schooler. Anyway…
