I had thought after reading TGS and TOM that Gawyn was the toughest of the tough having taken down three bloodknives at the same time. However, upon a re-read of the series, I see in TDR that Mat opened up a very large can of whoop ass on both Gawyn and Galad at the same time. And he did that right after he got up from his deathbed and could hardly be considered at his best. Bottom line Mat's the toughest of the tough.

Okay, don't shoot me if you think I'm asking 'stupid' questions... :-) I would like to know - exactly how big are stasis boxes? Are there different types and sizes? And if you open a box and the thing inside isn't to your liking - or is dangerous, wouldn't you have time to shut the box before the thing or person is 'woken' from stasis? I know that (Aginor? Can't remember) was opening them willy nilly until another Forsaken (Sammael?) pointed out that he might open a box full of Worms... So I guess my question is about how they work. I kind of likened it to being 'frozen' like Hans Solo, or like the passengers in their capsules on the ship at the beginning of P…

  3. I was just curious as to why there is very little symbolism regarding the Creator in the WoT books? No temples, idols, imitations or anything. The closest thing I can think of is possibly the whitecloaks sun burst. Every civilization we have discovered has created some type of symbol regarding their beliefs. I know there are a few other things, but I would like to hear from others.

This probably doesn't need a new thread, but I couldn't find any information about this: In ToM Chapter 4 Perrin dreams about Mat fighting against himself, a dozen different men wearing his face, all dressed in different types of fine clothing, never seeing the shadowy figure behind him with a bloody knife. What was this dream about?

While browsing the interwebs I managed to stumble upon this gem of a. . .creative interpretation of WOT. http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=386600 Some of my favorite quotes so far- -------------------- Moiraine: Dreams can be dangerous. Have you all had any scary dreams? Mat: I don't know if we can trust Aes Sedai. Let's keep it a secret. Rand and Perrin: Good idea. -------------------- Moiraine: DO NOT go out into Shadar Logoth, or touch anything! Mat: Let's go out into Shadar Logoth and touch things! Rand and Perrin: Good idea. -------------------- Everyone: Yayyyy! We're all together! Egwene: You're telling us you …

Mazrim Taim seems powerful enough to be a Chosen. Most of the discussion seems to be about him being/controlled by one of the remaining male forsaken, but why can't he be one? We know that the Forsaken at the end of the WOP were 13 but when they meet to discuss Rand's plan to cleanse saidin one of them recalls that the DO had killed dozens of Chosen. If there had been more Chosen before, why can't more be appointed now?

The only frustration I've had with the WoT series so far is when to read the prequel New Spring. I say it is a frustration because I have been buying the paperback box sets (I'm up to LoC but I own 9 of them) but I also found New Spring sometime ago. The problem is i don't know when to read it! It's a prequel so should I read it now while I'm on book 6? or wait? A friend of mine who is also a fellow WoT reader said I should wait till reading CoS because that is when it was published. Anyone have some thoughts on this frustration?

so i am reading, well listening, to LoC and we see Grady's son and it says that he is "clasped on her [sora's] breast"... this makes me think he is an infant but i have seen others say he is like 4 for something. i was just wondering if there is any other mention of how old Grady's son is

So with the search function being currently disabled, I figured I'd post something that I've been thinking about recently. Have we heard about any kind of school in Randland (barring the WT obviously)? I've read through the series several times and don't remember a mention of it, but I'm sure there are people on here far more diligent than I about digging up this kind of information. I noticed this because we haven't run into many characters (any?) that haven't been able to read or write, regardless of trade. While this could be answered simply by saying that parents pass down this knowledge, I wonder why any hardworking farmer would take time out of his day to …

  12. Haven't been around for a while so its good to be back. While i've been gone I've had a lot of time to think, and was thinking about the answer to his question in finnland about surviving TG. This has probably been brought up before, especially cause after I thought of it it seemed so obvious, but i haven't yet seen it on this board. I was thinking the Horn might be used to keep him alive. Suppose Rand is sealing the bore, and the DO touches him, or he loses the net of light protection on his brain just before he seals the bore. So he comes out nuts, totally bonkers and causes some mayhem before the AS get a shield on him. Or perhaps he body swaps …

While doing my re-read, I can't help but think that Alanna having bonded Rand earlier in the books won't have more significance before the end. I was wondering if anyone has any theories about why the bonding ever happened, as it would seem unlikely RJ would just have thrown it in there for no major reason...perhaps the wheel wove this in the pattern for a higher purpose? AND if for a reason, is the reason in helping the light or the dark side?

Is Nynaeve pregnant during ToM? It would certainly help provide some continuity if Lan's cliffhanger ending goes as Lan expects. [if you have read ToM, you know what I mean. OK, spoilers are allowed, but not required.] I don't know the timelines that well, so I defer to the collective wisdom on that count. Two arguments to consider: 1. Elayne's ability with the power went haywire. Different women respond differently to pregnancy; some get very sick, some don't even notice, with most in between. 2. Nynaeve should know the signs of pregnancy. She is also very adept at holding one set of rules for others and another set of rules for herself; she could easil…

see the memories of the future. I saw someone mention this in a thread a few weeks ago and there was no discussion around the fact but after recently reading Mat's first trip through the doorway I'm pretty set on the idea. The basic outline of the trip is; Mat heads through says howdy to his guide and they set off the walk for a while Mat threatens his guide Mat gets dropped off in the room with pillars Mat then outlines the story so far Mat goes on to ask his first question Things heat up and Mat asks his other questions and gets kicked out We have heard that the Finn's ability isn't related to Min's ability to 'see glimpses of the pattern', so we can …

Apologies if this has been discussed in detail elsewhere. I've read about the body swap theory, but I'm wondering about what would happen if Moridin were just killed outright--what would happen to Rand, if anything? Moridin seems concerned with keeping Rand alive...perhaps he's concerned that if Rand were to be killed, he might also die? I'm wondering if this could tie in with the "to live you must die" prophecy? To live, he has to kill Moridin, but killing Moridin would result in him dying -- sort of a catch 22 situation? Perhaps then Alivia helping Rand die could be interpreted as Alivia helping to kill Moridin (i.e., in a battle)?

At first I thought this was going to be when Rand meets the Seanchean and they put the male adam on him, but that's now resolved without Perrin's involvement. And then I thought it was going to be the confrontation with the borderlanders and their AS, but that was surprisingly peaceful. So now it appears to be the upcoming conflict against Egwene. But I can't see how they would hurt him, despite how much a egghead she is.

  20. Throughout the series, Rand has been a powerful channeling badass, whether he knew it or not. So much so, even, that he dueled it out with several Forsaken and managed to kill them. Now (referring to TOM) he has had a breakthrough with his power and seems to be vastly superior to his former self. So... with all this seemingly new power, strength, and understanding, it doesn't seem like he should find it challenging at all to deal with the rest of the Forsaken. I mean, young, weak (comparitvely), inexperienced Rand managed to beat Ishy in the sky, as well as Sammy, Rhavy, Semmi, and a couple others. New, super Rand should have no problem with the rest. And that is what I fi…

  21. The foreshadowings are one of the coolest things about the series and are one of the reasons I keep rereading the books. There is always something more to find. There are so many great ones and I'm curious to see which ones people like best. Here is my most favorite one so far. This is from LoC, Ch 6. Semirhage is ruminating while torturing Cabriana Mecandes and her warder: I find this totally great not only because it gets resolved in such an awesome way in tGS but also because it serves as a proof that Semirhage was indeed deliberately sacrificed in an attempt to turn Rand. Here is another one that I really like from tEoTW (which seems to have a fores…

I'm a bit confused about CoS/tPoD timeline. All the online timelines I've seen (like this one or this one) put Sammael's death (CoS, Ch 41) after the Bowl of the Winds is used (tPoD, Ch5). Does anyone know why that is? I don't see any obvious time markers. The reason I'm asking is that in tPoD prologue Moridin thinks while playing tcheran that only nine people living still know the game. At this time Moridin knows of the following Forsaken that are still alive: Moridin, Demandred, Aran'gar, Osan'gar, Moggy, Graendal, Cyndane (Moridin strokes her mindtrap in that scene), Semirhage and Mesaana. That's nine. With Sammael that makes 10. Moridin has a later POV spying on the …

I'm not sure if this has been brought up before, but I'd like to do so again. Sammael lead Illian before he was killed. The Hunters for the Horn took their oaths in Illian. Is it completely inconcievable that Sammael initiated the Hunt in the first place? And if so, was the Hunt truly just a way to get Darkfriends in higher society places, to have more influence? We've seen several times that people generally give the Hunters at least some sort of respect, a good example being "Lord Luc". With more power over commoners, the Pseudo-Hunters could search out the Angreal and such Sammael was said to be looking for. Thoughts?

  25. TGS spoiler alert - in what has to be, thusfar, the most out of place and curious scene in all Wheel of time, Faile, for reasons I've yet to quite understand fully or even believe "a wife must do what a husband can't...seriously?", walks up to Masema "The Prophet" Dagar and knifes the poor SOB in the heart - Prophet and his story line erased like Chuck from the first season of Happy Days. Does anyone else get the impression that, like the Whitecloaks in general, the Prophet was an interesting idea that just never panned out the way RJ thought he might. Certainly there was an effort later in the series to deal with this floating and unresolved story arc but in the end, R…

I've seen speculation, a lot of it, and some reservation to not mention the elephant, or rather, the dead mule in the room. Can it be done in 1 more book, or will it be split again like AMOL originally was? Let's put it to a vote and be honest. As rushed as Towers of Midnight was, with us sweating down to the last 1/10th of the book we're wondering where the Tower of Genji comes in, can it really only be 1 more book able to be bound and distributed, the original trouble the Team had with AMOL in the first place? If yes, it can be done in one, what do you think the pacing will be like with lal the main issues that must be tied up for completion? If no, and you think it mus…

  27. I don't know if everybody already figured this out, but I just realized it today rereading KoD. "The north and the east must be as one. The west and the south must be as one. The two must be as one." That's referring to the symbol of the aes sedai. The north and the east is the male side, what's known as the dragon's fang, and the west and the south is symbol of the female side, the flame of Tar Valon. So the Black Tower has to be there, a unification of male channellers, the White Tower has to be whole, and the two towers must be joined as one.

I've been trying to come up with a good theory that would help explain why Gitara Moroso sent Luc into the Blight. I don't have one, but was hoping a new thread might bring some new ideas to the character. It seems Gitara (or someone else) convinced Lord Luc that the outcome of Tarmon Gai'don depends upon him going to the blight. (LoC, Ch16) We know he met Isam in the high passes of the Mountains of Dhoom, and Slayer was born. (TGH, Ch17) The way I see it we have 5 possibilities: 1) Gitara didn't actually tell Luc anything, but someone else convinced him to go to the Blight. 2) The Dark Forces (Isam in particular) prevented Luc from doing what she sent him to …

Hi y'all, I don't know if this has been discussed yet. I have seen a lot of posts where there is talk about the Guardians protection and the TP not falling under it etc. I thought this idea didn't suit the topic so I made a new topic. It isn't much of an idea, but I just always keep remembering: Jordan NEVER puts anything in the book without reason. There is so much mentioning of "How could Moridin acquire so much Saa in such short instance, that I thought it relevant to try and think of what he could have done with the TP in such short time to acquire it. traveling and ordinary use seems highly doubtfull. I mean, it's the DO's champ etc. so he's not an idiot. H…
