I haven't read Towers of Midnight, so no spoilers please =) The thing is, I started reading WoT as a teenager about 13 years ago, and the books have been a part of my life ever since. I was sooo looking forward to reading ToM last autumn when it was released but just before I went to buy it, i paid Brandon Sandersons website a visit. There Brandon wrote that a few errors in the story hade been found by readers who hade bought the first edition. He also wrote that they were to be corrected in the second edition of the book released when the soft cover/paperback would be released (this autumn one year later?). I was okey with that because I was in the middle of writ…

So I took a quick lookey to see if this had been brought up and did not find it. It's just something that has been bugging me for some time. At least once per book I believe it's cropped up. Some Aes Sedai will state that their weaves are acting 'strange' or 'resisting'. This started popping up (I believe) after the cleansing of the taint on saidin. I've often wondered if this was some kind of transference, the taint now falling on saidar? As I haven't seen any new developments in the books explaining it, I turn to you guys. Help me out. I think the last (and biggest) example is Semirhages impersonation of Tuon that failed. Her Illusion just disappeared and even s…

Ok, we finally arrive at the closure of the series, and the Dark One has always acted indirectly, never showing itself (for good reasons since it is NOT in this world). But it's Tarmon Gaidon, the end, it's ITS battle. What will it be doing then? Do you think we'll "see" it take a part of it? Or it taking a part of it means the Dark One free and the battle lost? Will we finally get a picture of all its dark plans? Will it go head to head with the Light (Rand)? Anything else? Will it even be a part of A Memory of Light? I really wonder, because... I just can't picture the Dark One in battle per se. It is not of this world, it can dominate it throught its presen…

So I had a thought occur to me and haven't seen the subject broached on here. I had started to wonder if Moiraine would possibly take the Sun Throne in Cairhein (assuming she survives the last battle of course) now that her abilities to channel have been limited, her life's mission completed and having hooked up with Thom. She obviously has the strongest claim to the throne regardless of Elayne's living or dying, anyone that has read NS will recall her efforts to not be placed there. Her biggest issue with the matter was not being diverted from her search for the young Dragon. Given the serious reduction in her abilities, she even offered to throw away her new ang…

What do you feel about the idea of the Dark One? Is he omnipresent or has a more solid form? (And all of the other questions like this.) The only screentime The DO's had is speaking to the forsaken. In that scene, if I remember correctly, only the forsaken who he spoke to could hear him (like speaking inside their head and not at all real existing sound/voice.) I know what I don't want the Dark One to be, and it is a big monster (or some kind of a huge black god, or something in that vein). If he's not omnipresent, I would like him to be a more human-kind of something. But as in theory, it would be cool if he's like the creator; not really existing in the pat…

Here is where you may discuss your thoughts on Brandon's revelation that he chose to include a gay character in TofM. This thread will be heavily moderated in terms of phrasing of thoughts--no position is wrong, but think before you speak. Antagonistic comments such as what filled the 'who is it' thread will not be tolerated. Be honest of course, but be thoughtful and considerate in phrasing that honesty.

what are everyone's favorite quotes from the series and by who? One of mine is by Lan in I'm pretty sure "Winter's Heart." "You can never know everything, and part of what you do know will always be wrong. Perhaps even the most important part. A portion of wisdom lies in knowing this. A portion of courage lies in going on anyway." -Lan It could be applied to real life as well as the series so it really hit hard when I read it

ok so all along the series where moraine is at least she is always saying that she will take any one of the boys if the dark one gains control and she will take them out. so i am thinkign that maybee the reason that she had to be at the last battle to take out rand due to the dark one taking him over im probally wrong but maybee yah never know just a random thought

How's rand goin to seal the bore? LTT used saidin last time and it led to you know what. If the women joined him in his plan it would have led to even greater disaster. There is no Choedan kal anymore. so how is he going to seal it this time? I can't see any other way than using the power and if the power is used it runs the chance of being tainted like last time.

Who's your favourite baddie? In this poll I think I've listed all the major bad guys in the books, though I could have missed one or two. Asmodean has been deliberately excluded as he betrayed the Shadow. All of the other Forsaken have been included, but I'm not including the gholam, who are constructs. You shouldn't pick a favourite baddie because they've been dumb; pick them either because one of their attributes appeals to your darker nature, or because you admire something clever they've done in the cause of evil, whether now or in the AoL. Personally, I'm picking Rahvin, as he seems to be the only male Forsaken to have had much sexual fun, when he was mind-co…

I´m rereading the series and one thing I´ve been wondering about is where Egwene´s passion for the Tower and all thing Aes Sedai comes from? I know it´s pointed out that she has this thirst for knowledge and I can buy that that´s a motivator to a certain degree. She is strong in the Power and everyone says that she will be a great Aes Sedai if she just studies. But she is adamant to reunite the Tower, she wants to keep the Oaths (even though she knows what it does to the Aes Sedai) and she doesn´t seem to care for her friends, she just views them as tools to further her agenda, to make the tower whole. One early example of her attitude is when she told Nyn to back down i…

Someone in this Forum has a quote in their profile from RJ stating something along the lines that if the answer we received was too easy, consider the fact that we asked the wrong question. We have all seen questions posed (in the past and recently) to Team Jordan that cover a wide range of topics and story lines within the books. Some of these questions are straightforward and some are quite clever. I wanted to start this topic for some out of the box thinking so that maybe we can come up with questions that have not been posed before so that the folks who speak with Brandon could potentially ask him. That being said I will kick things off! RJ was once asked if Fain…

On the topic of Ages, some random guesses First Age: The Age of Discovery Humanity starts with nothing, but gradually rediscovers farming, forging and rudimentary technology. Eventually, the rise of science leads to the development of a very complex society with aircraft, electronics, nuclear weapons etc (our own time). As humanity progresses, eventually scientists discover the driving force behind physics-the One Power. Tamyrlin, the first channeler, and many others begin research into this incredible new source of abilities. Yet all things can be used for destruction as well as creation, and the horror of Power-based war leads to a much stronger emphas…

I don't think that any of us fans really have the correct answer to this question. I'm actually only interested in your opinions (we all know about opinions, right?). Every tale has a story. What is the story in the WOT series? Good versus evil? The adventures of three taveren (sp?)? Watch out for the manipulating Aes Sedai!!! A snapshot of one brief moment of the turning of the Wheel? What clothes should never be worn to the Last Battle? Anyway, what do you think the story is all about? ENJOY, Love, Gramps

So, I´ve been reading WoT for 13 years and when I read the books the first time I was hooked. My bf (was still reading when I met him) thought I was too obsessed cause I wanted to discuss theories with him, even though he didn´t have a clue what I was talking about. Later he did actually read up until book 5. I´ve had a break but now I´m doing a reread again and I´m at tFoH when Nynaeve and Elayne met Ronde Macura and had their first lovely sip of forkroot tea. I was so engrossed in that chapter that I forgot to do the dishes, lol. Afterwards I was so bubbly that I had to retell the whole scene for him. He had to comment on what REALLY happened. It wasn´t forkroot t…

Will Gawyn Kill Egwene? There have been a number of prophecies referring to an upcoming spart between Gawyn and Egwene. This really couldn't be more clear. Gawyn will either submit to Egwene, or kill her. Note, too, that this viewing is unique. "The things she saw were very rarely as clear in meaning as those two, and she had never before seen that fluttering back and forth, as though not even the viewing could tell which would be the true future."[tSR; 47, The Truth of a Viewing] Egwene tries to force Gawyn to do something. Notice the similarity to Min's viewing--two future, equally possible--in fact so much so that in both cases the future is h…

First, the reason Shaidar Haran's presence can prevent the Forsaken from even sensing the OP is that he is a living embodiment of the DO. Being that Lews Therin cries "It's Him. Better to have died than reached out to Him" when Rand uses the TP I think that the TP is actually a person reaching out physically to the DO not just using a power source that emanates from him. Anyway, the reason that I think this is important is because SH can make the Forsaken unable to even sense the OP and the only thing that they all have in common is that they are the only one's who have used the TP. I'm afraid that this will be the terrible consequence of Rand's TP use that Brandon wa…

I was thinking about the Aelfinn/Eelfinn chapter icon, and thought suddenly to look and find out if I could find a comprehensive list of all the icons from the entire series as well as what book they first appeared in. http://www.dragonmount.com/Books/chapter_icons.php http://wot.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Chapter_art http://www.krondor.net/RJ/Maps%20and%20Icons/Chapter%20Icons.aspx http://www.steelypips.org/wotfaq/2_nondark/2.7_generalities/2.7.5_iconography.html NONE of those have any 'first seen in x book' next to their descriptions. I was just wondering, because I know we have some hardcore mofos on this board, and if there is something to be catalogued an…

I've read up through A CROWN OF SWORDS, but haven't read anything past that. I was thinking about picking up the series again at THE GATHERING STORM. Does that sound like a good idea? Should I just read chapter summaries to get caught up? Where can I find some decent thorough summaries?

At the very end of KOD Pevara and Tarna have an audience with Taim and his Ashaman. Taim agrees to let them bond his men as Warders. He then says "Let the Lord Of Chaos Rule" the room erupts in laughter that sends chills through Pevara. Nothing came if this in TGS and then in TOM Pevara and Javindra are walking and talking with Taim discussing that they want to bond full ashaman. Taim refuses and P and J go on their own. I'm not a genius but I think that even I could determine that Taim is evil and that The Lord of Chaos is The Dark One. Even if you had never heard that term before I don't think that it's that big of a leap and put two and two together and figure…

I've actually been embarrassed for the longest time to ask anyone about this and admit that I missed something that seemed to be 'intuitively obvious.' I guess today I'm just feeling brave, lol. In Chapter 51 of FOH (''News Comes to Cairhien'') Mat, Moiraine, Rand and others are gathered in The Dragon's tent. Moiraine Sedai looks at Mat and says, ''You are very brave, Mat, it seems.'' And the silence that followed stiffened his face. Huh??? Why such a silence? Why did his face stiffen? What was Moiraine implying? As an insult? Backhanded compliment? Is Mat offended? If so, WHY? This book came out around 94/95 and I've felt ever since that I definitely …

I have this Forum bookmarked on my iPhone since I do a lot of surfing from my mobile device. Anyways it's been the Mobile version for the longest time then yesterday i think it's switched to the actual online version one would see from a PC. Did something happen on Dragonmounts end because surfing through the threads is a lot tougher now.

This is just something I have been mulling over for like, 10 books, but never had a chance to ask in a forum because I didn't belong to one. Has anyone ever seen discussed The Dragons name? Lews Therin. Like, maybe, lose therein. Ala, no matter what you will lose?

Hi folks, I've got a scoop for you! I had a secret PM conversation with BS and he seemed to be in giving mood and let slip quite a few things. 1. Fain might survive the LB. 2. Demandred might be hiding in Two Rivers. 3. We might see some kind of weird merging of Elayne, Min and Aviendha into one person. There is an early hint of that in Min's full name. Elmindreda is an amalgamation of El from Elayne, min from Min and da from Aviendha. Details to follow....

So, what is your favorite book of the series, and why? Personally, my favorite is Fires of Heaven. So many plot huge events happen in this book, it's incredible. 1. Moiraine "dies" 2. The Aiel cross the Dragonwall and the Shaido go loose into Randland 3. Mat manifests his memories from the Finn, and founds the Band 4. Birgitte is ripped from TAR 5. Morgase leaves Caemlyn 6. Nyn captures Moggy 7. Rand and Aviendha 8. Asmo is killed 9. Salidar begins to form 10. Lews Therin begins sneaking into Rand's thoughts 11. Rand forms the list of women that begins to harden his soul There are probably more, but those were the ones that popped into my head. M…

I'm doing a re-read, and I've just noticed, Fain knew that the one the Dark One was seeking was either Mat, Perrin or Rand. "Fain knew for certainty that the one he sought was on of three in Emond's Field." What I'm wondering, is why the Trollocs bothered attacking the other Two Rivers boy's homes, why not just Perrin, Mat and Rand's? That would have been a lot easier, if you ask me.
