I have some 13x13 related questions for the learned folk of Dragonmount. I can never seem to find what I am looking for in the Team Jordan Q&As or the many RJ interviews: Has the process for 13x13ing channelers to serve the shadow been described? Is there a 13x13 option for followers of the Light? Could Rand's new ability to intimidate/break darkfriends (like the lord and lady in Marador) be something along the lines of a Light version of 13x13?

Well after reading most of the debates on the website on who Taim is I have come up with the theory that Taim is only Taim but he is under Moridin's control due to the use of a broken cour'souvra or mind trap. In my mind it explains the mannerisms (hand held behind back, half smile etc.), the colors, and the "so-called" Aiel statement. The mind trap has been around since aCoS and has yet to be used. After Taim escaped he was taken to SG and forcibly mind-trapped. It is a leap, granted, but in my mind it makes the more sense then someone being locked in a stasis box or a new Chosen being raised. The problem I'm having is that we have no idea how the owner of the mind t…

  4. Right, so long story short, I was reading over the latest version of the FAQ, and I came across a few interesting entries. Way back earlier in the series, there's a part where Moiraine mentions that the Karaethon Cycle is tricky, because with the wording of some of the prophecies we really don't know which ones Rand might have already fulfilled, and what he should do to fulfill some...etc. She gives as an example: "He will slay his people with the sword of peace and break them with the leaf" RIGHT, so the FAQ states that this has pretty much been fulfilled where Rand reveals to the Aiel that they used to be sworn to follow the Way of the Leaf. What I'd like to argu…

Ok, I couldn't think of a good title and this may be better asked in the ask a simple question thread, but I was thinking of Robert Jordan's statement that in previous turnings of the Wheel the Champion of the Light has gone over to the Shadow, and when this happened the result was a draw. I'm trying to get my feeble brain around that. If the Light loses their Champion, how do they get away with a draw? Please humour (and enlighten) me.

In Eye of the World we learn many new things about the series. Among these is a statement about channeling. First, we learn that (at least with women), you develop a link with the first person you channel on. This is stated by Moiraine when talking to Nyn. Now, we believe that the first time Rand channels on someone is when he channels into Bela to restore her energy (Egwene was riding her). We don't know how this link may effect a man, let a lone a Ta'veren. But is it possible that this link is helping to keep Bela alive so long, due to some Ta'veren luck juju? Inb4Bela=creator

I was thinking, I haven't seen very much WoT artwork, but I'm sure there must be. Throw in any portraits, landscapes, diagrams and anything else you've found or done yourself. I want to see how everyone else has interpreted Randland.

I'm sure this has been asked in the past, but I couldn't find a thread for it. So I just figured I'd start one. Who from the third age is going to be bound to the Horn? I read somewhere that RJ confirmed that Rand was going to be, but I don't really see that happening. LTT wasn't tied to the horn, so why would Rand? I guess if I had to choose only one I would have to go with Mat since he blew the horn back in TGH. Perrin would of course be an easy guess with him being ta'veren. So I guess my questions will all three of them be bound? Or none of them? Or other then our three favorite village boys, will anyone else you isn't ta'veren?

One of my pet theories is that people's reactions to certain characters is, in significant part, a function of those people's ages and gender. I thought it might be interesting to see how the posters here break down. Me: 43 YO Male. Old, for a forum like this, I would guess. But that's what happens when a series takes more than 2 decades to complete!

Do you think he is going to be amazed that some one has found the way to make a power wrought weapon or will he not be suprised at all and just be all like why Perrin i was wondering when you were going to get around to making that hammer after all you were always going on you were a blacksmith. hahaahah i also saw a quote of perrins from the dragon reborn from when he helped out the blacksmith talking about quenching barrles and what was used for what and how certain types were used for swords but he had never had helped in the makign of any of that. prob not a bit of foreshowding…

I wonder if other people felt the same way about books 7-10 as I did. I've been a long time reader, started reading back when there were only 2 books available and thought we would be done in six. I know there was a lot of complaining about books 7-10 at the time of their publication. There wasn't a whole lot of arcs completed, usually just one or two major plot movements forward. At the time it was frustrating because we knew we had another two years to wait to hear the rest. I find now in re-reads that they are much more enjoyable as a continuous story. I'm curious for the late readers, what their take was on the books from 6 or 7 to 10. Were they as enjo…

In LoC, page 948 (American paperback), when Perrin is coming to rescue Rand, Loial says that he thinks that there are more than six Aes Sedai guarding Rand. One of the books he talk about to support this idea is called "A Study of Men, Women and the One Power among Humans" (emphasis mine). Now, there are two ways the phrase "among humans" can be taken, the boring way and the interesting way. The boring way is that it could also refer to the One Power simply as the force that powers the Wheel. The other thing it could mean is that there is also the OP among other species, presumably Ogier, since an Ogier wrote the book. If that's true, it could mean that there could be Ogi…

Min POV ToM Chapter 13 - For What Has Been Wrought Min runs through the Dragonwall Gate on the east side of the Stone with a bunch of Aiel. Rand is there, wearing an old brown cloak over his fine black trousers. The sunlight distorts around him and she has new viewings: An open cavern, gaping like a mouth. Bloodstained rocks. Two dead men on the ground, surrounded by ranks and ranks of Trollocs. A pipe with smoke curling from it. So who are the dead men? Here are some options: Rand, Mat, Gawyn, Galad, Perrin, Lan, Thom, Logain, Narishma..... Min is viewing Rand at the time, her viewings always relate to the person she sees. However, Rand is a…

I thought it would be fun to have a little "who would you chose" thread. Since I havent seen Fish around lately (damn, I miss the guy, come back!) I thought, eh, ill create one myself. This is not "who is your favorite" although favorites of course will make a big impact on the decision. It is basically, the LB is here. Be you of the Shadow or Light, you, for some reason, have access to all the Forsaken and are allowed to choose 3 of them, however you like, to be under your command. They cant betray you, (lets say...bound by a binder) so they would be totally loyal. A few points, to make it different. 1. You can choose any of the Forsaken, and choose what f…

This is me thinking about the Ter'Angreal type called a Well. "A Well is a ter'angreal that is able to store the One Power so that a channeler can use it as a separate source. " http://wot.wikia.com/wiki/Well Basicly a Well let someone store part of the One Power inside it in some metaphysical aspect. They can be used while in a place where access to the One Power is limited or prevented. They let someone channel within the effect of the Guardian Ter'angreal in Far Madding, within a Stedding and, possibly, while shielded (even though there is no example of that happening as far as I know, the Wells do work in other cases where connection to the One Power is preve…

In the Path of Daggers, there is a chapter with Galina Casban's POV. In the chapter, she is bound to the Shaido Wise Ones by use of an oath rod. Galina expresses extreme shock at the existence of a second Oath Rod, outside of the one inside the Tower. She also takes note of the number on the bottom of the Shaido Rod, 111. The one in the Tower is marked with the number three. In this chapter, two things come to mind. First, that the Black Ajah does not use an Oath Rod to take their oaths as a Darkfriend. I may have missed something on here, but I heavily doubt that the Black Ajah would risk using the Tower's Oath Rod to take their oaths. Second, there is a large chance of…

  24. Maybe this belong more in the "Short question, short answer" thread, but, well. I like to think that this can lead to at least a few posts of discussion. :D When LTT seal off the Dark One in Age of Legends, they touch him with the power to push him in, and when touching him with Saidin it become tainted. Now, Is this the error that must be fixed this time around? Because, if he have the women helping him this time, which he hope to have, and he use both the powers in a link, will that not make all channelers go mad? Will that not taint both Saidin and Saidar?

  25. Just curious if anyone has already talked about how Moiraine 'died' by fighting Lanfear and toppling into the door frame was almost exactly like Gandalf fighting the Balrog and toppling into the dark abyss. And then! Both of them appear 'changed' and apparently more powerful than before (sort of in Moiraine's case) Anyway, I guess RJ 'borrowed' that a bit, but I never noticed it until someone started mentioning something about how the two were alike. Thoughts?

**Hi, this is my first post on Dragonmount so I thought I might start by saying hello! These books have probably been the most consistent thing in my life other than my family. I have read and re-read them for almost half of my life, ~11 years of reading and atleast 8 re-reads of books 1-4. I remember getting on to this website when it was probably only a year old and I remember getting on here to see when the next book(TGS) was coming out, and crying when I heard the news. Anyway, I wanted to say hi and even though this is my first post, I have been coming here for info, news and pleasure reading on the WoT for a long time. So thanks to the founders and members here…

  27. As we read at the ending of ToM (and leading up to it), Lan and his Malkieri soldiers have arrived in the north to fight the trolloc invasion. It's also an almost certain defeat as they are so greatly outnumbered. Does anyone see any connections between what could happen and what happened in real life in the Battle of Thermopylae? This was the battle the movie 300 was based off when 300 or so Spartans and their few allies were outnumbered and defeated as they managed to hold off the Persians for a longer amount of time then they should've. Possibly this is what will happen with Lan? They will hold off the trollocs for a long enough time for the armies fighting for the lig…
