Androl for all we know IS a main chracter in this book dealing with the Black Tower....Im starting to think that Androl is a Jain Farstrider in hiding too..we have underestimated Androl and for those who have paid close attention to Androl, he is an adventurer like Jain...so...,my question is...should some Heroes still be alive in this time era...who is Androl?...if Jain Farstrider is alive, im pretty sure Androl represents someone... If anyone else has noticed...Androl tries to seem as the simple farmer that doesnt know much about the outside world...but when he is introduced to us, he talks about how to shoot from horseback and a noble looks at him questiongly, and …

I lurk here mostly, so I may be covering something that has already been done... I have been reading the series since the first book, and absolutely love it - to the point where almost any other fantasy book just seems lame. Except for Stephen Donaldson, but thats another subject. Anyway, I read fast because I read a lot, and each WoT book usually takes me a few days to read. Anyway, I moved from the UK to the USA recently, and learned to drive (I am 37) and found I had long journeys in the car often over 6 hours, so thought I would try listening to the audio books as something to do. I am amazed by how much I seem to miss when I read as opposed to when I listen.…

With the Verin reveal at the end of tGS and increasing speculation that there's some 13X13'ing happening at the Black Tower, I've been trying to think of exactly what it means to become a Darkfriend by this method. We know from Verin's activities that it's possible to be a Darkfriend that can channel but actively work against the DO at least to an extent. So... what happens when someone gets 13x13'd as opposed to becoming a Darkfriend willingly? Is there some sort of Compulsion involved in which the victim desires to work for the DO actively, or is it merely that the requisite oaths are forced on them, but they'd be subsequently reluctant? The description of wha…

There has been much speculation as to DFs among the Aiel in past threads. As of TOM, can anyone be ruled out? Since Rhurac looked at and spoke directly to Rand, I think we can rule him out but what about others? I guess there could still be some among the other clan chiefs but I'm trying to remember, which WOs where present when Rand cleansed the Stone of high ranking DFs? Sorilea? Am I safe to assume those who met Egwene at her TAR meeting can be ruled out? Can any among Perrin's party be ruled out? Bain and Chiad? Thanks

I find Slayer’s character confusing. I understand that Rand’s uncle (Lord Luc) and Lan’s cousin (Isam) merged to form him, and I know we don’t really know how or why or anything like that . . . I just can’t make sense of some of the things that he does and some of the appearances he makes. Looking at other posts, I know that I missed some important events (such as an apparently epic and unfinished showdown between Slayer and Perrin), since I have yet to read ToM. Here’s a good example of what I mean: Winter’s Heart 10 In “A Plan Succeeds,” Slayer shows up in TAR and eavesdrops while Egwene, Elayne, and Nynaeve meet. They discuss the Kinswomen and what to do about …

In Crossroads of twilight, chapter 20 Egwene has a dream where "Egwene walks a ledge on a cliff. The ledge collapses leaving her hanging by her fingertips. A Seanchan woman climbs down the cliff and offers to help." (taken from wot encyclopaedia). I dont remember this happening. Has it and i just dont remember? Or does anyone have any idea what this is referring to? Thanks

Anyone find possible WOT fans via their names? Anyone name their pets or kids after WOT characters, places, or events? Skipping over most examples of the fairly normal/common (Mat, Thom, Elayne)...how about less common? I know one of the podcasters named his cat Lanfear.

Does anyone else feel moiraine has super powers? I just started a full reread and she does some mighty amazing things with her staff as a focal point in the first book (angreal aside). I don't know whether to think she's just really badass or jobert Jordan hadn't entirely thought out the one power before he started writing

There is a site somewhere which indexes all of the novels and you can type say Bors and get all of the references to that word in the books. Does anyone know what the name of that site is? I need the site but I forgot what its name was.

Ok, so presuming the Dark Prophecy was real, not a bit of hocus pocus written by someone with a little knowledge and a bit of wit [as Verin says], there here is something interesting. Now if this is a foretelling--which is very much what it sounds like (as opposed to say, a dream) then it should be immutable. And within the sentence 'who shall serve her and die, yet serve still' there is the implicit expectation that someone will do that--it is not 'will someone serve her and die, yet serve still', but 'who' shall do so. There will be someone we just don't know who. Yet there was no one. No one served her, no one died, and no one continued to serve her. So, t…

In my first re-read of the series (book 5 so far), I came across what I thought was an interesting tidbit following Rand vs. Asmodean's battle in Rhuidean. 1) The both travel to just outside the city, they don't travel in to it. The Shadow Rising (Book 4) p971. Lanfear said to Rand and Asmodean, "You have made a thorough job of it. Can you feel the traces? This place was shielded in some way. You did not leave enough for me to say how." 2) Rhuidean had a shield over it, a near dome around the entire city. p 976. a black metal shaft like a spear standing upright, improbably balanced on the pile. 3) A black metal shaft in a square filled with Angreal.…

Right after Moraine was rescued from the Finn's, she mentions that the angreal was one of her requests. Since she wasn't severed that means that one of her requests was to break the bond between her and Lan. So my question is, what was her last request?

in TSR CH21 Rand mentioned that he left Callandor in Tear to fulfill this prophecy It's commonly assumed that it was fully fulfilled by Narishma drawing Callandor later to bring it to Rand (tPoD, Ch 21). This has always bothered me greatly. First of all, Rand did it on purpose trying to force the fulfillment of the prophecy (which is a bad idea) and he rather smugly boasts about it (which is a bad sign too). And I certainly find the fulfillment of the prophecy by Narishma fetching Callandor for Rand supremely unsatisfying. I suspect this is a wrong interpretation and something completely different might be involved. I have two loony theories to offer. 1. Nari…

There's a theory that I believe has a certain degree of consensus that Rand's wound parallels to some degree how he will seal the Dark One's prison. With this in mind, there's a quite interesting passage I've just run across re-reading ToM, describing his wound in a way I don't think has ever been stated before: page 223, UK Hardback The emphasis is my own, obviously. Now, I'm not entirely sure how to interpret this, I certainly haven't devised much of a theory with respect to the application of this if it is a foreshadowing. The only current theory I see it applying to is the vague idea that the ta'veren ability will play a greater role in defeating the DO th…

Ok so I posted this on Twitter, and thought I'd bring it up here. I've been thinking about the Black Ajah Hunters and Alviarin. I'm wondering if there wasn't supposed to be a plotline around tGS in which the Shadow realised there was a significant threat to the Black Ajah--maybe through the Prophecies of the Shadow--Shaidar Haren buys Alviarin's line pretty quickly, after all, almost as if he were expecting such a threat. So, the Shadow forewarned, but focusses by mistake upon the BA Hunters, allowing Verin to calmly swoop in delivering mild mannered, slightly vague death upon the Black Ajah. It seems what the four books prior were leading to, when one takes into …

When I read the end of The Gathering Storm (Chapter 50: Veins of Gold), I was severely disappointed when Rand, out of the blue, suddenly destroys the Choedan Kal (CK)!!! I mean things were going along fine, he was finally melding with Lews Therin, his attitude was adjusting, and he was regaining his memories. But destroying the CK? Why? What purpose could that possibly serve? There was no back story leading up to that point that could possibly have linked the CK with helping Rand with his transformation. It was utterly pointless (like the prologue). Did Jordan specify the CK must be destroyed before the end, or was it literary license on the part of Mr. Sanderson? Eve…

The Mysteries of Cyndane Is Cyndane Lanfear? The short answer is, yes. There was some confusion over this based around Demandred’s comment that the Forsaken no longer thought Cyndane to be Lanfear based on Graendal’s assertion that Cyndane was weaker than Lanfear had been. However the similarities between Cyndane and Lanfear essentially prove that to be wrong, from the way she strives for height to the way she refers to Rand as Lews Therin and speaks so knowledgeably of the Age of Legends. The most telling piece of evidence, however, comes at the end of Winter’s Heart. The combination of these quote make it certain that Cyndane and Lanfear were t…

This post assumes a few things: 1. That a great many readers dislike Egwene (indisputable); 2. That Egwene is one of the good guys (seems pretty likely); 3. That readers are generally supposed to like, sympathize with and identify with good guys (usually true, even when the good guys are morally ambiguous); 4. That Jordan and Sanderson were trying to write an admirable character in Egwene (not so sure, I think she may have been written like she was intentionally) So how can Sanderson fix Egwene? I could list a thousand ways I would like to see Egwene brought down, but that's not the purpose of this thread. I don't think it is NECESSARY for Egwene t…

Hello all I've been lurking these discussion boards on and off for awhile. I'm not sure if theoretical short stories are allowed.? This writing basically proves why Egwene and many others like her cannot be collared. Also idea's on how gates can be used as weapons. Thanks to Grozzo and Torn Shadow for taking the time to read and comment, I have made the corrections you have suggested, although I have not reread the account yet. Edits appear in bold. The A'dam Kemessar kneeled with her eyes downward. She had no way of telling how much time she had spent waiting like this for her presentation. She was nervous and eager, by night fall if all we…

I know this is in a thread but since the conversion to this board I cant find it. In TOM Perrin has merc's asking to join his army. "Turne smelled unwashed and dirty, and above those scents was and odd staleness. Had the emotions gone numb?" Does Perrin have power converted channelers in his force? If so, how quickly could they destroy all that are with him?

Is there "official" confirmation that severing can only be completely healed by an opposite-sex channeler? The reason I ask is that, in re-reading Lord of Chaos, Moghedien tells Nynaeve that some healing weaves were stronger in men. Nyn doesn't believe her, of course... but she's been wrong a lot. If there's an official word on this, then that's that, but if not, maybe we've got this one all wrong. --Shannon

I have just started my full re-read and was shocked 1 page after the Prologue. There are two prophecies from unknown authors in the 4th age. I do not have my book with me, so I cannot provide a full quote but the first quote was from a book entitled Aleth nin Taerin alta Camora, The Breaking of the world. The second was named Charal Drianann te Calamon, The Cycle of the Dragon. Fist off are there other prophecies from the 4th age? It seems like all the other prophecies have been from the past (Before/during the breaking, or from the AOL). Do we have any clue as to what language they were written in, or by who? To me it looks like Ogre but I am not sure. We k…

Hey everyone I'm new here so if this has been discussed already I apologise, but what is to stop a bunch of darkfriend channelers (possibly 13x13'd ) from banding together and creating a NEW giant pool of saidin. I've just started another re-read and a couple of times it's mentioned that the amount of power there was enough to re-seal the bore . . . or tear it open completely. So my question is - Why haven't they? Any thoughts would be great thanks guys.

Perhaps I missed it, but I haven't seen much discussion about this: The Dark One has male channelers on his side, aiding the Trolloc armies. Deepe says there are at least six, so they can't be the Forsaken; the only remaining male forsaken are Demandred and Moridin. Deepe believes they're not Asha'man either. I think he's right on that count; the Asha'man are either accounted for or they are trapped by a Dreamspike with Mazrim Taim at the Black Tower. We've been speculating what the [blank] in the blight is. We've been trying to figure out the meaning of the encounter with red-veiled Aiel - who are men - in the Epilogue. And there has been some discussion ab…

Can anyone clear up for me what was going on with the aes sedai apprentices with Perrin's wise ones, and masema? They all seemed to agree that perrin should kill masema as he was a rabid dog. But then Perrin finds out that some of them are meeting masema behind his back. So is Berelaine's advisor, Annoura. What was going on? Were they trying to kill masema, or trick him into making it obviously dangerous he was so perrin would HAVE to kill him? Or were they actually betraying perrin and rand? Also, why was suroth making an alliance with him? Some darkfriend plot? Surely she had no need to, the Ever Victorious Army had no need to fear rabble, even one as big as masema'…
