Just wanted to share a comic I drew of this scene, since I figured not many people will see it in the showcase. There is a larger version here - http://fav.me/d3a4dcm

Why have the borderland monarchs, over the last 3,000 years only managed what i would call mediocre defenses against the blight. Now granted Maradon was fairly well secured, however you would think that they would have built up the defenses even more. It is stated that the only entrance into Saldea from the blight has to go through their lower camp, why not have built a "great wall" across that gap. Saldea in my mind had the best defenses in the borderlands, but still not sufficient. Now let us speak of the others. Why is Tarwin's Gap, noted by many characters as a major staging point for trolocs coming out of the blight, not reinforced in similar ways that maradon was. …

So if I am not wrong, between the time Lanfear and the others drilled the bore and LTT and the hundred companions sealed it up, nothing was "comtaining" the dark one, and he did not destroy the world. So my question is what is the big deal if he was not able to destroy the pattern before LTT sealed him why do people think breaking the seals is the end all. The bore was open for years during the war of the shadow. And i think most people know that there is a time gap between the drilling and the sealing

I was waiting for the train and reading ToM again and right next to me there is a guy who was also reading ToM. And he noticed my book and we started talking and we got on the same train and kept talking about WoT until I reached my station. I find it so strange and yet so cool that you can spark a whole conversation with someone just because of one book/series. I was wondering if anyone else has cool stories like that to share?

Nynaeve learns to heal madness, but when she goes to heal it in Rand, the points of darkness entering his brain are surrounded by light. Okay, no where did THAT come from? Let's leap to the end of TGS...Rand on a mountain, destroying the Choeden Kal, and coming to the realization that he and LLT were not two men and never had been. And now, he by all reports is completely sane, with the memories of both. All well and good, but the madness is still there, in his brain, and this light is protecting him from it? Where did this come from, and why did it happen the moment he destroyed the Choeden Kal? When Rand was absorbing all this energy, did he inadvertently do th…

I noticed a small line in my re-read of The Great Hunt that I'd never noticed before. As Rand and his small party emerge from the Portal Stone into the mainland ahead of the Darkfriends who had stolen the Horn of Valere, Selene (Lanfear) says something about all the Darkfriends and asks, quite curiously, if Rand knows if a way to kill them all. She asks in a way that suggests a weave that only destroys Darkfriends and we know from Rand's actions in the Stone of Tear that such weaves are possible. Brian Sanderson noticed on his re-read of the Eye of the World that Lews Therin Travels to a spot where he is unable to sense people and then he is consumed by the power, giving …

  8. The thing that I simply cannot get past with Taim is the aura we saw in Winters Heart. Light seemed to become dimmer when he was near, its in the prologue from Elaynes PoV. It was the same kind of aura we saw around Rand in TGS. Now, it seems clear that the aura was not directly tied to True Power usage, because in Tams encounter with Rand in TGS, Tam saw the dark aura around Rand and throughout the entire scene Rands PoV didnt mention any sort of True Power channeling at all, it was all saidin. The black aura is there because a Ta'veren became dark. In Rands case, using the True Power affected his mentality, but it is the Pattern-affecting mentality being dark t…

So, to begin, if any of my assumptions are wrong, please let me know. Now, to really begin.... We know that the Moiraine/Lan Bond snapped because Moiraine left the plane of existence Lan was on and her path back was destroyed. The fact that there were other paths back (the other door and the Tower of Ghenji) did not matter. Moiraine did not die while in Finnland, but the bond still snapped. We also know that the World of Dreams (T'A'R) is another plane as well, a world that connects to all worlds, but is outside them all too. Based on those two facts, my question is if Rand or Egwene Traveled into the World of Dreams after having bonded/been bonded, would…

The death of Lanfear is never clearly explained. We know that she died and her soul was transmigrated into Cyndane but what exactly happened? The Finns told Moiraine that they killed Lanfear but I'm quite sure they were lying. A man (surely Moridin) showed up to look for her. If the Finns really killed her there was no need for Moridin to come looking for her. The DO could have snatched her soul once she died. So she must have been alive when he retrieved her, but what could have happened afterward? I don't think Moridin would kill her himself after going to all the trouble of getting her back. I've seen a theory by Terez somewhere that Lanfear may have died on the wa…

just been re-reading the series and in book nine page 447 in Far Madding possibly or maybe someone posing as him "Suddenly a wave of dizziness hit him,a murky face filling his vision for a instant, and he staggered against a passerby.Taller than Rand himself in bright green livery, the yellow-haired man shifted the large basket he was carrying and fended Rand off gently.A long puckered scar ran down the side off his sun-dark face.Bowing his head,he murmured an apology and hurried on." any thoughts?

I wasn't able to find any quotes by RJ/BS about this so I figured I'd ask on here. Is it known/theorized what Ishamael did here? Did he place a Finder on Rand? Additionally, is this related to what Lanfear does to Rand later in the series? I think it's when she leaves a hickey/love bite on his shoulder in TAR.(Or maybe she does something else at some other time, I do remember her marking him as hers...)

Hello there I read all the WoT books over the past ~5 years. Now I'm starting again and a few things don't make sense. If you could answer I'd appreciate it :) 1. Why is Lan so lucky? In the end of NS Moraine talks about some of the lucky men being channelers but they don't really talk about Lan. 2. In the intro of Eye of the World, how come Ishamael isn't sealed away? This scene happens pretty soon after LTT sealed all the forsaken, doesn't it? Thanks ~

I finally finished the book. So I'm coming back to the forums for the first time since it's been out. I don't know if this has been discussed, but when I read the scene when the maidens showed Perrin the blight looking ground I had an idea of what happened to cause it. Is it possible that the Trollocs we've seen attack out of nowhere are actually not coming from Portal stones? We of course know that shadowspawn are being moved using the Ways and Portal Stones; however, I think this is something different. Tylee was attacked by Shadowspawn in The Gathering Storm. At the time we had no idea where they came from. I believe they were hanging out in the blight, gath…

Do you guys/gals think that the copy foxhead medallion that Mat plans to give to Tuon will play some role in 'freeing' the damane? We know that when wearing the copied version, one can't channel; I can't help but feel that this will be significant somehow, in regards to the seanchan and the entire sul'dam:damane relationship.

I was just rereading book 4, and when people started saying 'You don't want to mess in Women's Circle business,' and stuff like that, it got me thinking. What exactly are the powers of the Women's Circle, the Wisdom, the Village Council and the Mayor. I haven't really seen Bran do anything, except scold Mat a lot, and the Women's Circle's business seems to cover just about everything. What exactly are the divisions of power?

Can the Seanchan prophesies be right? Let's look at the facts: Luthair comes to Seanchan with the prophesies Crystal throne does not exist yet It is mentioned in the prophesies though Ishamael has great influence in the Western Continent (where he knows all the LB action will happen at the end of the age), but not Seanchan (even Trolloc wars did not touch them much) ...and most importantly - Avi heard of the "kneeling to the Crystal Throne" in the columns, so we know it gets fulfilled What are your thoughts? Could Luthair have actually brought the last unaltered version of the prophesies before Ishamael tinkered with them on the main continent?

Ok, So I am reading through the series again. Im close to the end of the Dragon Reborn. Perrin, Moiraine, Warder, Ogier, and Faile are leaving Illian and being chased by Dark Hounds. Perrin takes out one with a bow and then all the sudden they get close and Moiraine does something with the one power. She like sends a wave of Fire towards the hounds. The air caught on fire. Perrin eventually goes, what the heck was that man? Moiraine replies, "Something not used in nearly two-thousand years, something I might be stilled just for knowing." So my question is, "Does this come up later in the series. Do we know what it is?" Please no spoilers…

im new to this site, so if this topic has already been discussed my apologies. Does anyone think that maybe Olver is Gaidal Cain reborn? My reasons are: Olver is not the best looking kid around, and hes quite reckless. Gaidal can be born older or younger than Birgitte when they are reborn in past lives. Time moves differently in Tel'aran'rhiod. anyone have a different opinion? any welcome

Or does only skill increase, while strength remains the same? I had always assumed the latter, but this line from NS seems to suggest that channellers get stronger over time: "Both were stronger in the Power than she, unfortunately, though she would stand above them eventually, but the gap was only wide enough that she had to defer, not obey."

ok guys i dont want to be the harbinger of bad news.....but i have a feeling that Mat (my favorite character) will die trying to save Olver. I'm thinking that once the madness in Caemlyn settles down....some of the trollocs will slip past the walls to Mat's camp, slaying anyone within sight. Mat will arrive just a few seconds too late...a bloodbath ensues....and Mat Cauthon's luck runs out :(

Alright, a simple question. Who would you side with? Would you side with the Dragon? Prophesied to break the seals of the DO's prison ? Or the Amyrlin? On the side of caution not wanting to break the seals. Personally, its a no brainer for me. Rand 100%. No matter how well reasoned Egwene rationalizes her arguemets, the fact is, Rand has to break the seals. Multiple prophecies say this, so I would trust Rand 100% in this. I can however, see why some might choose the other side. Egwene wants to wait and plan. Fair enough, she has no idea what is going down. Also, Rand hasnt figured out his end game yet. Not only regarding the breaking of th…

I love Perrin. Something that has always concerned me though is the following: how does Perrin not get murdered when he charges into battle? I understand how being huge and using a big ax or hammer is handy for killing Trollocs, as they are horrible fighters but require a lot of damage to kill. However, I seem to remember him being just as on the front lines fighting the Shaido Aiel. Shouldn't an expert spear-man like an Aiel instantly kill a big unarmored fella with a smith's hammer (or even an ax)? Seems to me a solid swordsman (let alone a blademaster or Fade) would chop him to pieces too. He doesn't use armor or a shield, negating pretty much the only advantages …

I've had a hunt through the forums but could not find a thread on this topic, so here it is. I've just finished re-reading ToM and have noticed that there are an unnatural amount of references to Rands new coat. What I want to know is whether this is because there is something special about the coat, or is it simply that the coat is a symbol of Randhi's new mental state. I tried attributing the amount of references to the fact that we see Rand from so many POV's, hence he gets introduced alot through the book. However many of those POV's do not reference other characters clothing. So what do you guys think, is the coat special? or is the coat just a coat?

Egwene created a TAR version of Bela when she traveled to Salidar by imagining it and that Bela was fully functional. Yet, Perrin was unable to do so with Hopper after Hopper was killed for good by Isam. Why not? What exactly is the difference and what exactly did Egwene create? I realize of course that at the time the real Bela was alive. Did Egwene just pull her into TAR (assuming that Bela was asleep at the time)? if not, what happened?

http://www.dragonmount.com/forums/topic/47394-up-there/page__view__findpost__p__1749449 The post above this one will help you understand who Bahbee is. Or, go back to earlier posts. Since the Wheel is responsible for everything that has been created, does that include balefire? Does the Wheel have a death wish? Or is balefire a product of the One Power that the Wheel has no control over? Remember that balefire permanently removes a thread from the Pattern so it is absent when the next revolution of the Wheel occurs. This is one of my favorite posts so far. Especially the paragraphs that are not italicized. I hope that you enjoy it. Love, Gramps

  29. Hi all! Just finished reading ToM, great book! I looked around at the forum and couldn't find a thread relating to this. Who was the woman Aviendha met on her way to Rhuidean? It seemed like she used some kind of magic, appearing and disappearing without trace, and the food cooked faster than normal in her precence. However, Aviendha did not feel Saidar. What did the woman do, did she wield the True Power? Not likely unless she was one of the forsaken, and she did not behave as one of those... I have a feeling it is a lose thread that we won't get the answer to.
