Hi all, This is my first time posting here. Something has been bugging me that I can't quite explain. Ishamael/Moridin (assuming that they are one and the same) regularly refers to the battle between the light and the dark in past ages with a personal knowledge of these battles. Clearly, Ishamael would remember the last battle in the AoL, but where could his memories of previous Tarmon Gaidons have come from? At first I assumed that he was lying about his knowledge, as it is mainly used as a tool to try to corrupt the three tav'eren in The Eye of The World. However, in one of the later books (Path of Daggers prologue, I think) he reflects on previous battles in …

Something just recently occurred to me about the geography in Randland. The maps at the beginning of the books always show "Up" as North, and the characters frequently refer to it as such, but here's the thing that gets me, and has been bugging me for several of my reads, I just haven't been able to put it into words before now. On Earth, as it is now, the Sun rises in the east, and sets in the west; so therefore, the more east you are, you get light before those more west of you. However, during several occasions in Randland, such as when Nynaeve et al head to Ebou Dar and Tanchico, they mention that, while it's noon/morning/whatever that has daylight where they ar…

Not sure if there is a thread already talking about this but anyway. I am pretty clueless about the letter Rand receives when he is talking to Siuan in the White Tower, does anyone know anything about it?

So I'm trying to puzzle out what Min's viewings all mean because I have yet to find a site that has all interperetions. I have few that have been really bugging me. First:Mat-Min saw this back in tEotW, "a laughing face" Second:Rand-Min saw this, once again in tEotW, "white-hot iron" Third:Elayne-Min saw this in tGH, "a red-hot iron and an axe. means trouble and in the future Any thoughts?

Hey guys, Been lurking the forums for a few months now, but have not posted many times. This is my first read through so please don't rip me a new one if this is a stupid question... :) Was just wondering about male Aes Sedai. Did the male Aes Sedai have a White Tower of their own, or did they share the tower with the females. Also, how many male Aes Sedai were there? As stated above, this is my first read through so there is a good chance i could have just overlooked this...Thanks for any reply

Sure Perrinaybara i was manage to make, but its not really the same SNAP to that name. It is said that many of the Forsaken's names were given to them by the common people, and then they embraced these new names and used them exclusively. A couple of examples are Ishamael (Betrayer of Hope) and Lanfear (Daughter of Night), but the OT translations of most of the rest of the names are not present that I can find. They are absent from the BWB. Here's the list I have been able to find or figure out, and any help or references would be appreciated. Ishamael - Betrayer of Hope Sammael - Destroyer of Hope Rahvin - ? Be'lal - Envious - or so says http://wot.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Old_Tongue_words but it seems this should be 2 words because of the apostrophe…

Does anyone know? How did the 'dragon' name start? When the characters first see the dragon banner and the tattoos on Rands arms, they describe them in a way that indicates they havent seen anything like them before....what's the connection, why was the dragon put on the banner I wonder, and wht was LT called the Dragon? Also, the Aiel are called the people of the dragon....they served Aes Sedai didnt they, so I wonder how they came to be known as the PoTD....there's also Dragon Mount and other sites....so the Dragon conquers under the symbol of aes sedai unity (ying/yang)....male/female aes sedai unity.....hmmmmmm??

So, I think that the second Dream Spike is being used to cut off the Black Tower so that the men inside can all be forcibly turned to the Shadow. Late in the book - in the chapter Something Wrong - there is a discussion between the men loyal to Logain. They discuss a man formally loyal to Logain now hanging around with Taim. The following is said: "It's not really Mezar. Oh, it has Mezar's face, right enough. But its not him. I can see it in his eyes. Trouble is, whatever the thing is, it has Mezar's memories. Talks right like him. But the smile is wrong. All wrong." We know there is a way to forcibly turn channelers to the Shadow, involving 13 channelers chan…

Do you think that the armies of Light will be given angreal for the Last Battle by the White Tower? I think it would be cool if the White Tower went through and issued every angreal it had to Aes Sedai and novices. Egwene said that she wanted every last woman who can channel to be at the Last Battle (or at least ready for it), so I guess it makes sense to go all-out with the angreal as well. I assume she just kept the wand sa'angreal. Perrin's hammer is awesome, and I got the impression from Berelain that the good guys were going to try and get the Ashaman to churn out a bunch of power-wrought weapons for the last battle. I hope they all get their acts together an…

In EotW Min tells Rand right after Nynaeve finds them that when Moiraine and Nynaeve together there are sparks in the vision, and before it was only when Rand, Mat, and Perin were present. So, is this a foreshadowing of Moiraine and Nynaeve to be the ones to use Callandor with Rand?

Question number one is why is "Moridin" capitalized in the Horn inscription? And number two, is when Mat died when Rand was fighting Rahvin did that break his link to the Horn? I am unsure on whether these things have been discussed recently, or ever... I would have looked but my search function is disabled. T_T

How does strength in the One Power, strength in the Flows and strength in Talents affect what people can do? Can they make up for weaknesses in the other? Say for instance, that you want to use the weave to hold/lift someone with Air. What decides how large the weave can be made? What decides how much the person can lift? Can someone who's very strong in the One Power but abysmal at weaving Air lift less/as much as/more than someone who's very weak in the Power, but strong in Air? What decides how large a fireball someone can create? Strength in Fire, or strength in the One Power? What decides how hard someone can hit another with a club of Air? Strength in…

OK I think Forsaken was working against each other and this saved Rand's life in the Stone. I have some thoughts about how Forsaken hampered each other. Please bear with me while I explain. If you think you need to correct me and add something please feel free to reply. I am confused on some details and I have some questions below. I would very much appreciate if you could take your time to answer them. 1 Rhavin, Be'lal and Ishamael meet in the Ways. Ishamael wants to kill Rand. Be'lal wants him to survive until he gets Callandor then to kill him (or convert him?). The argument turns ugly, Ishamael throws a fireball. 2 Ishamael tries to convert Perrin, Lanfear…

In my quest to understand the one power I've read a lot of theories. It seems to me that the most well thought out and detailed theories came from a WOTmania poster named Sidious. Apparently he had a very comprehensive post about One Power Dynamics that explained how strength in the power and the effects of angreal could be modeled on a cone. Unfortunately, WOTmania is no longer with us, so I can't go look at the thread. Does anyone have it saved perhaps, or know of somewhere it has been reposted? Thank you much, Lupy.

Sorry if my English is not good, that's mostly because i'm a Dutchmen. I just finished TOM in English, because i was too curious what will happen and did not want to wait when the book is translated. But i have no questions about that. I was wondering what will happen with a warder when his Aes Sedai becomes a Damane. I can't find any specific in the books. And i was curious about that. Will the Warders feel the same pain, or will the bond break? I have no ideas about it, maybe someone knows the answer?

Last year sometime I frequented these forums and there was a lively discussion going on attempting to put together a ranking of channelers. I've looked through about 10 pages, trying not to spam, but I give up. Anybody know if it's still here, where I can find it? If not, we can certainly revive the discussion here. I was thinking the other day about a discussion I had with my sister and one of the things that has frustrated her about the series. Her favorite character is Nynaeve, and she feels like Jordan built her up with these interesting plot points, then tore them down. For example, early in the series, Nynaeve was estimated to be one of, if not the strongest in…

This is the place for your theories! Personally, I think that Moridin is somehow posing as Taim. Which, admittedly, I have practically no evidence for. However! At some point in either TGS or ToM Taim's palace was noted to be decorated mostly in black and red. Likewise at some point in those books, I think Graendal remarks on Moridin's odd preference for red and black decorations. Coincidence? I THINK NOT. So yeah, there ya go. Lay it on me.

Now we know that Ishamael says that Nynaeve and Egwene will help Rand in a very important way in future. Therefore they are to be given to Seanchan as damane. Now how they would help Rand in future? I have 2 theories: 1) Nynaeve helps Rand to cleanse saidin. 2) Nynaeve and Egwene help Rand to use Callandor safely to reseal the bore. What is your take on this? And what about Elayne and Min? I mean it is obvious that Shadow knows prophecies of the dragon, then he should know that Elayne and Min will help Rand too. Why simply dispose them (kill them maybe)? Why not give Elayne as damane too? What are the Shadow's plans regarding Elayne, daughter heir of Andor and…

Overall I feel like Brandon Sanderson has done as good a job as he could do with WoT. On the whole he has kept true to what I'm sure RJ left, and to what he could take from the first 11 books. However, it seems to me that he has changed at least one thing in a way that Robert Jordan would not have wanted, and is not in the spirit of WoT. That is, the characters are becoming all two reasonable. Now this is pleasant, and something we all probably longed for as we read WoT. Characters that listen to each other, characters that can change each others minds, characters that do the things we as readers want them to do. Before the characters were always very frustrating, and I'm…

Ok, the one thing that has bugged me about the WoT series is what the heck is Mashadar and where did this corruption come from. I have vague memories of Mordeth's assassins being "unnatural" somehow, with no explanation as to how they got that way. Where did the taint that destroyed Shadar Logoth come from?

World of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time, does any one know where the updated version can be found or a site to search for it? I bought it several times from Barnes & Noble and just checked at Amazon. Each are the 1997 version. The updated version I take was released in 2001. Those who have updated version, providing images of its cover and/or of first pages might help.
