We used to have alot of forsaken, and even though they dwindled, we still have had even more bad guy characters introduced to us. Some of them will certainly die offpage, some might not die at all, some will play big parts in the POV as the main chars progress. So listing a few bad guys, what are you opinions. I'll write some options next to em, maybe i wont think of em all though. Fain Shaidar Haran(just because he is the DO's hand) Mat Cauthon(While he is a normal person, he is the only known person who has survived quite a chunk of the SL evil except fain, im not sure how resistant he is now, he is at least a good fighter) Rand(Well im pret…

  2. 1 The First of Mayene and Rhuarc - What happened during their ''First Meeting'' and what is the exact nature of their ''relationship''??? (Father/Daughter - metaphorically?) 2 Who freed Mazrim Taim? 3 Who sent the Gray Men after Fain in Book 4? 4 When did ''Oredith'' and Pedron Niall actually meet and why did as brilliant a man as the Great Captain believe a slimey weasel like Fain??? ... Or was Fain lying to Dain about Niall? 5 Who ordered the hit on Niall? 6 Did SH *Definitely* ''Rape'' Mesaana? 7 Did Cadsuane Sedai ever actually SPECIFY to the Dragon Reborn what the actual ''Flaw'' in Callandor IS??? (If not, WHY not?) 8 How did Mazrim Taim …

Hi all. You should be able to find the old boards (DM7), including all posts made after August 10th, HERE. If you have something important over there, please move it here. DM7 will stay up for at least a week, but that's not a whole lot of time.

  4. Started by Asgard Thorin,

I suspect that the Black Wind is, if not dead, then severely set-back. In Book Nine, Shadar Logoth became a filter to cleanse the taint. We don't know where Machhin Shin came from, but we do know the Ways are outside the Pattern, or at least normal space. But also, in Book Eleven Rand's locale was attacked by an army group, not an army, an army group of shadowspawn, an hundred thousand trollocs, near enough. I reckon that on the outside, Rand was at that place three weeks, our weeks. Even if it were a month, that would mean several hundred a day for thirty days if only one Waygate was used-if they had to avoid a fully predatory Black Wind. I think it had much to do with S…

  5. Started by KefkaPalazzo,

So, does anyone have theories on Mesaana's identity? I think she'll be revealed in TOM, so we have a month to figure it out first. My money's on Shemerin (the AS who was demoted, I think that was her name). -First, her position is rather similar to Moghedien's when she was first introduced. -She is a major rallying point for the rebels against Elaida, thus sowing chaos -When she is introduced in TGS, she is VERY nervous and jumpy, like Mesaana was in all of her appearances after CoT -She has made her residence in both the Tower and with the rebels, meaning she has some contacts on both sides -She shows the rebels the way into the Tower, allowing the battle t…

I wonder if Rand really could have destroyed the wheel, we know he had more than enough power, but that is not what i am questioning. He is ta'veren and thus is bound to the wheel very tightly, every time he does something out of line he is rapidly and forcefully pulled back into line. We know this has happened to him several times in the past, including when he tried to escape his fate as the dragon reborn until the pattern finally forced it be revealed with the battle in the sky at Falme. It is conceivable then that every action he ever takes is under the pattern's direct watch, so the question becomes could he really have done it? Would the pattern, at the la…

  7. I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this, or if it should really be put anywhere at all, but this is the most likely spot I can think of for people to see it and if anyone takes issue feel free to move, delete, or degrade it to your hearts content . Anyway, being the overly cautious and "real" worldly inexperienced person that I am, I wasn't exactly sure on the Midnight release pre-order process for BYU, so I asked them and the conversation went as follows. Hows that for a nice, quick response?

  8. Look at the World map. The south could be Land of Madman, the west the Seanchan, the east Shara and the north the Westlands (Or maybe some civilization up on the Northern icecap?)

Not sure if this is allowed, so feel free to lock it if it isn't. Anybody in the US willing to send me an eBook copy of Distinctions? I'll shoot you the cost via PayPal so you can purchase another copy with a credit card so as not to rip off Tor/Harriet/Brandon. I'm just not in the states and don't have a card right now. Thanks

So, Hello :D Ive kinda been doing this on and off for about two years, sometime it was quite a stretch of time inbetween, but lately its been a rather common thing while trying to sleep. That is, listening to a chapter of Wheel of time each night, in bed while trying to sleep. Sometimes, u dont even end up hearing the whole chapter, other times u do and then fall to sleep. Anyhow, i thought if there is anyone else who does this, or just likes relistening to chapters, could give suggestions. It could be something like a thread where u say each day what chapter u are gonna listen to, or give suggestions. Some people likes to read the book instead, or arent able to p…

  13. Amazon.com can be fooled into selling it to non-US customers: 1) Go to this page at Amazon. 2) Click on "Windows PC" or "Mac" as per your home computer. 3) Click the nice yellow "Download Now" button. 4) Twiddle your thumbs while it downloads. (If you don't already have an Amazon.com account, now is a good time to create one. Go to www.amazon.com and sign up for a new account. Give it your email address, credit card info, shipping address etc as required.) 5) Install the downloaded Kindle program. 6) Run it. Tell it your amazon.com account details. Hit the register button. 7) Follow this magic little link here. 8) On the right of the page it asks if you have mo…

  14. --Found this whilst searching for DMDB entries--I wrote it years and years ago. So, some time ago on a particularily boring day, i had a flash of nerdyness and wrote out a summary of how i thought the plot of A Memory of Light would go. Since then i've changed my position on certain things (mostly because of you Robert! You knowledgeable bastard! ) Anyway once again i find myself bored, so im going to go to the bad nerdy place again, and re-write my list. Preceding this i want to say that im working on the understanding that this is the last book. It is my belief, therefore, that the pace must increase, the threat of the shadow must increase, and that event…

OK so I'm going out of my mind here. I'm looking at the announcement page on Tor.com where they say "it's available for preorder" but I can't find a link to WHERE to preorder it anywhere. I looked on Amazon.com and they are only selling a Kindle version. Isn't there some place to buy a pdf or some sort of non proprietary version of the prologue? I REALLY don't want to have to torrent it, I'd love to pay for this. If anyone knows a good site to buy this at, please help me out! edit: I've also seen it on Barnes and Noble (but don't have a Nook), on Apple's ITunes (but don't have an IPod/IPhone), on a Sony site (but don't have a Sony Reader), etc etc. Theres GOT t…

I posted this to an early thread about the Big Unnamed Thing but it was completely buried in the landslide of replies on that thread. I've had a vague theory percolating for a while now, that the bubbles of evil, switching corridors, ghosts, and odd deaths might be a kind of "leaking" between the real world and tel'aran'rhiod. (This is different than the food spoilage and infertility of the land, which are clearly a Fisher King tie-in to Rand.) 1) All these things are centred around the human world (people, objects, buildings), not the natural/wild world. The natural world, aside from dead wolves, doesn't seem to have a very significant reflection in T'A'R. 2)…

  18. So from reading Lucker's TAR eyes theory that they are the big unnoticed thing, it got me thinking. They seem to be a malevolent force that has been watching all the events happen from TAR. Now Lucker's point out a similarity between the TAR eyes and the unseen eyes in shadar logoth as well. He goes on to theorize that Mordeth discovered something he shouldn't have and that it was the source of the unseen eyes. It was his findings that corrupted him and brought the ruin of aridhol and it's possible that the evil behind the eye's leaked from TAR into the physical world and inhabited shadar logoth. There was a way gate in aridhol and from what I remember, machin shin didn't…

  19. Started by Cut Strand,

The Nym are one type of living construct from the Age of Legends. What are the odds that the Dragon will remember how to make Nym? Could recreating the Nym be the solution to fixing the land (and loosening the Dark One's grip on the world)? This of course assumes that LTT knew how to make Nym in the first place. And that Rand remember that the Nym are constructs.

  20. Essentially I've decided that since this is the Spoiler board, all threads within it will have a 'anything goes' policy. If you do wish a thread discussing only one aspect of the spoilers, request it in the request thread, specifically asking for it to be restricted to the area you wish to discuss. So... 'I wanna discuss the seven striped lass, but i can't get the prologue so please have it be chapter 8 spoilers only'. NOTE: This is information for the pre-release only.

  21. 'Cuse me if this is discussed already, I couldn't find anything, but I'm wondering, the title of the last sequel must surely be 'The Last Battle'. Is this already known? How could it be something else?

  22. What things do you all think Moiraine will feel she has to fix assuming Mat, Thom, and Nolan (?) get her out of the Tower of Genji? So much has happened that is likely to make Moiraine swear (I don't remember, has she every said "bloody" or "burn you" or anything like that in the series?). Like: - Alanna bonding Rand without permission. - Cadsuane - Cleansing Saidin and the Black Tower (okay, these might actually please her, but I guess Rand's lack of involvement with Taim might be upsetting) - Lost her Warder - Seanchan

Given this is resolved, we could go for something more simple. What Was The Too-Young Sitter Conspiracy? First noticed by Siuan amongst the Rebels in [TPOD: 16, Unexpected Absences, 341], and by Seaine within the Tower in [COT: Prologue, Glimmers of the Pattern, 51], the Too-Young Sitter Conspiracy was a plan enacted by the Ajah Head's during the early days after Siuan Sanche was deposed. Essentially the conspiracy involved filling the Hall with Sitters who were too young for the position, enabling the Ajah Heads to establish themselves as defacto rulers of the Tower. The long-term intention was that the Rebels would be brought back in under Elaida…

    1. What was going on with Verin at the cleansing? Particularly, her own POV where she ran into Graendal. She thinks (like the Verin we all know and love) that a captured Forsaken would be an excellent subject for study. The problem is, she uses the word "Forsaken" in her own head, in exactly the way Darkfriends don't. Why? I mean, if RJ wanted to hide that she was Black the whole time, why risk it at all with an encounter with one of them? We knew Elza was Black, so why switch Verin and Elza's places at the cleansing? She refers to them as Chosen in her conversation with Egwene, so why not in her own head? 2. As far as the Forsaken in general, why bother with d…

I have a friend reading this series for the first time and after the fight outside the Hell on the other side of the street was Tom trying to forget that "someone" channeled or not. 27. Started by Owayn The Traveller,

Okay I've noticed over the last few months that people claim that Jordan's world is black and White and that there isn't any characters whose intentions are neither black or White but grey. That others books like a song of fire and ice have more varied and differently motivated character, characters who aren't necessarily good or evil. Well I disagree. Elaida: Now she is most defiantly nit an evil character but rather is self centered and deluded with power. She is on the the side of good but her actions and thoughts have had a tendency to lead to her benefits and secondly then to the tower and the good guys. She isn't evil but she has def hindered the good guys with …

  28. Started by TreeJoe,

Hi all, I am finishing up reading the eye of the world, and there are some strong hints about Elyas and Lan's connections. The WOT wiki says Elyas helped train Lan to be a warder, but Lan specifically states that Elyas taught him about the Blight and about the Sword. Now, Lan was supposedly trained in Fal Moran by the best teachers about the Blight, the Sword, and all areas of combat and warfare. He was bonded by Moiraine ON THE ROAD in New Spring, not after an extensive training period in Tar Valon. I'm thinking that Elyas knew Lan in Fal Moran. From adolescence. Has this already been discussed anywhere?

  30. Started by Tenesmus,

I have been dusting off the old brain cells and selectively re-reading portions of the series preparing for ToM. A couple of things really jumped out: 1. In TSR, when Verin meets Perrin in the old sick house, she is explaining why she is in the TR; looking for girls who can be trained. She goes on to say that Sheriam believes that the Tower is culling channelling from society by gentling men; and then goes on to say that Alviarin was mad at her for suggesting that Aes Sedai engage in a breeding program with men that can channel. WTF?!? Talk about foreshadowing. All three; Sheriam, Alvairin, and Verin are BA; I woud lhave loved to be in the room for that conversa…
