  1. So you get knowledge that a pack of Darkhounds have been dropped into your vicinity to track you down. The Terminator kind that melt down and reconstitute themselves when killed. They are anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours away - you just don't know, though you certainly hope its the latter. What is your plan of survival? I think in principle - and if you're very lucky - it might be possible to make it to an airport in time and fly off, eventually to another continent. So if you're in the US, say, you fly to Europe, Asia or Africa and never return. So unless they swim (they can't) or stow away on a boat or air carrier (probably not intelligent enough for that…

I have been wondering about Taramongaidon and the fact that "it wont be fought in the way Rand thinks". Maybe fought in the world of dreams? That way the DO's prison would be sealed in all of the worlds that we saw being touched via the portal stones. If the DO is free in one world, is he really defeated? The heros of legend are there, the dead wolves are there.... How else would Hopper be able to fight at the last battle? Thoughts?

  3. NOTE: I am NOT trying to disrespect either Team Jordan's or The Mod's wishes to not overly dissect this issue for fear of detracting from the enjoyment of the story over The Last 3 Books...however, an author change of a Major Series IS going to invite folks to guess and look...Especially considering the sad nature of Mr Jordan not being able to finish his masterpiece...and the very positive (imo) circumstances of Mr Sanderson doing such dedicated, respectful and skillful work now ... and its just Human Nature. And I dont think its wrong to wonder at it or be curious about it. So, my reason for posting this is not to detract, but out of sincere curiosity and well-meaning i…

I have said it before, and i would like peoples views on this. I have heard a lot of people saying "thank god Brandon picked up the pace of the books" Now I love Brandon's work, and what he is doing for the WoT is nothing short of amazing, however, I do think we are giving him too much credit and RJ not enough. If RJ were alive, the plot of tGS would be exactly the same, Brandon was writing down the story from RJ's outline, he did not actually think up the plots, so if RJ was alive, it would be the same pace, KoD was certainly of the same pace. (note: edited I would like to say that the job of writing down the story from RJ's outline is in no way a easy task.) …

I am almost finished with "The Gathering Storm" and I just have to say. "THANK GOODNESS FOR BRANDON SANDERSON"!!! I am guessing this may annoy some people here, but Jordan had lost it towards the end of his series. I was so bored reading the same old stuff over and over again I started skimming and just plain skipping over entire sections of the books. 12+ books to tell this story is ridiculous, there are much better stories from authors that are not just milking it... It seemed like Jordan was trying to be as descriptive as Tolkien, but Tolkien told his epic story in three books! I want to hear the end of the story now, but I would not recommend …

  6. Hello, I strongly suspect TOR will release the TOM prologue early again and probably the first 2 chapters. I think its very nice that they provide some of the content early, however last time the part you had to pay for came first chronologically in the book and the free parts were after which was really frustrating! If they are going to ask us to pay for some content and give some free, the prologue should be the free part as this comes chronologically first in the book. It was extremely frustrating to want to read the first chapters but not be able to since I didn't want to pay for the prologue before the book release... Of course, what would be m…

In tSR Ch:52 'Choices' Rand holds Sulin with flows of air to prevent her from breaking the last spear she held her foot against. When he was sure she would not break the spear he un-raveled the weave that held her...Why not just release her? In aPoD Ch:2 'Unweaving' Aviendha picked apart the weaves of the gateway she had opened to prevent anyone from following. Moridin watching says it's impossible. They couldn't do that in the AoL, healing the Severed as well not possible in the AoL. But apparently, a few Wise Ones have the Talent. Unweaving, Healing the severed possible. What about Death? Could death be healed? We do know Rand has to die and between Min an…

The Gholums mission is to kill Matt and capture/kill Elayne. In Ebou Dar the Gholum didn't follow Elayne when they left Ebou Dar, instead stuck around to kill Matt. We haven't seen the Gholum for a while and I believe he's still tracking Matt. Matt is in Caemlyn, Elayne is in Caemlyn whats the bet we see the Gholum show up there... I had a thought, what if the Foxhead medallion could some how be incorporated into the Ashandarie. Seriously, Elayne has a Talent for making Angreal, she might be able to do this. I can't think of another way to defeat the Gholum....can you?

  9. I thought this quote from Winters Heart was suspiciously, no in fact it was absolutely the same way Rand was described by others when holding the TP; "a physically powerful man who moved somewhat with something of a warders deadly grace, but shadows seemed to follow him, as if half the lamps in the room had gone out; not real shadows, but an air of imminent violence that seemed palpable enough to soak up light." ~ Winters Heart, Taims audience with Elayne

  10. Its certain they are the same person but they seem a lot different. Ishamael was certainly a devils advocate type figure. Playing and looking like the DO himself. Covered in dark dark shadows and cavernous furnaces for eyes, he floated about giving DF's orders and scaring people shitless in dreams. He defeats were pretty super natural seeming and his first ended the endless winter it for whatever reason. It can be assumed his TP use(funny sounding to non fans) and being semi trapped is attributed to his appearance and personality but has it ever been fully explained? Moridin appears to be more like a regular forsaken with no darkness or fire eyes or flo…

This may have already been covered. In TSR, Egwene visits in her dream Tanchico where she goes to the museum she notices the ter'angreal, isn't one of them a broken access key, a female one, now wouldn't that make two of the female keys and if it is I just wonder if there is another male one too... ??? :o I know the Choedan Kal was destroyed but to me makes an interesting thought.

It was said in the EotW that taveren are created because of the NEED of the pattern, Rand, Mat and Perrin became Taveren just before Moiraine meeting them, however because Rand is the dragon surely he must have had some 'safety' from evil due to the pattern wanting to protect him while he grows up. If this is the case and the pattern has good sense and because of how powerful the shadow has become creates two other Ta'veren to help balance the world. The effect of 3 Ta'veren means they can be in different places and 'influence' the people around them, doing good stuff and helping turn battles and attitudes ie Emonds Field and Perrin visiting the homes and 'convin…

  13. I forgot where I put this so reposting it. So, ok, this may be reaching at straws, but something occurred to me when doing the write up for the DMDB Very Helpful Verin listing--specifically, Verin's behaviour was scoured prior to tGS for actions that were out of the ordinary (aka Verinisms). After tGS, though, we've not really paid attention to new abnormalities--oh people discuss her notes to Mat, but the spotlight on her seems to have faded. Yet she does say some very weird things about her Warder, Tomas. My problem with this is why is Tomas spending his last hour doing anything? Why does he have a last hour at all? The last hour prescription is …

I am not sure if this is a mistake or a typo, but I have just read in TSR that there are two male sa'angreal stronger than Callandor. Lanfear grimaces at Callandor and says; "There are only two more powerful that a man can use"1 It is obvious that one of these is the Choeden Kal (sp?). Which is the other? 1 The Shadow Rising, ch. 9, 'Decisions', page 174 (Orbit, 1993).

Apology upfront if this has another tread already, but i couldn't find it. Will the Horn of Valere be revealed in TOM? I've always been facinated with this Horn since book 1, and i understand why it had to be removed temporarily (too powerful, like the Choedan Kal) But it seems time for it's return, although it think it will be AMOL. The Horn would be ideal for making peace with the Seanchan, since it spawns out Arthur Hawkwing. Imagine Mat calling AH forth and have him serve Mat: eat this Tuon!! In your face. ;) I'm afraid this will not happen, but it would have been nice. But with Eggy in control of the Tower, i think the Horn will be dug up pretty s…

So I've been doing finnicky editing on my own book, and that always makes me go very strange--so please note I'm mostly just having fun here. But could she be good? Consider. 1. She refuses to take part in the Cleansing. An act of cowardice or an attempt to allow Rand the chance he needs to cleanse saidin? 2. She's misled the Shadow as to just how dangerous the Aes Sedai are, telling them that the Aes Sedai will serve the shadow. Honest hubris, or an intentional deception? 3. She broke the Tower and has at all times attempted to disrupt the Aes Sedai. A 'Let The Lord of Chaos Rule' thing, or could it be a very clever method of keeping Aes Sedai stupidi…

What do you think the "big event" that will happen when Perrin reaches Rand? Min said that he needed to be with Rand, or things would go very badly. Maybe a confrontation with Gawyn and his mother? I do believe that Perrin, with his infinite wolfy wisdom, will slay Isam (whom we havent seen in awhile), and then ride to the Last Battle on Hopper's back with the wolves behind him. To optimistic maybe?

BJ seemed to reiterate a LOT through tGS about Moiraine's important..ness. We know Min's viewing about her, how Rand will surely fail without her. But why? Rand has had his epiphany, does he need someone to guide him through the rebuilding of Randland? My belief is that Moiraine will become the most crucial character that influences Rand, and will (praying to the GL) put Cadsuane in her bloody place. I personally can't see Moiraine being pleased with the ways things have gone in her absence. What are your thoughts?

  20. Ive been re-reading it. Love the book. Sometimes I miss things though ... My question mainly concerns the chapter called ''The Last That Could Be Done.'' I am as confused as Caddy. ... How DID the Domination Band get stolen out of Cadsuane's (HEAVILY WARDED) Room/Chest??? Elza didnt do it. (She couldnt have - no way her ability in The Power was significant enough to unravel Cadsuane Sedai's Wards) ... And if you read the TIMELINE of the chapter close enough ... Semi was not free yet. I never understood how the Domination Band got stoled from Cadsuane Sedai. Fish

I mean, of the foursome, she's the only one who's going to age, and she's already older than Rand to boot. I mean, imagine when she turns 40, and Rand, Elayne, and Aviendha all look like they are in their early 20's. And when she's 60, the three will all look like they're in their early 20's. And when she dies, the same will be true. I mean, for God's sake, even her children (if she has any) and Rand's other children won't age (probably). That's gotta suck. Of course, this is assuming that Rand survives... ;D

Destroy this theory. For - Scene 1 : An attempt on Elayne's life. Elayne claims to have been poisoned. Dyelin pulls a dagger out before any assassin appears. Scene 2 : Dyelin's declaration. She 'allies' with Elayne from the start, but declares only after the BA plot fails. Against - She almost died in Scene 1. She wanted Luan and co. closer before she published her support. (Weak, I know.) Usefulness : She might spring the DFs from Elayne's palace. She could leak Andor's battle strategy (I highly doubt/dislike this, she comes across as a patriot.) She might be the one to stab Birgitte, or Rand. Hopefully she'll finish Gawyn.

  23. The whole debacle with Cadsuane, Tam and then Rand's apiphany on Dragonmount led me to believe that like Lews Therin, Rand is going to draw those that are close to him to him. I don't know if they'll be staying in a Palace, like Lews Therin right before he went mad or not however. I think he's going to ask Tam to stay with him until the end because he needs the support. Anyone else think this is likely?

  27. The Life and Times of an Aes Sedai; A Study in Stupidity General Ideals and Purpose Servants of All The concept of an Aes Sedai is a fairly nice one. An authoritarian figure, highly trained and with access to great resources who is dedicated singularly to the greater good of society--presumably without personal agenda or bias--is a pretty utopian ideal. In modern times this is supplemented and upheld by the Ajah structure, which also is a pretty neat concept. Subdivisions each focused on serving the world in a specific way, thereby covering the smaller issues, yet still working in collaboration so as to also address the bigger picture. C…

There is a website somewhere that has read-throughs of the different books with notes. ie: It would lay out the plotlines of each chapter, and then give a note that *so-and-so* is a darkfriend. Or that the note that someone recieves probably contains what kind of information, etc. What is that website? Apparently there are a few of us doing a full readthrough by checking books out of the library. And we keep trying to get the same books. I'm on Crossroads of Twilight with about 5 or 6 chapters left and I have to return it. There are 2 people waiting on it. I actually own KoD, so I can start that any time. I'd like to catch the notes from those last f…

I've raised this before, but I was reading Linda's latest blog about potential new Darkfriends, and it reminded me of it. Thing is, there isn't much evidence for this, but I like it from a writers perspective. Consider, we are introduced to Zaida and Harine at the same time, in direct opposites. Harine gets banged around again and again by Rand, Cadsuane and later the Sea Folk themselves, Zaida on the other hand wins her own again and again. One falls, the other rises. What better a situation to set two people up as rivals. We know that Harine will become the Mistress of Ships--and she more than any of the other Atha'an Miere has had lessons that the sastisfyin…

Apologies, I'm sure there are many, many threads in various places on this topic, however I could not find an up-to-date one. I'm currently mid re-read, on book 6, and I stumbled across an idea that I'd never noticed before (although I'm sure plenty of other people have and I'm thick). The quote! Just after Taim has "rescued" Rand from the Grey Man, they're talking. "That man had to come from Sammael." "Perhaps," Taim said shortly, glancing at the Grey Man. "I would give a great deal to be sure." That had the ring of simple truth. Why did this quote get me so excited? When I got to thinking about it, this is irrefutable proof of something we already k…
