I think I may have discovered a mistake in Knife of Dreams! From what we know about Traveling and the limitations of creating gateways, I want to know what you all think about this: In the chapter, The Golden Crane, Nynaeve takes Lan to World's End via a gateway and then immediately weaves another one when they get there. As far as I know, Nynaeve has never been to World's End and if my memory serves me correctly, doesn't one have to get to know the area around them to be able to weave a gateway from there to another location? Does anyone else find this odd? If Nynaeve didn't know the area around her, how was she able to make another gateway so fast? I kno…

In TGS, Chapter 43 "Sealed to the Flame," we learn that Egwene fetched the Oath Rod from Saerin early in the morning after the Seanchan attack: It is also clear that Egwene did not learn from Saerin that Elaida had been captured by the Seanchan: A few paragraphs after the first quote above, she thinks, Thus, one of two things happened: Either Egwene fetched the Oath Rod from Saerin before Saerin learned of Elaida's capture, or Saerin failed to mention this important fact to Egwene. I find both of these scenarios implausible. The scene in which Saerin learns of Elaida's capture begins This does not sound like Saerin has left her "center of opera…

Just listening to FoH and the following quote jumped out at me [birgitte on The Forsaken shadowing each other] "And Demandred and Semirhage each shadowing them as well. I have not seen so much of them here since they were freed" - Birgitte, Fires of Heaven, Chapter 14: Meetings. Page 242 UK Paperback This seems to imply that even when the Forsaken were bound outside the Pattern they were still present in TaR. Am I missing something obvious here, because that just does not seem right to me.

First off it seems unlikely she and Rand will confer until near the climax of the novel, so what important things may she try to get going before that? I assume she'll accelerate the repair of the gate towers and the Tower. This should go faster with some of the new novices and their strength in earth. The combined Tower Guard has about 100k men. More then's needed in Tar Valon without an enemy at the gates. And if an enemy does appear at the gates they can be retrieved via gateway. Where could she send half of these men with a large compliment of Aes Sedai to do some good work for the Tower? There are two places that immediately come to mind. Andor in orde…

My memory is shot and so I cannot (or will not) cite the chapters or books to which I refer but if anyone has any idea as to what I'm trying to ask, then you're awesome. Anyway... It seems like every time I re-read the passages about Egwene with Galad or Egwene with Gawyn, I feel like RJ got them confused here and there. For some reason, I remember Egwene being smitten with Galad and daydreaming about him but later in the books, she's mooning over Gawyn and no recollection of her having a tryst or two with Galad. Has anyone else noticed this or has ever said, "Huh?", to themselves after reading these parts?

Early on in the Black Ajah hunt, when Seaine thought about how painful it was to remove just one Oath (to verify that an Oath could be removed), she thought that it was quite painful, and winced at the thought of removing all three Oaths at once. When Talene actually did have three Oaths removed at once, she screamed, as I recall, for several minutes afterward. But in TGS, no one who foreswears the Oaths does more than hiss. Admittedly, they had more time to prepare themselves and were in much better shape than Talene, but even so, I felt like the pain should have been greater--at least enough that they should foreswear the Oaths one at a time. Did anyone else have th…

This was so random and crazy and awesome, I have to share. Was watching the news this evening... er, a news-like program thing... and a reporter or whatever was interviewing this world-renowned archer. When he asked about the archer's technique and how he is able to hit his target so accurately, before he begins to explain, the video clip jumps to the man in a darkened room with the guy sitting on a chair and a candle at the other end of the room. I immediately jump up off the couch and exclaim, "the flame and the void!!", while my husband and his friends look at me like I've just gone nuts. Sure enough, the archer explains how he sits in a dark room and focus…

in the blight. I came across this in the Q/A tour section of Gen WOT So are there lots of Trollocs somewhere where they can can be stored and enter the world where needed. Perhaps Trollocs are involved in the Shara war and are being grown there. Perhaps the land of the Madmen or a parallel world like where Rand and Selene met the Grolm. They can't be transported by portal stones but the ways and perhaps portal stones would be in play.

From my understanding there was no one power during the age before the AoL(our age now/or the one before that one. It seems like the TS/Dark One/Dragon theme runs for Two Ages. That's of course if Rand actually fully seals the DO. I think we all take that as a certain, though it's never been stated anywhere. Any way, that means the DO has a 3300 year run where he touches the world. There is no need for the Dragon or the TS once the DO is locked up. I think the first age was our age right? Tech/no magic. Then you have the Age of Legends with Tech/Magic and tech probably being stunted by magic to a degree. Then you have magic and low tech in Rands …

Just had a thought. Messana obviously can't have impersonated a long-time Aes Sedai. But given how long most people are trained as novices / Accepted, I'd wager that the Aes Sedai will know most well enough to spot any impersonation flaws - Given how few novices / accepted there are (were). Thus, perhaps Messana is not strictly impersonating someone. What if she went and became a novice, and was accelerated through like the 3 wonder girls were. Perhaps this acceleration could have been done because of her skill and good learning skills (she was a scholar) after all, or perhaps the Messana ordered the BA to accelerate this novice through quickly for reasons …

If you do not intend to steal the next book, to keep your hard earned cash out of Tor's greedy hands... then now is the time to be getting down to your local public library and be requesting this book. Most libraries maintain a monthly/quarterly buying schedule, and if the book is from a popular series...they will most likely get it without delay. And if you are the first to request it, you will also be first to read it. I have done this with the last 3 books. The first two because I couldn't afford the book at the time, and "TGS" because I refused to give Tor what I consider to be blood money. With both of the last two books, I had them in my hand and was reading the…

So, let me start by saying I know there're loads of threads about her. In fact, there are so many references to her that it's really hard to find out whether the question I intend to pose has been discussed before. I thought to just reply in the 'Verin (Full Book Spoilers)' thread, but the forum mechanism suggested that I leave that thread be, so I'm starting a new one. Secondly, don't take my subject too seriously. It was meant to be slightly amusing (fingers crossed), but I think it also fits my question quite well. Now, to my question/comment. It bothers me that we had only Verin's word, her willingness to die and the apparent good her confiding in Egwene did…

I found an artist on deviantart who had two paintings that matched exactly with how I imagined the DO to look like if you were to enter his prison and look at him with your own eyes. I never thought of him as having a physical body, but more just the sentient manifestation of pure chaos. Something about his nature just seems like he wouldn't be limited to a body. He's beyond such restrictions. If you've ever read the Wrinkle In Time books, there's a part where a character looks out into the sky and sees a pitch black cloud deep in space that absorbs all light and instills a mortal fear into any who gaze upon it. It's difficult to describe the concept of the DO because he'…

So, was just looking at some Jordan Quotes and came across this, and it got me thinking. My thoughts on it currently are that Rand and Elayne's twin children will be Calian and Shiva Reborn, thus signaling the end of the age. Not really sure if this has been discussed, or if it really has any relevance, but there it is. P.S: for those who dont know, Calian and Shiva are always the Heralds of a new age.

Who is Laras? Who was Laras? What is Laras? In the gathering storm Verin says one or two things about Laras which just seem odd. '...when you next see Laras please thank her for supplying it(the tea)' Now why would she want Egwene to get into a conversation with the tower cook about the poisoning of a black ajah member? Or she could mean thank her in a fatal way I suppose. 'She promised it wasn't spoiled but I didnt trust her. Can't trust much these days can you?' Why the implication not to trust Laras? Egwene then aks if Laras is a darkfriend. To which Verin replies - 'She's many things but not a darkfriend' Goes on to say you wouldn't catch her …

I am curious as to what people think of as the design for the Accepted dresses. I know that the pattern itself would be very simple, likely not very full skirts, probably rectangular construction or something similar to save on cloth. However, I'm not sure how the "bands of colour" at hem and cuff would work. Any thoughts?

I was reading The Great Hunt and I found something interesting. I don't frequent these forums very often, so maybe its been mentioned before, but here it is. Right after Denna captures Egwene: Page 573, The Great Hunt (I editted the bold part) Well, we know Towers of Midnight covers Mat and Perrin (and supposedly Elayne (AND THE UNMASKING OF THE BLACK AJAH AS ASMODEAN'S KILLERS IMO :P had to put it in there)), so how do they factor into a Seanchan legend or place? This leads me to believe Towers of Midnight may actually be partially in Seanchan lands, or perhaps the Aelfinn and Eelfinn are actually from there. What do you guys think?

Light, but I feel like an idiot... Whenever I heard that oath "to make no weapon for one man to kill another", I always thought of Rand's shiny swords, but that never made sense, why add a third oath to stop making swords no one needs to sharpen? pointless... I never gave it much thought untill last night, and now I finally get it... The only thing that makes sense is that Shocklances (not to mention these other weapons that can reach miles...) are made, somehow, using the One Power. An age that was, untill only a "little" bit ago a stranger to war and strife must have been horrified by the battles and death that raged once the DO broke loose, and so, when the dust s…

Two Rivers was literally the middle of nowhere, geographically and metaphorically. Its placement is in the middle of the map near nothing important. The population is probably the most homogenious and unremarkable in the story. They are average height, farmers, dark hair and eyes. Braids and long bows are their claim to fame. They are what remains of a long dead great nation. But now they are refuge for citizens of ravaged nations. They have a new lord who has thousands of more refuges following him, including a queen and former queen of Andor itself. This lord is also married to a likely queen. What does this mean for the Two Rivers? Will they become…

Alright, there has been a lot of discussion as to whether the Eye of the World was used for the correct purpose and what its intended purpose was. I've been rereading EOTW and thought of something. What if the part (or all of) the eye's purpose was to help teach Rand how to channel? A number of things point to this. First, we know that the odds of someone teaching themselves how to channel are pretty slim (about 1 in 4), we also know that most(no concrete numbers) of those who do develop some sort of block (or bar) as the case may be. Rand never shows any signs of this. One could argue that Rand isn't always able to grasp the source when he wants to until he gets A…

This may sound like an asinine topic at first glance, since we tend to salivate for and devour the book that is being served up next. But if you focus on the plots that are predicted to be covered in each of the books, which book do you anticipate more: Towers of Midnight-Tower of Ghenjei, Seanchan, Black Tower, wolves, Whitecloaks Memory of Light-Last Battle While it's probable that not all the topics listed above for ToM will be resolved in Book 13, most of them could be resolved in the book. Personally, I've been eagerly waiting for the Tower of Ghenjei plot since it was introduced in EotW. The events of TSR piqued my interest even more, and I've …

Hey all, i'm re-reading Path of daggers right now, and came to an interesting question. When Rand went to disperse the Seanchan, and stop their inasion of Illian h brought 5000 soldiers and 50 asha'man. I'm wondering why a man who can literally summon millions to war brought so few, that army destroyed about 8 times it's number in enemy troops. If Rand had brought a 200k army with 100 asha'men he could have ended the Seanchan there.

Lews Therin—Our Friendly Neighbourhood Madman Suggested to have begun as early as the Eye of the World, but certainly present by the Shadow Rising Rand has been experiencing the seepage of memory and knowledge from his past life as Lews Therin. At around the same time—though more heavily in the Fires of Heaven—Rand begins to hear a voice which has the mannerisms and knowledge of Lews Therin. Whilst the memories are without a doubt real, in older days there was considerable discussion about the voice. Currently that discussion revolves around the Real Madness Theory and the Construct Theory, which are as follows. The Real Madness Theory: suggests that Lews Th…

Hey everyone, Luckers here. Most of you will have heard of Maria Simmons (The Maria from MAFO—Maria and Find Out), who along with Alan Romanczuk work for Team Jordan in making sure the continuity of the series is maintained—essentially, they’re the one who go through the 4 million words of notes to supply Brandon with the information he needs to keep the series running on path. These guys are the mechanics which keep the world running, and recently I was given a chance to get to know Maria a little better. Here is the interview; I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did. Oh, and please note that Maria refers to Robert Jordan as Jim (which is his real name--James …
