I think it'd be cool if we made a list of all named characters in the series. I read in the interview of Harriet that there are over 2k named ones! It might have a list of their names, and maybe a short description of who they are (for instance, "Red Ajah Sitter", or "former Amyrlin", or "random Andoran peasant").

Was just listening to the prolouge of tGS and noticed something. The guy who came to Greandhal's palace could of been a ashaman/dedicated/soldier. It was his description a man in black. I know Moridin could of wove the travelling weave but I think it was the man in black and he is an Ashaman of some sort. Two reason- 1. Why would Moridin leave the room after his weaving just to come back in a minute? The gateway had to made from inside the meeting room. Also why not just summone her himself if he made the weave? He didn't weave the gateway the black coated messenger did and came through and summoned Greandal on Moridins behalf as its possible Moridin has resorted to …

Galad's behavior seems very much like the oneness (as selena/lanfear called it) right up until Galad needed the oneness to fight eamon valda then he seems very unlike he knows what the oneness is

so , i'm on my umpteen-th reread, and i'm on the LoC. i've been Alanna is described as being dark and beautiful. and she has long flowing hair. i believe Tuon is black, with kinky hair, after it has grown in a bit. so is Alanna Sedai dark skinned like she's from India? theres another description of her when Verin embarrasses her and 'color blooms in her cheeks'. if she's technically black, could we see color in her cheeks, per se? i'm just trying to figure out if characters descriptions are somewhat close, in my minds eye. i've had these feelings before and i've read posts where others question the ethnicity of certain characters and peoples. like Tear or the Sea Fo…

I see no way that the Shadow can win an all-out war against the Light in Tarmon Gaidon . . . The gholam will be a handy creature for the Shadow (assuming he will respond to the Dark One and isn't a free agent). He's virtually indestructible and cannot be harmed by saidin/saidar. Having seen Rand and Logain virtually singlehandedly despatch an entire legion of Trollocs with slivers of fire and spinning gateways, it looks like an easy victory for the Light. We can also assume the Ever Victorious army will be on the Light side, and even the Children of the Light will probably fight the Shadow. How do you think the battle will play out and which creatures…

It seems like RJ likes to keep everyone alive because the ones who have died throughout the series were mostly minor characters or dark, you know? So... I'm curious to hear your predictions about who will die and who won't. My guesses: Mat -- He is a battle leader and he can recall dying several times in past lives during ancient battles. I see him dying and his soul becoming linked to the Heros of the Horn. I'd rather not see him go but hey, the wheel weaves as the wheel wills. Perrin -- I go back and forth with him. Ok, I'm drawing a blank about the females. Your turn!

So starting from a few weeks ago, I started to reread the whole WoT series and just started Lord of Chaos. As I was reading the prologue (Demandred at Shayol Ghul) there's one part that realhatly stuck out for me. "Despite the steam it was bitter cold now, now ; he did not allow himself to feel it, but instinct made him pull his fur-lined velvet cloak closer". I think this is significant in the fact that, at the time of LoC, "Randland" is undergoing the effects of the Dark One's taint on summer, making it extremely warm. And as we know from one of Kadere's chapters in FoH, Saldaea is extremely cold in the winter (they only have two methods to travel in the wint…

I will post a quick list of their description and use, and then below a more detailed citation. Cadsuane’s Ter'angreal Possessed originally by the wilder, Norla, who made Cadsuane 'earn them'. It is not entirely certain what 'earning them' entailed, just that it taught Cadsuane the lesson that 'what must be endured, can be endured'. 1. Eight-pointed Star - Vibrates when a man who can channel is nearby. Vibrates more violently as you increase the number of men who can channel who are nearby. 2. Hummingbird - Is a Well which allows a person to store an amount of saidar for use later. This allows someone inside Far Madding (and presumably a stedding…

Hi, I am new here but have read the series at least 4 times over from 1-12, and I have a theory about the "Crown of Andor" being the key to winning the last battle, here it is... Would it not be reasonable to assume that Rands Twins are the key to softening of Rands heart enabling him to win at the last battle? ???

So I was listening to TSR audiobook when something struck me. When Perrin is in the Wolf dream, chasing Slayer, he ends up at the ToG. When Birgitte appears, and is talking to Perrin, she describes them as evil. "They are not evil the way the shadow is evil, yet they are so different from humankind they might as well be." - Chapter 28 - To The Tower of Ghenjei. And this just made me think of the story of Shadar Logoth / Aridhol. How they became twisted, less human. We all know that SL was used to annhilate another evil (the taint). Could it be that the Finns / Finnland will be key to sealing the Bore? Some have speculated that a buffer is needed so that t…

I just started my reread of TDR and in the beginning they are hiding in mountains waiting for a messenger. Perrin thinks about several others who came before. How did one, much less several find their way to the camp? And how did Rand's group know to go meet them?

These are all Pre-TGS /// My Top Ten are: 1 Thom and Moiraine's conversation in TSR when she touches his knee. 2 Nynaeve telling Mat ''You take care of yourself, Matrim Cauthon, you hear me?!'' (I am having to go by memory on that quote, lol) 3 ANY time that Lan calls Nynnaeve ''Mashiara'' ... I know, I know...I am a sap, bbut it gets me every time, lol. 4 ''Oh, Light, Ingar; I think wanting to is enough.'' 5 Nynaeve's reaction, in KOD, when she realizes that she can't fix Rand's hand ''like it was.'' 6 ''You will do well, Rand.'' 7 Egwene and Siuan's talk in TPOD about the Three Oaths. I think maybe it was Siuan's passionate and emoti…

Suppose that Egwene took the Oath Rod directly from Saerin's rooms, without seeing or speaking to Saerin, on the morning after the Seanchan attack. (If you want to debate whether this actually happened, see http://forums.dragonmount.com/index.php/topic,59408.0.html.) She would not have wanted Saerin to flip out at learning the Oath Rod was gone, so she would have left a note, explaining who took it and why, and ideally referencing something that only Saerin and Egwene (or as few additional people as possible) know, to prove that it was Egwene who took it. Moreover, this note would have to be cryptic, so that it would convey no information if it fell into the wrong hand…

I understand the basics of how they(the DB) work, I think, but reading some of the posts here turned the small trickle of questions about these things into a torrent. ??? I know the DB will bind a male channeler(Rand for example) w/ his own power, and the leash holder(s) would be able to use his power like a link. (I understand, too, that eventually the man would gain control of the leash holder) The leash holder(s) would also be able to control his body(mind too?), but to what extent? When Semi forced Rand to strangle Min, Rand repositioned to get more leverage, was Semi controlling his every neuron to do that? Or, did his own "how to" part of the brain kick in to o…

So I work in a photolab where people have to give their names in order to place an order. I just finished serving a Rand, and earlier tonight I had an Alanna and a Rina (who is a sitter in the Tower and Elyas Aes Sedai). I'm just waiting for Verin to come in so I can give her a high five.

I'm rereading KoD cause I'm bored and just finished Vows and a thought/question hit me. LTT keeps saying Rand is in HIS head. Is this just a madman/disembodied-voice ranting, or is Rand's voice somehow being time-warped back then and LTT being rebounded and that is what made LTT mad in the first place? I know, crazy/stupid/weird idea, but it popped into my head and I thought it might make an interesting discussion since we've seemed to have talked everything else to death for now. And does this take place between all The Dragons?

Ok, so last we know Taim's freely letting Pevara pick men to bond. From tGS we know she and her crew never returned--though we don't know how long has passed since they left. Certainly there seems to be no concern over Tarna's absence, so it might have only been a day or two before the Seanchan attack. From there we also know that the Rebels sent their own team who are very late in returning.

Hi all, brand spanking new member and it's for good reason. Promised myself I wouldn't join until after finishing series but on Path of Daggers at present. Basically I remember a quote along the lines of: "It is easy to deal/hand out justice but not so easy to take it back" It's along those lines and very Profound. I feel Perrin was involved amd it was in the last few books. Anyone with a fantastic memory that can help me out! Many thanks David in Scotland

i was wondering how everyone pictured the different nationalities in WoT, and what race/ethnicity you see them as, or what country you compare them to in our world. Here are some of mine Illian-Greek Sea Folk- Indian/Sri Lankan Dark Tairens- Arab Two Rivers- Italian Andor- English/Anglo Saxon Saldean- Half Asian Half white Ebou Dar- Italian/Spanish I base mine mainly on their appearance, but Illianers names (Dragynos, Pedros) have a Greek ring to them to me, and Andoran names are like English names to me. What are yours?

Hey guys, Harriet was kind enough to do an interview with me recently. Which was, you know, brilliant. ;D Also thanks heaps to Maria Simons whose facilitated it, and has been so patient with me. Hope you guys enjoy. James: Ok, I suppose I’ll start on the job. How did you come to edit for Jim? Did it just fall into place due to your respective jobs, or was it something you had to discuss first? Harriet: It fell into place as follows: When we met I was editing my own imprint, and I gave him his first publishing contract. It was for the Fallon historical novels: The Fallon Blood, The Fallon Pride, and The Fallon Legacy. We worked on the Fallon Blood all the…

So I just reread Shadow Rising, and the part where rand weaves black cords into asmodean during their fight in rhuidean got me thinking. How did he do this? Asmodean mentioned he was linked to the DO and that rand cut him off from the DO's power. Could rand possibly use this against other forsaken or the DO himself? What if he ran into shaidar haran and cut him off? I'm just curious as to what the link itself actually does and what, other than losing protection from the taint, other any other consequences could be.

Is Ishamael/Moridin what he says, has he fought Rand again and again in every age/turning of the wheel, making him to the shadow what Rand is to the Light, a soul that is reborn in every age to fight on the Dark Ones behalf, like Rand is a soul that is reborn to fight on the Creators behalf. Was that the Dark Ones voice at the end of tEotW, was he refering to Ishamael as the chosen one. Since the Dark One is not a physical being, and if the Last Battle involves an actual duel between Rand and the DO, will the DO use/poses Moridins body in some as yet unseen way to fight Rand. And finally i want to know if people think that the Last Battle means the last battle between the…

I have been trying to keep a list of known or suspected Black for twenty years. Most of them are public knowledge, but I have 35. I would appreciate any more non-obviousle ones in a quick note to my PM. THANKS!!! P.S. The only two things I'm tracking in the series are the BJ and The Band (Matt and Toun should rule the World)!!!

It was a very long time ago when I read it, and I don't even remember which book it was mentioned in (I think 1-3). But I remember it being mentioned that aes sedai researchers/scientists would make their own pocket dimensions to carry out their studies in. These pockets could flow separately of the main flow of time, but they were risky due to the fact that the 'bubble' could pop, so to speak. Does anyone know which book this was mentioned in? I'd love to re-read that part because I'd like to think it could play some part in the future. *crosses fingers*

Long time reader first time poster. How come mat got to ask 4 questions to the finns in Tear? 1) Should I go home to help my people? He is told to go to Rhuidean. Then a bell tolls, they notice he is Taveren. Mat's thinks Rhuidean, that's in the waste, he gets angry, 2) Why should I? Mat thinks they are giving him riddles. The finns answer if he doesn't go he will die. The finns get anxious, there is another bell toll. 3) Why will I die if I do not go to Rhuidean? He will have side stepped his thread of fate. Let his fate to drift on the winds of time. NOW go, you must go quickly. The guide comes back, mat complains that the finns have led …

Supposedly Rand endured the worst thing that could ever happen to him. I was thinking about Grendals orders in another thread. She's supposed to bring him pain right? Well if Rand is wrong, that there's worse that can be done to him, what would it be? I was thinking what if they had a girl go into rands rooms Mirrored like Elayne or aviendha, had that person hostage nearby so Rand would feel them close in the bond, then put a pleasure weave on that person, then had the girl sleep with Rand, then reveal the info in some dramatic way to Rand so it blows his mind. Moraine had already learned that sleeping with Rand would be disasterous. So we know this would be bad, th…

So, in the Lord of Chaos, when Rand spies on Egwene and company in TAR (and discovers the location of Salidar), is he there in the flesh, or did he dream himself accidentally into TAR and was aware of it being real in some way? He was obviously there for longer than a few seconds, so I don't think he dreamed himself into TAR as some sort of ta'veren pull, as he himself muses. It seems like he ended up there accidentally, but not in the way that the other normal dreamers do (the ones who show up for a second, and then flicker out). He is able to channel as well. I know that he has the ability to go to TAR in the flesh (chasing Ishamael), but I don't remember him doing …
