  1. Started by Leatherleaf,

This may have been discussed, but I haven't seen it. I think I may have found the reason why Andoran nobility resemble - to one degree or another - the features of Aiel. When Rand goes to Rhuidean and sees the Aiel history, we see that at one point some Aiel women and children are taken prisoner by people. It can be assumed that this was not the only instance of such kidnapping. Also, in a discussion following the Rhuidean visit, Rand is told that the Cairhienin were the only people to not abuse the Aiel. So, what I think had occurred is that some of the ones who kidnapped Aiel women took them as wives and eventually came to be of the line that founded Andor. Thus, their …

Right, that creepy messenger dude (forgot his name) that Sammael sent to Rand after he took Caemlyn and died by blood when Rand refused the alliance, how did Sammael do it? It didn't seem like compulsion, so what? Was it ever clarified by RJ?

I was thinking about this when Nynaeve healed Logaine fully but only halfway for Suian and Leane. If only a 5-power weave of saidin can fully heal a stilling and a 5-power weave of saidar can fully heal a gentling, can a man fully restore Leane and Siuan after Nynaeve did her healing? Can burning out be healed in a similar manner? I tried searching, but it didn't get me anywhere; if anyone has asked this before, please direct me there.

The other day, I finally concluded watching Battlestar Galatica, which is a series I enjoyed a great deal. When the end came, I found myself with a feeling of loss. The ending itself is not what caused this feeling. It was the end of a series I had grown to cherish. I was emotionally invested in the characters, the ship, and the story. When it ended, there was a void. I was not expecting to feel like this. I really felt like I had lost a friend in my life. I guess you could say I went through a bit of grieving. I then began to think about other parts of my life and naturally gravitated to WOT. I have been reading WOT for almost 25 years. That is more th…

Armed Forces Borderlanders Merillile estimated the army in Andor to have 200,000 and we know they left a significant force behind. Depending on what they term to be ‘enough to stop anything short of the Trolloc Wars come again’ that could range from between 50,000 to 200,000. We must keep in mind that to the Borderlanders a big incursion from the blight is a few thousand. Note Bashere’s surprise at the numbers involved on the attack on Algarin’s manor. In any case Lower = 250,000 Upper = 400,000 Lan will likely gather quite a force in his march also... 50,000 or more I’d guess. Rand's Forces Aiel - Based on Mat's force assessment of th…

Guess we know who the three that will enter the Tower are going to be. I would have guessed these three were too obvious. http://torforge.wordpress.com/2010/05/25/towers-of-midnight-cover/

  8. Is there any way for a channeler - male or female, to know how powerful someone is if they are using a ter'angreal? Is it possible that Alivia is indeed stronger then Lanfear, or at least the same as Lanfear? Why would it be a shock to Lanfear that Alivia would be using a ter'angreal? That makes me think that she can see how strong she is, and knows she's stronger even without the ter'angreal. Alivia was linked with other channelers too wasn't she? How would that throw the power estimation off? Also, is that old lady that is supposed to be really strong (can't think of her name) as strong as either Alivia or Lanfear? The Rebel Aes Sedai seem to think she wil…

So I know there's this big thing about Something huge between books 4 and 6. I got a question... When Moiraine went through the Door Ter'Angrael, I'm 90% sure that's the one from the Waste. If she hadn't been through before, maybe what happened in there is a LOT different than what people think. Maybe with Lanfear having been through (Lets say on assumptions people go that she wished to be as powerful as a woman can be in the power), maybe Moiraine was the only one able to make wishes. Maybe unlike Mat she simply did not request her release. I could easily see her requesting Lanfear's death, or maybe that just came from entering twice. Thoughts?

At the end of The Great Hunt, Lan is seen sharpening his sword, is this a mistake by the author or what, because Lan’s sword is a power-wrought blade: The Great Hunt page 678 ‘What Was Meant To Be’ “The two women had to support him, one on either arm, down to where the campfires were already burning, not far from a road of hard-packed dirt. Loial was there, reading a book, To Sail Beyond The Sunset, and Perrin, staring into one of the fires. The Shienarans were making preparations for their evening meal. Lan sat under a tree sharpening his sword; the Warder gave Rand a careful look, then a nod. “ It’s especially weird considering this little speech from Lan at…

Rand has 3 women, there were 3 boys from Emond's Field, Rand is caught up in a triangle with Lews Therin and Moridin, there are '3' sides at present - Us, the Seanchan and the Dark, and in minor detail, Elaida had a triptych on her wall of the Dragon (I believe)... Does '3' have a significance?

  13. I am currently re-reading the series in anticipation of ToM and I came across something interesting that made me think of Elaida and her decent into a paraniod tyrant. Reading Fain's POV gave me this idea. This got me thinking that the poison spread from Shadar Logoth could have infected the Tower witch resulted in the distrust in the later books, may have been said before, and i may be wrong, but there it is. Thoughts?

  15. After Elayne and co. fix the weather with the bowl of winds and they are all travelling through Andor to Caemlyn, Elayne decides to study some of the ter'angreal she got in Ebour Dar, one of them she describes as being a red colored rod that felt hot and it made her think of Fire, after she channels into it she blacks out and wakes up the next day having done something embarrassing but no one will tell her what it was. I think this ter'angreal was an age of legends sex toy, which she went out into the inn's common room to use Edit: We maintain PG-13 rules of conduct, which does not mean you cannot discuss the sexual aspects of the story, but does mean you provide a …

This is random, but just had a thought - Rand's wound from Fain's dagger did not heal after the cleansing because Fain and Dagger are still around. But, once they are "gone" (balefire, anyone...?) I think that it will either disappear or will be healed. That's all I had to say. Thank you for listening. :)

When we first see Melaine in The Shadow Rising, Rand and co had just entered the Waste via portal stone and she tells Moiraine that she's spoken with Aes Sedai before. When would this have happened? I don't see it likely that there was real talk between the Wise Ones and Aes Sedai during the war, at least not along the lines of how novices are trained. The passage in the book:

Work has been a little slow this week at the TCU campus - so I've been able to do quite a bit of reading. I'm on chapter 39 "A Cup Of Wine" in The Shadow Rising. I do believe that the first half of this book was by far Jordans best work yet - Mind you I'm only four books deep so I have yet to experience the other half of his fantastic little series. However, things are slowing down a bit - I have just discovered that Trolloc's are in Waste - The Beautiful Nyneave and Elayne have just landed in Tanchico - And of course Perrin is a 'bamf' slaying Trolloc's and Whitecloaks alike. Lan remains to be the greatest character every made. Aviendha is hilarious - "You…

  19. As the blurb type thing was posted on DM and revealed the theme that would dominate ToM just wondering if anyone has thought of more BUT theories or have them confirmed. IMO i am leaning towards something to do with TAR and Perrin, i think someone has pointed out the "unseen eyes" in TAR and i agree that there may well be something in that. Not sure how but it fits the blurb and BS comments

  20. I'm halfway through The Lord of Chaos, but for some reason I didn't find out how Moghedien appeared in Salidar after Nynaeve captured her in The World of Dreams with the a'dam, and in the end of the book gave her forkroot and she told her that "I'll meet you shortly in Salidar" - How did she (Moghedien) get there?

So, I have been lurking on these boards for a week or so, and am surprised at the number of comments that say something along the line of "I used to really like Perrin, but he's become so emo/single minded/boring that now I can't stand to read him." I think Perrin's actions since Rand sent him after the Prophet become more clear and understandable if we look at the entire WOT as a "coming of age" story. Consider: Three young men leave their sleepy small town and are whisked into the larger world. For various reasons, the three can either never go back, or never go back to the way it once was. Each of the three meet this challenge/opportunity in different ways…

  22. I'm new here, and haven't finished Gathering Storm yet, so please don't spoil me. Maybe people have posted this before, but I just thought of something while reading Gathering Storm. Let's assume Rand wants to kill the Dark One forever. Let's also assume that's not possible. So what do you do? Plan 1: You turn his Champion (Ishy / Moridin) against him. all Rand has to do to insure success forever is to win Ishy back to the light. He said in book 1 that the Creator and Dark One created Champions that will fight forever. what if they decide to stop fighting? Plan 2: You merge with Ishy and the champions live happily ever after. Rand can'…

Hello everyone, I have been reading the WOT since it first came out 20 years ago, and is by far the best fantasy series I have ever read. I have a theory on the aftermath of the last battle. I think that after the Last Battle, all those who can wield the OP will be burnt out. It seems to me that Randland is entering the Renaissance period, where magic was lost in our world and science took over. In the Big White Book, LTT was in had of a ring that was named after the person who discovered the OP, so at some point, the ability to channel must be lost. Anyway that is my theory, let me know what you think.

So. As we have learned thus far, Fades are not fully in phase with time with the rest of the Pattern, and the reason for this would be that the True Power is involved in their genetics, and the True Power isnt natural to the Wheel or its Pattern. What about a Fades cloak, then? Why doesnt it move with the wind? If a Fade were to take its cloak off, apparantly it would vanish, according to Moghedien when she observes Shaidar and is surprised that Shaidars DOESNT vanish. I cant figure it out. Ive been trying to analyse a few things connected to the Dark One and Im stuck on this one. Are the cloaks True Power made? I cant imagine that the cloak is part of the Fade …

Whether because theyve got a tragic backstory, or you relate somehow (hopefully not the evil part), or you just think they're badass. Doesnt necessarily have to be a darkfriend. Taim - too mysterious not to be interesting. The scene where hes introduced and he has a casual conversation with Rand while being stabbed by a bunch of swords is awesome. Plus he built an equal to the white tower in less than a year. Fain - the guy nails fades to doors, what more is there to say? Demandred - cant help but feel sorry for this guy, would have been the greatest name in the Age but because of LTT he's a footnote. Plus by my count hes the only male forsaken who hasn't …

  28. I'm almost done with book five. I can't wait to read them all. However, I am a little worried about a new auther and everything. I know the Jordan vision of the story will be in tact, but I'm wondering about Sanderson's style. I never read the Myst Born books or anything so, what I wanna' know is, does Sanderson emulate Jordan well? Does he even try to? Or does he just use his own style? I guess I'm just wondering if anyone can give me some spoiler free opinions & comments on Sandersons continuation of the greatest fantasy series ever written.

  30. The book comes out and says it albeit indirectly. Marion in some tales is accounted to be an incredible archer, is adventurous woman and when she first Robin Hood Doesnt like him. Brigitte says from her own mouth that she never likes Gaidal when she first meets him, obviously its known she is an incredible archer. But she comes out and says her name was Maerion once a LONG LONG time ago, first age perhaps?
