A character who is shady and his motives are well hidden. He's my favorite character. My crazy theory is that Mazrim is a good guy, Logain is the Bad one. What does everyone else think. Good Guy or Bad Guy?

I've been thinking about the WoT in a sort of metaltheological way. What are these Souls that are woven into the pattern, what is the mechanism of their rebirth. I also sort of saw it in a Buddhist way, like the cycle of reincarnation for them. Do these souls remain individuals in a sense, to character traits one portrays in life carry through to the next? If you are greedy man this life will you be prone to greed in your next? It seems that Humans at least always remain human, they aren't reborn into the forms of animals or spirits. Yet they don't seem entirely static. For example, is the maligned and twisted soul of a Trolloc still at it's core a Human soul? …

Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone can help me. I've loved this series for many years now and have multiples of some books, and having just received a Kindle for christmas I was excited to go add the books onto that as well. I know that so far there are only 3 that have been released as ebooks, BUT Out of the first three books in the series, only #3 is available to download outside the US. Any ideas why this is? I know that some ebooks aren't available across borders because of licencing and such but I think it's silly that one book in a series would have the right publishing rights and two others don't. I'd really like to download these so any help is apprec…

I just finished TGS a couple days ago. I started it on Monday - would have read it months ago, except I had very little free time and I was determined to reread the series before I started the new one. As I read it, there were certain aspects of the plot which made me wonder how long this story had been in Robert Jordan's mind as compared to some other series, so to my surprise, when I looked up the Wikipedia entry for Eye of the World, I noticed that it lists January 15th, 1990 as the original publication date. It struck me that, assuming that that is correct, I haven't seen anyone make note of that fact... I only picked up the series for the first time in late 2…

hey- new to the forum and I know this really isn't crucial to the plot line but its been annoying me On wikipedia and on the WoT wiki it keeps mentioning how Berelain is most likely to be Galad's love interest I admit that it is quite possible with Min predicting she will love a man in white - but thats a pretty large spectrum of guys I'm surprised no one drew links between Galad and Serene Sedai (I think her last name is Nemdahl) of the White ajah Min predicted with Galad that(I hope I got this right) -two beautiful people falling in love with each other. Sarene is the only character, other than Galad and Lanfear, whose physical beauty is consistently …

How many Tinkers are there in Randland? They're vegetarian...healthy hearts. Plenty of manual labor exercise...healthy hearts. Maybe a little Two Rivers Tabac once in a while...only bad if abused. Probably an occasional nip of brandy or watermelon wine? Healthy mental attitude toward life in general. Dancing, music...good for what ails a soul. Probably rely on herbs for medicine. Overall, it seems that they should thrive. They've been around as long as the "so called Aiel". The Aiel eat meat, live in the Waste, kill each other, and yet there are countless thousands of them. Shouldn't Randland be saturated with w…

Slightly confused, can anyone help? All through the first books, we're told repeatedly that Nynaeve, Egwene and Elayne have the potential to be the most powerful Aes Sedai ever known, and that their strength in the One Power is unmatched etc. We also keep hearing that Nynaeve is the most powerful Healer ever seen etc etc... But I'm confused, because in later books, people who are bursting at the seams with ability pop up (Sharina, Alivia) and once or twice it's mentioned that they are far more powerful than N, E & E - and yet, we are also still told at the same time, that N, E & E will be the most powerful who ever lived, despite people having more ability t…

Heres Mines: 5 Elaida Sedai ... I know shes a vile person but she was a FASCINATING character to watch crash and burn after one idiotic mistake after another...in SOME respects she reminded me a lot of The Queen Regent in AFFC, Cersie Lannister. 4 Ahlanna Sedai ... Maybe I just like the Stones she showed in doing what she did to The Dragon Reborn (not saying I AGREE with it...but shes no coward) 3 Verin Mathwin...What needs to be said? Shes Verin!!!! - Nuff said! 2 Cadsuane Mehlidrin...I know alot of folks HATE her...I don't. I like her alot. 1 Moirane Damodred...I know this is not a very original choice for 'Fave WOT Aes Sedai', but I just LOVE t…

i started reading the mistborn trilogy when i heard BS was finishing WOT. I loved the series and don't think I've ever read a more moving scene in a book than when Kelsier meets the lord ruler in the square at the end of the 1st novel. actually had tears in my eyes, half cause it was such a touching event and half cause I know RJ will be able to look down happy when WOT is finished and know it's been finished with heart and skill

I got to thinking the other day, about darkfriends and rewards and stuff. It's mentioned in the books that darkfriends (Black Ajah, anyway) are rewarded for good service. Is it mentioned anywhere how darkfriends are honoured, if there are special darkfriend rewards? Or is just "You did good, the DO is pleased and you'll be immortal upon his release" / "Good work, here's money, spend it" / "Now who do you want us to kill to promote your own success", and that kind of stuff? Another thing I wondered about. Aside from the Forsaken, do we know of any other 3rd Age Darkfriends than Fain who have visited Shayol Ghul? We know Alviarian has not, and that she w…

I was just wondering if anyone Knows how skilled a Fade is with a sword comparable to other characters or just average soldiers? Cause in the earlier books they are made out to be very fearsome and possibly as skilled as a Bladesmaster. But then later on it seems just about anyone can take on one (ok maybe an exaggeration). This just randomly popped in my head and I was wondering if there was any outlined answer or whether it was just based on ones opinion.

There must be some special filter in their eyes that allows them to recognize a fellow shadow subject. When Rand is fighting in Fal Dara, Ingtar shows up and tells Rand to go away that he'll take care of this one. I get the idea that the fade somehow recognizes Ingtar as being a darkfriend. The extra large halfman "marks as his own" the Black Ajah sister (Alvarin?). This is supposed to be an identification of some kind. It must not be visible to non-shadow people or it would raise eyebrows. For a while, I thought maybe RJ had all of the darkfriends having really dark eyes/irises. But, that idea faded quickly. Too many "good guys" with dark eyes. S…

Ok, I finally found my WoT game and something really caught my eye at the opening cut scene of the game. It shows the Dragon sealing the DO and in his hands in the swords that shines like a sun. So, I know RJ closely monitored any side kicks of the series and it would be a safe assumption to make that he defensively saw that cut scene before the release. Does that mean that LTT actually used Calandor at the sealing? And if yes, is the answer to sealing the DO prison is not the amount of power but the correct mix of powers (male and female)? We know that LTT did not have any women with him. And at the sealing not only saidin was tainted but also the seals and the prison we…

I am on my second read of the series and with the benefit of hindsight, it has struck just what a total baddass Ishamael is. This guy has a resume for Evil Overlord and Scheming Villain to put anyone in fiction to shame. Just off the top of my head: Causing panic in the Hall of Servants by publically swearing to the shadow as the first one. Leading the dark forces towards victory in the war of power Starting the Trolloc Wars that raged for 300 years Founding the Black Ajah, eventually gathering in very significant numbers Founding and running the entire network of darkfriends for 3000 years Convincing Arthur Hawking to hunt down Aes Sedai when they could …

Ok, so we're all going a little nuts, so I figured I'd throw this out there fun and games and for something other than going and peeking at the spoilers to focus all our nervous energy on. Now, Ernest Hemingway wrote a story in six words once. It was "For Sale; baby shoes, never worn." We're going to do the same. Points will go to inguinity, humour and originality. Pointless points, but points nonetheless. Feel free to post several times. Rand frowned, the Dark One quivered. Egwene knelt as Elaida died. Elayne bathed. That is all. Moridin rolled over. Moghedian died. Now you guys! Remember to keep it to tGS.

i'm writing this now from memory so i may or may not be completely wrong. but after the girls uses the Bowl of Winds and are forced to escape via Gateway, there is a huge fight with the Seanchan. IIRC at this time Aviendha is still wearing Ebou Dari clothes and therefore she has no Shoufa. her face is not hidden, a fact that would cause a massive amount of Toh, but it hasn't come up once, neither in conversation or even a quick mention of how she deals with it. i would love if someone found evidence that her face is concealed, but i can't find any. i don't wanna say Jordan messed up but it's as close as i'm gonna get with this

Ok...I understand that none of this is real. People don't really "channel", etc...but when real and natural meets real and natural and the unnatural happens, I have a problem. I had a hunch in Path of Daggers that RJ didn't have a tight grasp on all things winter when he sent Egwene's horse out onto a frozen lake (begging for four broken legs even fitted with special shoes), but now Faile & co. is being dragged off across the tundra NAKED. This is where I have to draw the line. Anyone who's had a snowball fight without gloves knows how quickly digits begin to freeze. If it was cold enough for snow in the first place, which is 32 degrees F, it would take about 30 mi…

Let's face it. If you want someone rescued from a secure location, if you want to plan and execute a raid on a large army or an ambush on a small one, if you need to walk into a palace and hide in plain sight, while finding out the darkest secrets of it's dungeons... you call Mat and Co. Mat is Hannibal. The leader. The man with the plan. The guy with the smile. The (recently ;) ) retired ladykiller. Thom of course is Face. He's the man with the golden tongue. The guy who can infiltrate any social circle, read political faces like a book, and turn a friendly smile over a cup of wine into a tactical advantage for his team. Juilin is BA. He's the …
