Ok, so everyone gets hung up on the lie--its wierd, we all know that. But by her own POV we know her to be bound by the First Oath, yet she seemingly lies. Some suggest mental manipulation--Moiraine said to her "could you go grab that blanket" and Verin states "Moiraine sent me" 'to get a blanket'. If that sort of prevarication were possible one would think other Aes Sedai would have used it--but honestly, end game, its a huge mystery. So lets shove it aside. Maybe she lied, maybe she didn't... but here is a question--why did she lie/distort the truth? I mean seriously--she was speaking to Shienarans who respect Aes Sedai, she could have said a mouse thought th…

  2. Okay, bear with me but this has been on my mind for some time. There are alot of characters that we know are definetly good (Rand, Mat, Egwene, etc.) that even if they do some things that are questionable or wrong, we know thier hearts are in the right place. Then there are alot of characters that are definetly bad (Forsaken, Padan Fain, Black Ajah etc.) again that might do some things good, but its to bring their plans for evil into fruition (Sp?). Now, lets talk about the ones that we are just not sure about. Definetly Verin IMO tops this list, but there are many. We have had many questions about whether they are Forsaken in disguise or whether they are Darkf…

Always find something new on re-reads. This time on p 350 in FOH I see a passage about Lini's six hand painted ivory miniatures. Morgase wonders how Lini could afford them on a nurse's stipend. I flash on the other time miniatures are mentioned and they concern Elaida (same book p 290)who has them in one of the three boxes on her desk as Amyrlin. Now I wonder if it is just a coincidence or whether something more sinister is at work. I think Lini / Elaida connection? I now wonder about Morgase's mother who died of a fever while Lini worked for her. Only because RJ foreshadows and hides such things in plain site does such a thought even occur. Rubbish or something?

I have always been confused about the prologue to tEotW. I am fairly sure that LTT balefired himself and thus created Dragonmount. If that is the case, and I did read it correctly, wouldn't that mean that his soul couldn't be reborn?

  7. Anyone who got any thought on the last event that happened in shadows rising and the first chapters about Rand and the aiels camping in Rhuidian? In the book it is said that Moraine and the wise ones and the clan leaders, see when Rand and Asmodeus, steps out of the "skimming" portal that he and Asmodeus has traveled by from Rhuidian. Im curious myself how Rand could explain something like that, bringing the gleeman that way and also im curious how they later went to Rhuidian and started living in the city until the shaido went over the dragonwall. How did the aiel clan chiefs/wise ones react to the city in havoc after a fight, the wardings gone etc :) Anyone wh…

  8. Started by Master Norry,

In TFoH, chapter 54 (To Caemlyn) we see a flashback of Rand listening in at a conversation between the Wise Ones and Aviendha. Sorilea says that "at least Maidens could handle men in her days" and Melaine says "It would be easier if you (Aviendha) had succeeded by now". Than Amys'drops in that "She has been more succesful then they think". Than they see Rand and cut of. Now comes the obvious question: What are they talking about?

There's a lot of Wheel of Time that I don't like, think is utterly stupid, or outright dull. However, every now and then comes along a Really Awesome Scene. I just felt like sharing them. I think the scene surrounding Rand and Nynaeve while they cleanse the taint to be really awesome. All the channeling and open fighting between the two scenes. I think the scene where Mat takes control of the original Band of the Red Hand troops to be really awesome. I think the scene where Rand and Min go to talk to the rebels outside of Cairhein, Rand is hurt and has to be carried back to Cairhein to be really awesome. I think the fighting at the end of The Eye of…

Some terangreal kind of seem sentient. Here are some examples: -the terangreal that shows fears of the person entering (White Tower's 3 arches) -the terangreal that shows possible futures of the person entering (Rhuidean's 3 arches)

  12. Without leaving anything out, we can included everything that is written with narration and to avoid too much narration we can work it out through character dialog. And the rest is what you would see on screen. Jordan said, The Eye of the World would need to be 9 hours long. And he wanted to see it on HBO. Those are not his exact words, but he did say 9 hours and brought up HBO. This was before NBC wanted to do a mini-series on it. I'm curious as I am reading it again.

  13. Started by Ziggdiezan,

That Large "cable" connecting Agnior was his connecting to the true source right? i just dont get how rand saw it then but now later in the books, was it cause he used the eye of the world or something. thanks

  14. Started by Ziggdiezan,

At the end of Eye of the world im gonna quote something exactly "'He guides us.' the hand that pointed to Mat was old and shriveled to scarcely human, lacking a fingernail and with kunckles gnarled like knots in a piece of rope. Mat took a step back, eyes widening. "an old thing, an old friend, and old enemy. but he is not the one we week" I know they followed mat by the taint in the dagger. Are they talking about Mordeth when they say old friend? Or are they saying mat like Rand has be reborn many times through the ages? Thanks

  15. Started by Matcauthon999,

Does no one else agree that it would be great if in TG it was discovered that Mat could channel and not only could he channel but he was ridiculously strong, he could channel and the entirety of saidin and so in an effort to defeat the DO he does just that and that is how the bore is sealed properly. I mean clearly this can't happen for numerous reasons but it would still be brilliant. Agree?

I'm on my second read through and noticed something I've never thought of before... At the end of "The Dragon Reborn" (book 3) Mat and Juilin "rescue" Egwene, Elayne, and Nynaeve. During the first half of "The Shadow Rising" (book 4) Everyone is discussing what to do blah blah blah... My question is this: Mat obviously tells the girls about Queen Morgase and her new love, Gaebril... Even if no one suspects him as really being Rahvin, Mat must have mentioned that "Gaebril" wanted Elayne dead... Why does no one even mention going to Caemlyn to deal with this "Gaebril"? The girls run off the hunt Black Ajah, Rand and team goes to the Three-Fold-Land, and Perrin goes to the…

Who is the most dangerous? Not the best fighter, or the most powerful, but the person who would win a fight most often, in the most situations. I like Mat for this because he can win with his luck, medallion, ta'veren-ness, 1-on-1 skills, generaling skills, and he has the memories to give him the most experience.

Before Robert Jordan's death there was talk about two more prequel novels (following on New Spring (I have just finished it, amazing! I didn't even know that it existed)). Will Brandon Sanderson write these as well, after he has finished aMoL?

  19. Started by D24g0n,

Hello all, I recently found a short story on tor.com by Brandon Sanderson. The short is titled Firstborn, and found at http://www.tor.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=story&id=10489 I liked it, and it lessened my worry about these next few books a little. Enjoy, or not, it is completely up to you.

I don't know if this is allowed or if it's the right place, but, I just finished Crossroads of Twilight last night and was going to get Knife of dreams today but my local bookstore doesnt carry it. Now I'm kinda mad because I really wanted to read on. I was wondering if anyone knew of a place that I could read the book online until the bookstore can order it in for me?

  21. Started by Obligatory WOT Reference,

i was just thinking that wool really smells bad when it's wet. seeing how most of their clothes are made out of wool, when it rains they must stink. i mean you gotta wonder if the reason in tEotW that rand and mat didn't get accepted at more people's homes was that their clothes smelled of wet wool and sweat. that just seems nasty to me.

  22. just wondering what people thought the geographical changes that are coming would be, since rand is going to break the world again. post breaking, possibly the aiel having their own country, dunno where. maybe the space between tar valon and the borderlands. the borderlands might have to unify or let perrin have saldaea for his country that isn't called manetheren, but come on, if it looks like manetheren and has the same people as manetheren, it's manetheren. malkier might be back, and i think murandy's a goner. especially with people sniping off little bits of it *cough cough Andor*. Seanchan will get the entire south and west and will need to have the damane thing beat…

... any of the existing characters, who would you be? You can't change their personalities, you can't change their fate or their histories - they are what they are and no changes. Who'd you be? I'd be Berelain, I think.

  25. I just wanted to let you know of a small experience I had this week. It was quickly fixed but it really made me think of how lucky we are with our technology and medicines of today. I was stupid enough to wrestle with my boy over Memorial Day. The stupid part was not that I was playing with my boy, or the part that he is one inch taller and about 50lbs. heavier (by the way he's only 14 years old so I'm in alot of trouble), the stupid part was that I didn't take off my glasses. So, for the rest of that day, I could see clearly enough to not bump into things, but I couldn't read, or watch TV, or be on the computer, or do any paperwork. Ok, well that was …

Forgive me if this has already been covered before; i tried to look for something along the same lines but couldn't find something so i thought i should ask! This is the 3rd time I've read through the series, and I'm currently on Lord of Chaos. When Rand is in Caemlyn, and has just been bonded by Alanna, he runs back to the stables on his horse in order to travel away, and it says something along the lines of 'to travel, you must know the place you leave better than the place you arrive' I am sure this isn't mentioned any other time in any of the books, and all the male characters who travel seem to do so without much forethought for their surrounding…

  27. There have been other theories mentioned that the reason Rand is still going insane is because of the wound that he received in his side linking him to the Dark One and Moridin. This theory implies that Rand will continue to go insane until Moridin or he dies, but I do not think that will happen until the Last Battle. That part is pure conjecture on my part, but it leads me to my theory about Rand and the Last Battle and how the Tuatha'an, or rather the Da'Shain Aiel, will have an integral role in the Last Battle. In The Shadow Rising, when Rand sees the life of his ancestors at Rhuidean part of his vision included the following: "Do you know what happened to the …

There are many references about how the AS have to turn their backs on family, having the White Tower provide the family they need. I thought that a really interesting plot line would be about an AS that DOES keep in touch with relatives through the years, and the different twists and turns that would lead them through. Some of them do go through this to some degree with Warders, but family would be different.

  29. Started by Cloudz,

I am recently Re-reading EoTW and i came accross at the end of chapeter 7 when Rand askes moiraine for help with his sick dad. He says "i'll pay any price in my power if you help him. Anything." and Moiraine says "We wil speak of prices later, rand, if at all" so i dont remember if she asked him to do something in repayment for her help with his father. And if not then if/when she returns what may she ask for?

I had a thought from another thread on this board. If you could channel in the Age of Legends were you required to become Aes Sedai, know I presume it would have been considered a great honour to be Aes Sedai then, but what if someone didn't wish to become one. What if they had the spark? Would they be taught safely then leave the 'training place'.
