I'm rereading "The Fires of Heaven" and I don't understand how she can possibly know that Birgitte was Teadra, the women who foiled her plan to bring down Lews Therin in the War of Power. Birgitte lived more than 2,000 years later and who knows how many lives during those two millenia. And she's been dead for a thousand years. How could she know? ???

Okay, so there are several threads about the splitting, and Brandon's blog, etc., but I didn't see any real discussion of WHAT will be in this book. Since Brandon has said that this book is about 300k (longer than about half the books in the WoT) and has good character arcs, a good story arc, and a great climax point, etc., what do you think will be in it? Personally, in only one third of the book (of AMOL, that is), I don't see this volume taking us all the way to the start of TG. That fits with Brandon's initial title ideas of "Gathering Clouds", "Shifting Winds", and "Tarmon Gai'don". Based on these, it looks like TG will have to wait for volume three. Yet, …

I was just wondering about some things about the Fisher King and what wikipedia says about him... From Wikipedia: The Fisher King, or the Wounded King, figures in Arthurian legend as the latest in a line charged with keeping the Holy Grail. Versions of his story vary widely, but he is always wounded in the legs or groin, and incapable of moving on his own. When he is injured, his kingdom suffers as he does, his impotence affecting the fertility of the land and reducing it to a barren Wasteland. Little is left for him to do but fish in the river near his castle Corbenic. Knights travel from many lands to heal the Fisher King, but only the chosen can accomplish the f…

Alright, i dont know if anyone has mentioned this before. Mat Sounded the Horn of Valere (HoV) in TGH. then in rhuidean he goes through the ter'angreal, gets the staff, medallion and he dies. when he dies and rand brings him back to life, he is no longer bonded to the Horn of Valere (HoV) therefore anyone can sound the horn once they get their hands on it, but it does have to get to illian. Tell me what you think.

So here's what I was thinking... The following is reality in Randland as of the end of KOD: 1. Seanchan are here to stay! a. There are not enough ships to take them back even if they wanted to go; b. The farmers and the Blood are settling in; c. There is anarchy in Seanchan, the royal family is dead, so basically the Empire has been ‘moved’ to Randland; 2. Empress Tuon will not uncollar Damane! a. She knows Sul’dam can learn to channel but firmly believes women who can channel have to be collared; b. Tuon may or may not have the copies of the male a’dam. 3. Randland has Two major channeling parties: a. The White Tower, which if everything goes to Egwe…

What do you think, what's the reason for Trollocks to die when entering Gates? Do we have any information other than this fact? I always thought it has something to do with their origin - kind of flaw... But what it is - no idea.

Rolan! Perrin never even stopped to see if he was a friend or not, he just thwacked him round the head with a 10lb hammer! I honestly thought he'd let him go when Faile explained. She didnt even seem to mourn him. Also, earlier in the chapter (or maybe the chapter before, I forget), Perrin refers to Galina as 'Galina', but then later as Alyse, until Faile tells him who she was - slip up? I am loving the Mat and Tuon thing by the way, I love her slow but sure realisation that he's more than she ever thought he was; 'a lion on a hilltop' she calls him when he's perusing the maps after their reunion with the Band. I also found the tenderness which Nynaeve show…

This is a repost of a thread I started on another site about 2 years ago, but I thought that it was due for another go being as I have been arguing this argument in two different threads. I thought if I put it in one thread, people who were interested in discussing it could, and those who gave up, (and you know who you are,) wouldn't have to be bothered by it. I was reading along this morning and noticed something that I hadn't thought in the whole time that I have been reading this series. Hunters for the horn. They have been spotted in every land at nearly every point in the series. From accounts of the oath ceremony there were thousands of hunters ass…

I was wondering if anyone does this. I read more on how a word looks rather than reading it. This causes some wierd things to happen when you get the weird fantasy names. For instance its "Tanchico" instead on "Tanchio" Which is how I pronounce it in my head for years. Even when I do read it right, the way it sounds in my head is usually wrong. Thom is pronounced "Tom."Or its pronounce "Tom." I dont even want to think about how to pronounce Nyn's name. I dont really even know how to spell it really.

I'm reading book 11, and I can't remember if it's Perrin or Mat (I dont have the book with me right now) but I think it's Perrin to either Masuri or Seonid, tells her something, and she sarcastically says "Thank you, I wouldnt have known if you had not told me." She was clearly being sarcastic - how could she say this if she was under oath?

Ok, this thread is really more fun than anything else. I'm not gonna be serious about the whole topic, but why aren't there any black people that have high ranking positions, at least among the Seanchan? Is Robert Jordan a racist?????!!!!!! :o No, I'm just kidding, disregard that last question. I'm just asking why there are none, and like the only black guy is a slave...

I don't think I've ever seen anyone bring up this quote in relation to the Creator. It's spoken by Moiraine in Chapter 42 of the Eye of the World. Of course Moiraine's been wrong before, but those are some pretty heavy words. If she did not know it was impossible--implying that she has some very specific reason to not only think it unlikely, but to know it was not possible. It was already incredibly unlikely that the Creator would involve him in any way given all the other comments about him, but this does seem to set it in stone.

Come on - you can't tell me you haven't thought of it. What better way to instill chaos than to lead a ta'veren around by the nose, falling in love with you, getting yourself captured so he has to rescue you (again). Faile could certainly be an agent of Demandred or even a Forsaken (though, honestly don't know which one) with a love compulsion weave around her so that Perrin doesn't even look at another woman. This would explain why she always smells angry (being forced against her will). Sorry - just the quote someone said of "The shadown can win as long as Faile is alive" kinda tickled something.

Ok so, I think I found a hole in the black ajah story. I has been stated that it is an oath taken on the oath rod that makes AS ageless looking. It has also been stated that it takes years for an oath to make one look ageless (they sat a few times that a specific AS is young enough to not appear ageless). So, when an AS converts to the dark side after attaining the ageless look, wouldn't people notice that she doesn't look ageless anymore? Even if they take new oaths on the oath rod, wouldn't those take years to make them look ageless?

I noticed that Jordan describes clothing to a great extent in the books. I find this interesting but I am wondering about how these dresses might actually look. The way he describes the dresses makes it difficult for me to picture them. Why do the women get upset about thin and clinging dresses but seem to have never heard of a bodice or any kind of breast support, or structure under the dress? Are they wearing tents to make sure they don't 'cling to every curve'? What is thin fabric? Why are they more concerned about thin fabric being slutty than about the cut? I'm not sure when thin becomes too thin. What is a a skirt in one colour slashed with anoth…

Going through Shadow Rising again, and in the chapter titled "Traps", Lanfear enters Rand's dream of Elayne, Min, and now Aviendha in a pond in the Waterwood, but she comes completely naked and after a brief conversation she swims appears directly near him in the water "tangling arms and legs around him." She then murmurs "You cannont escape me, I will make you enjoy this so you never forget, asleep or awake." The setting starts to shift and blur before settling, Lanfear wraps herself tighter around him, and in a vague awareness he wonders that he must know her, or else "why would he be letting her do this?" Rand being Rand, he starts trying to pull away saying the whole …

So, I sat down and reread the series again (lost count years ago) this past month. Anyway, I paid attention to see if I could find Demandred. I think I did. The Band was hired to help the King of Murandy (can't remember his name) to unite it under himself. The problem? The man was supposed to be useless and a fool. Egwene even mentions that the plan seems to be too well thought out and "good" for the king. Another thing is that each of the other Forsaken have their own territory. Murandy was claimed by no one. Its a void. Much like the Borderlands, but I dont' think any of the Forsaken would be in the Borderlands. So I think either, Demand…

RJ usually had a few city/land maps in the other 11 novels, but there's still several places that we've never seen any for (Namely Tear and Ilian which always struck me as odd). Has anyone heard any word on whether RJ drew some up with the intention of adding them to AMOL, or is Brandon planning to do so (perhaps have someone else do them for him), or will it be something that is lacking in these final 3 volumes? I know RJ's time left was short and he most likely was far more concerned with actual writing, but it seems likely to me that the maps had been drawn up a long time back and he was just holding off on putting them into the books yet.

This has probably been discussed before but I just finished rereading the series for the nth time and this question is stuck in my head. Who sent all those Trollocs and Myrddraal after Rand in Tear? In KOD, during the Forsaken meeting in TAR, Moridin says that Sammael or someone disguised as him orders a very large number of Trollocs and Myrdraal into the Way. As matters stand at the moment, two things are certain about this order: 1. That individual had to have been a channeler with enough authority to order Myrdraal around; 2. That individual is strong (suicidal) enough to do something like this without Moridin’s knowledge. Even though both female and m…

Disregard the bits below. This news was breaking as I was typing :) A MEMORY OF LIGHT is definitely now two volumes and may become three. Volume I is called THE GATHERING STORM and will be published in November 2009. The following is a very rough cover idea that Tor were throwing around. It was not meant for official release but has now spread across the Internet: In addition, Barnes & Noble and Amazon.ca are also carrying the new title for the book (but not the cover), so that at least appears to be legit. Jason has confirmed Dragonmount will be spilling the official beans in a few days. UPDATE FROM TOR: Original i…

I'm back, after months and months. I have found my enthusiasm again. A few months of lacklustre attempts to read more than a few pages at a time seem to have come to an end with the battle at the Manor House. I won't pretend I know which Lord it belonged to, but it was the battle after Loial married Erith, and before Nynaeve sent Lan off to the Borderlands. By the way, I love the fact she put him 'as far away from Sheinar as it's possible to be and still be in the Borderlands'. Nyn isnt my favourite character but I have a feeling she's coming into her own now - she's Lan's wife alright. She's got a character, we've seen it right through the books and I think this mig…

Hey people! As the topic title suggests, I would be interested in buying WoT books in large print and have no idea where I can get them from or even if they exist, so am humbly asking the wonderful community of dragonmount.com if they know of any place I could procure said books? I have been on the WoT wiki, ebay, amazon and other sites of could think of to no avail. I also tried waterstones and asked a salesperson in there but they only seemed knowledgable about the latest d list celebrities biography >.< Oh, I also used the search function on the forum, but I didn't find anything.... My apologies also if this thread is in the wrong section of sub se…

Hey everyone, Just noticed on Amazon they finally added the hardcover copy of The Gathering Storm (they previously only had the Audio CD available). On top of that, they added a leatherbound edition of The Gathering Storm - suggested retail price is 250 bucks. Which sounds.... insane. I was hoping for some nicely bound (perhaps even leather) editions once the series was over, but if each book was going for $250 (or even at $166), I don't think I could afford it. I am a late-comer to the series, though. Were any of the other books published leatherbound? And lastly, I do know that an Amazon listing isn't an official announcement, but they're not often co…
