There was a thread a while back in which it was brought up past lives, while i do not recall the entire gist of the thread anymore I remember putting forth the theory that Matt's memories are in fact parts of his past lives. Someone shot that down saying that his memories were a result of the finn's giving him memories of others who had been through the terangreal (sp?). I have recently started a reread of the series for the 4th or 5th time and just reached the part where he is given the memories. Now as a bit of an explanation on how I read, i tend to not remember words and skip things almost like a speed reader so i may have missed where it was said that thes…

I have some questions about the relationship between Shaidar Haran and Alviarin... #1 why did Shaidar Haran, the hand of the DO, mark her for protection when he allowed Liandrin, Moghedien, and Cyndane to be used/abused by other forsaken, and he himself punished Mesaana? #2 Since there are other dark sisters, as well as at least one forsaken, still in the tower why does Shaidar Haran fixate so upon Alviarin. She should be just a tool to be used; but apparantly she is special somehow ? #3 Despite her many failures Alviarin has not been punished by the DO or the forsaken in any significant manner, other than the standard threats and enforced groveling. She sh…

Am I the only one who is annoyed by the announcement that aMoL will be released in not 1, not 2, but 3 volumes!? I say this not because we will have to wait longer but I don't think that RJ would have approved. I can't help but think that RJ, who was so insistent that the book be released in 1 volume would be happy about the prospect of the book being divided into 3, I feel that 2 volumes would have been too much in his opinion. Obviously I can't speak for the man, but my own feeling is that he wouldn't have approved of this move. Personally, I feel that this move is an attempt by TOR to squeeze as much as possible from aMoL and it kinda bugs me... :( What …

In light of recent events and press releases about the final book I want to push a thread away from that and relvel in the brillance that is Robert Jordans depth of writing. As we all know there is a multitude of intricacies and hidden meanings in the Wheel of Time. I want to pick up on a quote from Thom Merrilin in Chapter 20 of The Shadow Rising. He poses a series of questions about OUR age, obviously some of the answers are easy: Elephants Silk Worms Queen Elizabeth (I'm going to say Elizabeth I rather than Elizabeth II, as she controlled a larger empire) So who are Mosk and Merk? And who was Anla? Any thoughts? Cheer…

I am re-reading the WoT books on my daily commute to London. I just don't understand why Jordan had to write pretty much every female character as either nagging, catty or sarcastic. It almost feels like he had some personal dislike of women that he was venting in his books. Although it's good that there are strong female characters like Nyneave, Aviendha and Egwene, they are just constantly rude to each other and to the men around them, that it begins to be hard to root for them. I am hoping that Brandon Sanderson will write at least a couple of the girls as normal friendly human beings in the 12th book. BTW Thank-you to whoever added my youtube vids to t…

I first picked up a copy of book one in this series back in Jr. High School. Only the first 6 of the series was out back then, and after I finished the 6th one the 7th did not come out for about 5 months after. Basically, my point is I was a huge fan of the Wheel of time back then. A few days ago I decided to re-read the first 6 again and read the entire series. And yet again I find myself being a huge fan of Jordan's stories. I have 2 hobbies that I devote a decent amount of time to. Reading and video games. The last 2 years I have played mainly World of Warcraft. While playing WoW I noticed a trend that has me asking a few questions. I constantly see oth…

I am going trough some serious re-reading again (6th time around now... I know I am still a newbie compared to many of you...), and I was just thinking about the different characters, their strengths and their weaknesses. There are so many well made characters, and even though some might have their bad sides, almost everyone has an admirable side to them. Be it values, knowledge, unselfishness, resourcefulness etc etc etc. Wich is, in your eyes, the most admirable? And please, do not make this into a "supergirls and faile are stupid" thread. There is enough threads that has turned into just one of those threads... After a lot of thinking, here is my top list. …

In the book, when they're about to use the bowl of winds, there's a part about elayne looking towards where birgitte was when they were guarding the windfinders/kin/elayne and nynaeve. That's all fine and good because birgitte was elaynes warder. But it says that she notices that nynaeve is looking towards where lan is. does that mean that nynaeve secretly bonded lan? or maybe it was part of the sea folk marriage ceremony? just wondering about this because it seemed kinda odd.

I don't know about you guys, but I felt a little dissapointed that Rand didn't manage to conquer all known land by book 11. That was then, and I'm like two years older I think and I'm on my first re-read. I think he will become more successful after he 'learns to cry'. I think that he will learn that being hard isn't as good as he thought, and that after overcoming the emotional breakdown that he will become stronger and not harder. I think Rand would be better at everything (of course he wouldn't, but you know what parts I'm talking about) so he and everyone else would get better chances at defeating the DO.

I know it isn't a certainty, but it has been heavily suggesting that Noal will be the third party who accompanies Mat and Thom into the Tower of Ghengi. Recently I've been wondering why RJ chose Noal as the third party and I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps Noal aka Jain Farstrider may have had some pervious dealings with the Finns. I can't say exactly what those dealings may have been but I see it being one of two general premises: 1. Jain Farstrider somehow managed to cheat the Finns and is now a wanted man in Finnland. It could play out such that Noal/Jain willingly gives himself to the Finns in exchange for Moiraine's release. 2. Jain Farstrider is a ve…

My question is...what is it? It is a ter'angreal? Is it made with the Power? Did it exist before the AoL, or made during? It has Old Tongue inscriptions on it, so that would have some limits on the timeframe. Did the AoLers speak Old Tongue? And it's said that there are a hundred(s) of people bound to it. We never hear of more than a half-dozen. Who are the others?

One thing I have noticed from about say, the Fifth book onwards is the lack of adventure. The first four books had lots of adventure and exploration, but the newer ones just have a bunch of boring politics. I still like them, but I admit, I cringe everytime I get to a chapter with lots of politic stuff. To me, Fantasy is about adventure. I admit, I am only on Winter's Heart right now, but I have spoiled the series for myself. So, I sort of know what happens already. And it is not that that deters from my enjoyment, if anything it ames me want to read more, but I still find the politics boring. And Rand is really unlikeable. :-X

I was wondering what sort of damage a blacksmith's hammer could do in a battle. I could imagine it'd be very unwieldy and awkward to use, especially if you're swinging it as hard as perrin probably is. If he goes up against anything that can dodge his first swing, he's toast. What i picture the hammer to be like is it's got a short handle and just a massive head. The overall balance of it would be kinda off. If that's the wrong kind of hammer please, enlighten me.

Ok, the thread name is a bit misleading, but I'm cool with the name. The real question is what types of criminals there are in Randland and why, what and how they do it.

Thom Merrilin is an enigma to me. He's "just a gleeman" and yet a former Court Bard. Even a Fade can't kill him. Someone killed Asmodean; probably as a punishment for failure. I'm not trying to be deliberately stupid here; but COULD Thom Merrilin be Forsaken? I've seen the "Thom as Darkfriend" discussion, but I've never seen anyone look at this particular possibility. Certain of the Forsaken are noted for their "self-concealment" abilities... and what better way than as The Dragon's friend? If this has already been discussed to death, or if I now look really stupid, please do let me know; but I'm now on book 2 for the second time (and a 5 year gap since I last …

I was listening to The Pretender by the Foo Fighters, and one part of the song struck me as relating to Rand a little bit. I'm the voice inside your head You refuse to hear I'm the face that you have to face Mirrored in your stare I'm what's left, I'm what's right I'm the enemy I'm the hand that will take you down Bring you to your knees It just struck me as relating to Rand alot. Does anyone have any song that they think relates to WOT?

I've got a question about moiraines return. Who will be her warder? Obviously not Lan, because he's in the borderlands, plus he's gonna be nynaeve's warder. My money's on thom. He certainly seems like he can handle himself in a fight, even if he isn't Tar Valon trained. Plus there's that whole them getting married thing. I guess there is a possiblity of moiraine not having a warder after her rescue, but i doubt that is going to happen.

Sorry for my very bad and very insufficient English. I hope you can understand my English. Actually i will sent my theory this topic, but i think my theory more extensive. If wrong i apologize. http://forums.dragonmount.com/index.php/topic,40697.0.html * Several SPOILERS alert (including KoD)* *(A Crown of Swords)(Lord of Chaos)(The Dragon Reborn)(The Path of Daggers)(Knife of Dreams) etc. * My theory is little bit complex. I think Lion Sword is not Elayne. Dedicated spear is not Aviendha. She sees beyond is not Min. And "and he who is dead yet lives" is not Rand. Gawyn is First Prince of the Sword. For this reason Lion Sword is Gawyn. …

Hi All. I am currently reading COS and have just got to the bit where the Whitecloak fortress is attacked by the Seanchan. I got the idea from reading it that Morgase could tell when the power was being used? Is this correct? If that is the case, would that mean she can use it (even on a small level)? Also, do you reckon that is why everyone thinks she is beautiful - perhaps she has started taking on a very low-level agelessness? I would be interested in your thoughts.

This is probably obvious to most of you but I cant get my head around it. Every time Cadusane meets an Aes Sedai she asks if they took part in "That disgrace twenty years ago" or something similar, what is she refering to? Tried searching the forums but couldnt find anything about it. ;D

I know Thom is apparently just an old gleeman with an interesting past. but I keep on remembering a scene where Thom is in a court in Barashta. Now correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Barashta a city before the trolloc wars??? I don't think this ever happened but I wanted to be sure. DOES ANY ONE REMEMBER A SCENE WHERE THOM IS IN A COURT IN BARASHTA????????

Has anyone heard if the 3 books of the Memories of Light triology will be available in hardback form? I have all the books in hardback already and am hoping they will still be published in hardback form. I thought I saw where they were going to be released in quality paperback, but did not see a mention of hardback form. Anyone hear anything one way or the other?

Hey i noticed something while reading LoC. When the wondergirls are milking moghidean for information on new weaves, she says that she knows something called rolling earthfire, but doesn't know the weave. at the end of the book at dumai's wells taim says something like "Asha'man, rolling ring of earth and fire". are these the same things, and if so, how does taim know them?

I don't think that Lanfear got stilled/burnt out then healed!!! It just doesn't seem right. She would've become much weaker in the Power than she did and it doesn't explain the new body! And who Healed her? I can only think of two possibilities 1) She died! The DO gave her a new body and punished her by making her weaker in the Power and a servant of Moridin's (hence the name Cyndane) 2) We know that those strange people in that ter'angreal can give you gifts, but you must always pay the price! So ( and I know it sounds pretty far-fetched) maybe they had something to do with her change? What I do know is that Moiraine is still trapped in there, and that Mat…
