Thought I'd get this started with choice quotes by Mr. Sanderson and my short thoughts on each! What do you all think about these decisions now that we know the nitty gritty details of how AMoL being split into 3 novels came about! I'm still for it and very happy that we're getting one novel in Nov and more to come. ~Splitting AMOL by Brandon Sanderson~ Exactly how I feel! I want to see this done right and complete no matter how many novels it takes! Yes, I too believe that RJ would've split the novel also regardless of what he had said before. There we go, not profitable and takes up lots of space on shelves or no…

Hi Guys, I'm doing a re-read and I'm on The Shadow Rising right now. And I just came to the point where Aram picks up the sword and asks to learn it. Reading that, I suddenly remember that he is killed in a later book. I think by Perrin, not quite positive. (if someone could refresh my memory on that) Anyway, my question is is Aram a darkfriend? I don't think I was ever really sure on that...

Do you guys think that Randland would ever progress beyond the feudal state? Do you think something similar to capitalism and communism would would ever form? Maybe something else like social democracy? Discuss.

I've encountered some confusion over the nature of what the bodyswap theory is in a couple of threads and figured I'd repost it... sorry for those of you who have read it, just ignore this thread, lol. The body swap theory is based on my attempt to address the issue of confliction of prophecy. People had come up with any number of explanations that addressed and answered individual prophecies, but the problem was that there were numerous prophecies that addressed the death of Rand. Together, they established a sequence of requirements for that incident. The complete list of those prophecies that are relevent are as follows. Which possibly connects to.…

Well I was just reading through the books again for the nth time, and I stumbled across the shadar logoth fight scene and noticed something that didn't look right...when rand opens the gateway to shadar logoth, it mentions him seeing the sun through the gateway and the broken roof of a palace, yet not even half a page later it mentions mashadar creeping out of one of the buildings...I couldn't reconcile the 2 statements since mashadar can only come out at night, and he wrote the rest of the scenes as if it might be night, but then again, am I reading it wrong or is this an error? maybe this has been discussed already I dunno...just wanted some clarification...

In tSR and tFoH there is a wagon train. I can't remember anybody's name. I also can't remember who the aiel darkfriend was that almost stabbed Mat with an Illianer dagger.

Something occurred to me that makes me wonder if perhaps the title "A Memory of Light" is a reference to Galad. Notwithstanding that his name means "Light" in Sindarin, Galad is also the only one who remembers what the Children of the Light originally stood for. (Or at least he was when we saw him last; he may have reminded some of the other Whitecloaks between now and then...) It probably means nothing, but I thought I'd share that thought.

What do you think are some of the WORST possible surprises we may get in aMoL? Try to focus on at least somewhat plausible plot twists or revelations. I'll give a couple examples. Finding out Asmodean was killed by a grey man... Not likely, but would be just terrible. Finding out that Taim is Be'lal. I just can't take another returning forsaken. I'm sure you have some other potential plots or explanations that you are dreading.

in TDR when Moiraine and the group are in Illian following Rand to Tear Moiraine inexplicably decides to leave Lan behind while she scouts Illian. When next we see her she states that Samael is in charge of Illian. Question #1: Why on Earth would she EVER tell Lan to wait while she did his job ??? Question #2: How could She Possibly recognize Samael, assuming she was able to actually come in contact with one of the coucil of 9 at the late hour they were there he had been in stasis since the age of legendswell before She was born ??? She could not possibly have recognized them ??? Question #3: Earlier in TGH Verin meets up with Rand and Ingtar and tells them…

"The Light blind you, Ba'alzamon! This has to end!" IT IS NOT HERE. It was not Rand's thought, making his skull vibrate. I WILL TAKE NO PART. ONLY THE CHOSEN ONE CAN DO WHAT MUST BE DONE, IF HE WILL. "Where?" He did not want to say it, but he could not help himself. "Where?" The haze surrounding him parted, leaving a dome of clear, clean air ten spans high, walled by billowing smoke and dust. Steps rose before him, each standing alone and unsupported, stretching up into the murk that obscured the sun. NOT HERE. I would summarize my argument by saying that the DO is trying to convert Rand to him in this passage. Some say this is the creator, but in al…

Note: There have been enough "Questions about Moiraine" threads that I can't track down whether any of them dealt with this. If someone knows a thread where this has already been discussed, please link to it. Near the beginning of "The Great Hunt," Moiraine thinks to herself that she cannot be alone too long with Siuan, because Siuan might realize that Moiraine is keeping information from her. What information was Moiraine concealing, and why?

So i'm sitting here stewing about this "leaked news" about AMOL being released in 3 volumes, over 3 years, only in paperback, and the cover art sucks, etc etc etc. soooo...... TOR planned on making an announcement next week about these "rumors". Could that announcement have come on.........Wednesday??? ......Wednesday, April 1st???? APRIL FOOLS DAY???? If you really stop to think about it, given everything we've been lead to believe up until this point with the release of AMOL, it really is set up as a proper good April Fools Joke that could be shortly followed by a mind-blowing and wonderful announcement that the whole book will be ready fo…

I've always wondered whether you could be a df and channel and not be a dreadlord. In TGH it says that you have to channel to be a dreadlord, but i wouldn't trust some of the so called aes sedai to command trollocs or fades. i can just see a brown/black during a battle say ooh look at this rare specimen of a so and so.....

Towards the end of the series we see Shaidar Haran mark Alviarin out and give her his protection from Mesaana. If Shaidar Haran is an extension of the Dark One, would that make her a new Chosen if she had the spine to stand up and take it? Or was there a required ritual? I recall somebody taking Asmodean to the Bore to become one, but the Dark One might not have been out the way he is with Shaidar Haran.

I love Bela. If you look at any character, and do the math, only one has been in every hot zone from book one till book 11. Bela. If I were Mat, Perrin, or Egwene, I would just hang out and play cards with Bela. Bela, the old long haired nag, who outlives all warhorses, will be the one who picks Rand up on the side of Shayol Ghul and gets him out of there.

early in Chapter 5 of TSR about 4 or 5 pages into the chpater Nynaeve is having a conversation with Avienda where she makes the following statement: "Stilling is not a thing anyone would choose to study, you understand," Nynaeve continued."It is generally accepted to be irreversable. What makes a woman able to channel cannot be replaced once it is removed, any more than a hand that has been cut off can be Healed back into existence." now we know that stilling can be healed, Nynaeve discovered it herself. Since Rand has lost a hand in KOD, is it possible that RJ used this sentence as a bit or foreshadowing? is it possible that RJ intended us to look back at this…

This may sound crazy, but what if the Creator had at least two parts? One that exists that outside the world, and another that could enter the world. The most likely candidate for that second part would probably be the Dragon/Dragon-Reborn.

I guess this topic is for idle speculation only unless there is information about this time that I dont know of. During the time of madness the ogier let the male aes sedai use their steddings as a sanctuary. According to moiraine there are different opinions if this was a good thing or not. Some considered it to prolonged the breaking causing more and unecessary damage. While others, like Moiraine, considered to have saved the world from complete destruction if all men had gone insane at once. Should we take Moiraine's opinion as the truth here or can we form our own thoughts and ideas? I dont quite know the number of male channelers at this time and I doubt Mo…

I've tried searching this site (Hi I'm new!) and Googling and checked the WoT encyclopedia for this answer. In the 8th chapter (of a Crown of Swords), Egwene slips on the adam bracelet and it goes on to say how Marigan is in the camp, is tired/in pain, etc. But in the Lord of Chaos, Moghedian escaped. I don't know if it's because my copies of these books are old and they've been edited since..? Or if later in the chapter/story it's explained..? If the latter is true, I will be rightfully embarrassed for not continuing on, but there's no way Moghedian would put the bracelet back on after escaping. I've read these books once before, years ago, so I c…

I've ran a search for this topic and sheesh the list was long but not found. I know it existed once a million years ago but the closest to it was "How to discover....Messana" which was posted in nearly four months ago so, unless it's been discovered already here's my take on it. RJ gave us two very distinct hints at this. She taps her lips thoughtfully and is wearing a bronze dress with a Tairen Maze hem. Well a few Aes Sedia have been mentioned as tapping their lips but only one was mentioned wearing the described dress but no it can't be her she was stilled. Leane Sharif who by the way thoughtfully taps her lips as well. I thought I had a little Ah-Ha going on ther…

In the prologue of the EotW Ishy says that they have fought the same battle countless of times, of course he may have lied, bad guys have a tendecy to do so. But if that battle has been fought a thousand times who was the first Dragon? And if LTT wasnt the first dragon then why is he the one representeing the Dragon's soul in Tel'arnhiod? Where the other dragons a bunch of cowards and didnt suit the Tel'anrhiod's demands? And lets say that LTT was the firs dragon and this battle is only fought for the 2nd time, then where does the knowledge of "the same people being reborn" come from? Well that is something I have been thinking of...god I hate thinking. -Mo…

Ive been gone a while so this may have been brought up. So forgive me not going through the several thousand posts since my last visit :P Does anyone think it is at all possible for the prophecy where Rand "dies then lives again" (rough wording but whatever) That Rand dies. Mat blows the horn, And Rand comes back as a hero? just a thought..

I'm also thinking that this will explain things like the disappearance (Death?) of Asmodean. And though I've spent many hours reading threads of different theories I haven't quite seen this one yet, and it draws from info that we get from the KoD. I'm sure that there are a lot of wholes that would need to be filled but here goes. First we'll get the facts that we know 100% out of the way. 1.) Moiraine and Lanfear disappear into the doorway to the fox world together, In Cairhien 2.) Asmodean dies/disappears later on the same day, in Caemlyn 3.) Before Moiraine "died" she wrote 2 letters, one to Rand and one to Thom/Matt. The letter to Rand said that she had…

Hey guys. Do you think that the first Channeler was Male or Female? Or do you think that it was discovered at the same time by both a man and a woman? How powerful do you think s/he was? I know there is not technically a "first" Channeler due to time being cyclical, but for our purposes I am talking about the person who first discovered it during this cycle of the Wheel.

In the Great Hunt, Rand accidentally transports himself, Loial and Hurin to another world using the Portal Stone. Lanfear or Selene transports herself as well and sets him up. The point is, how does she know which world and which place he is in?
