One of the things I just don't like about WoT is the receycled bad guys. Why isn't dead, dead? I know this is just a problem of perspective from my point of view - too much black and white with no gray. And of course it is Jordan's world. But was anyone else disappointed when a 'dead' bad guy got recycled with a new gender and/or abilities? Maybe most of the folks here actually like the recycling.

And where do they hang out? I'm just thinking from a practical provision standpoint. Trollocs eat meat. Don't think it was mentioned in the first 11 books that they have cattle ranches. And raids into the borderlands have all but ceased. So what are they eating? Maybe they're eating all the other shadowspawn - which is why the blight is so quiet. It just doesn't seem like there could be millions of them - unless they learned to subsist on rocks...

Is it possible that rand will start TG? I think it would be a good twist. Him going for the DO at some point as a preemptive strike in the hopes of avoiding an all out war.

"If need be one close to him will die plainly at your order" Rahvin says this to Sammael about Rand. How could they ensure that one close to Rand would die i mean they havnt been very succesful so far at killing off rands inner circle. Is there a darkfriend in that circle who would be willing kill someone close or to die themselves on the orders of a forsaken? If so who could it be. On the other hand they could be talking about mehlindra trying to kill Mat? this seams likely but they had no way of knowing that she would be able to kill mat (and she couldnt)so it made me wonder is there a darkfriend in rands inner circle and if so who could it be? Any ideas?

... back at the White Tower - If the timeline at http://www.users.bigpond.com/steven_cooper/tl1000.htm#book11 is correct, Egwene got her summons to attend Elaida "tonight" three days before Perrin freed Faile and two days before Rand got his hand blown off. Unless we are going to miss that meeting/attendance, that should mean that there will be a minimum of 20 days of overlap between Knife of Dreams and A Memory of Light. Galad and his 7000 Whitecloaks were already very close to Perrin two days before he rescued Faile. In the five days that Tuon took to get back to Ebou Dar, where did Mat and the Band get to? Since there isn't any indication of an…

If the main battle of Tarmon Gaidon will be in the blight, what role will the Seanchan play, given that they are mainly in the south and west? There will be battles everywhere, so will the Seanchan be a major force in those battles? We already know what the damane can do, but how about the Gardeners and s'redit (sp?)

I just finished Winter's Heart and I am confused about the fight between Padan Fain and Rand. At the end of the fight there seems to be an illusion of some sorts, with the two people that Padan killed coming back. The thing that confuses me is, why or how did that illusion come. I just started Crossroads of Twilight, so if the answer is in that, please just say to read on. Thanks ahead for any help on this.

  8. Out of all of the Talents that should have been passed down over the years, it seems that ANY Aes Sedai would have wanted to remember how to Travel. They remembered how to make a tiny flame to light their way. Most of them can blow out a candle from across the room. Healing is a lot more difficult to learn, apparently, because few Aes Sedai can heal but most are catching on quickly to Traveling. Why did they not pass it down? The Forsaken remember how to Travel. They have rules of etiquette to follow (send a warning signal ahead). They think nothing of it. It must have been common among channelers during the Age of Legends. Was it reserved only to the elite-o…

If I remember rightly, it is possible to mimic the Ta'veren effect with the Power. Was it Ishamael/Moridin that mentioned it? I have been wondering when/if we will see this used. How great would it be if Rand and Moridin fought, and Moridin duplicated the effect of Ta'veren during said battle? Here's a crazy thought. We all know that Osan'gar and Demandred have supposed to have been watching Rand, however we haven't seen a glimpse of Demandred for a long time. Sammael also mentioned that "the events to the south" sounded like Demandreds doing. What if Demandred is behind Masema and the Dragonsworn? What if Demandred has been using the Ta'veren weave on Masema …

Hi guys, haven't posted in a while, but since I'm rereading the WoT (On the Lord of Chaos) So hi again =) Why is that, with the few exceptions like Min, all the women in the WoT treat the men as if they are incapable of doing anything themselves? The fact is, that while some of them (Nynaeve, Elayne, ect) have done important things (Recovering the Bowl of Winds, helping Rand cleanse Saidin) The most important stuff was done by the men. Rand dealt with mosts of the forsaken, cleansed the taint, established schools, and is more powerful than any female channeler alive. I mean, look at the White Tower, they pride themselves on making all leaders of every nation …

In book 4, Moiraine accosts Thom and insists that he ought to go to Tanchico with Nyn/Ely. She says outright that HE WILL SRUVIVE TANCHICO. She says: "I will see you again." Quite obviously, she got this from the Finns. But, just how far did she see? We may assume that she knew nothing of having to fight Lanfear till she passed through the rings. If she said that she would see him again, does that mean her rescue will be 100% successful?

What did Mesaana mean when she said in the Lord of Chaos coffee hour that, there must have been a trap for men around the great holding else Demandred would have had his, meaning a sa'angreal and launched himself at al'Thor. I would think she meant Callandor but that is in the heart of the stone not the great holding. Does she mean callandor or could there be another male sa'angreal there?

Forkroot is only supposed to work on people who can channel right? So how are ronde macura and luci knocked out by it in the tFoH? Are we to assume these two could channel or is it a mistake on rjs part? If ronde could channel how did the seanchan not discover this and capture her as a damane when she told them about forkroot? Could someone please answer this or link to where it has been discussed already pls.

  15. Started by RAND AL THOR,

Ainor and Balthamel apparently found the eye by tracking the evil of Shadar Logoth that Mat carried. However, isn't this evil to be exactly the opposite of the DO's own evil? We practically have 3 different evils in WOT: The DO, Shadar Logoth and the Finns. Though the Finns are referred to as evil, I don't know what to make of that but that isn't relevant here. We have 2 examples of how the DO's evil opposes the evil of Shadar Logoth: 1) Cleansing. Rand's whole scheme was based on this opposition of the two evils. 2) The wound. The two wounds pulse against each other and keep each other at bay or something like that. So how could Aginor have tracked an …

It seems so many of you hate the women in this book. You hate them with a passion. I for one, read the books, and, quite frankly, agreed. Then in the last two months I listened to the audiobooks. The Audiobooks make everything so much richer, so much more detailed. I think we lose a lot of the book but reading and rushing through, honestly, pick up one of the audiobooks and listen to it. Robert Jordan himself said that he listened to the audiobooks instead of re-reading his books because he wanted to see how things came together. And as for the women, I'll say this now: My favorite characters are in this order: Moiraine, Perrin, Mat, Ny…

  17. I was doing a rereading of The fires of Heaven and it kind of bothered me how Rahvin was putting Graendal down by how she "wastes" the power on her "pretties" how she uses them up to quick and other things. To me, I don't think so. Graendal is a very smart lady and I can't see her 'wasting' something that is beneficial. Obviously, she is still alive, unlike Rahvin, and she's not been taken over, like Moghdien, so is there more to her than meets the eye? Is she wasting, or using the power differently than it shows? Your comments please...

  18. Hi all, This is my first post and firstly let me say how fascinating some of your comments have been. It really has enriched my experience of the WOT series. Just wanted to know if anyone has had any thoughts as to why RJ would introduce Elayne's pregnancy at this late stage of the story and is there any speculation as to the intention? If aMoL is the last book then these children can't possibly play a role in their own rights. There's no time for character development unless there's as a chapter or two dedicated to events years down the track. It's even plausible they won't even be born by the end of it. So why has RJ introduced them? I know there must be…

  20. First of all I would like to say hello to everyone. This is only my second post and I thought I would share a few of my thoughts. I’m extremely new to the WOT series. I just discovered the series a few months back and I’m already reading through for my second time… lol I’m up to the Dragon Reborn in my second reading. I’m pretty sure many of these have been mentioned before, but I thought I would share some thoughts I had. I’m curious to know a few things. I think it’s possible that Mat and Francis Marion The Swamp Fox may have a lot in common. What do you think? The White Tower… Padget Thomas Barracks at The Citadel? Once all male… Now integrated with male and fema…

i have read all these books a couple of times in the past and was looking at the EoW and had a couple questions. When everyone is at the actual eye it seems to be explained that the last battle will happen there pg 746 paperback; or does it happen in Shayol Ghul? i understand battles in these books can go anywhere but has there ever been any other mention of the eye? Also, when ba'alzamon and Rand are speaking ba'lazamon refers to Jain Farstrider not being free of him (who i believe is Noel) and sent to the Ogier. i never fully trusted noel but has there been any significant written concerning jain/noel and the ogier? thank you for your time

I was in my forth or fith reread of the series, before I noticed the name of the Inn where Alanna bonds rand in LOC,Culain's hound. Which is a kind of obvious refrence to Cuchulainn ,the greatest Irish hero. Its kind of funny really since my Cocaloch is a deliberate misspelling of Cuchulainn. I sure this has been mentioned before, but I felt like bringing it up.

  24. For some reason, Moiraine's death just came as too shocking for me. For one thing, almost no one dies in the series, and she was one of the most interesting characters I'd ever seen. And when Moiraine killed Lanfear, it wasn't until the cleansing of Saidain that I accepted that she could be dead. Let me explain: 1. Moiraine was too important. 2. They only ventured into the Ter'angreal, and as I recall it was possible to escape, what if she knew what the conditions were inside and she asked for three things. Maybe she would ask for a new body? 3. On the other hand, Lan could no longer sense Moiraine. Maybe that was because she was in one of those bubbles outside t…

One thing has been bothering me a bit. Why after Dumi Wells and all the other crap that Elaida did, why didn't Rand give Public support to Egwene? It would have weakened Elaida's position in claiming to be Amerlyn and strengthened Egwene. Plus as such it would have made Elaida's proclomation that rulers could only approach Rand through her and the tower moot. Thoughts? [glow=green,1,500]Darth_Andrea[/glow]

The deck seems to be stacked against the Dark one at Tarmon Gaidon: The Dark One: Himself Black Ajah Renegade Ashaman Dark Friends Shadow Spawn Forsaken The Light: The Dragon Aes Sedai - greatly out number Black Ajah (I think) Dragon-loyal Ashaman - I don't know what percent this would be Borderlanders, all the other armies (Tear, Cairhein), Aiel, and even the Seanchan don't tolerate darkfriends/shadowspawn Just a handful of Ashaman and/or linked Aes Sedai can handle tens of thousands of shadowspawn Ogier Seafolk The Kin Lan and the Malkier Doesn't seem like much hope for the dark one, but I'm sure there are many things I'm not…

Which one do you think is better. Why? Do you think they are the right people for Mat and Perrin.

How does a non channeler kill a Darkhound? I always figured we'd have come across this problem before aMoL, but there really isn't a major encounter of a group of non-channelers attacked by Dark Hounds. They're really problematic in that they are almost as dangerous as the gholam, but there's many of them. 1) Their saliva is poisonous, and kills really quickly. Mat had one drop on his arm and it would have killed him in minutes if he hadn't had healing. 2) They're tough to bring down. Perrin put three of the Three Rivers arrows from a Three Rivers bow into one before it fell. 3) They cover a lot of ground. In tDR, they were as fast as the horses that the par…

Ji'e'toh is the greatest honor system ever created and I think we all agree in this area so far. When I see it in the books I almost wish it was constitutional, a daily part of our lives. We could learn so much and it would bring back the GOOD world out of us. I mean, look at the Aiel, I love the way they behave. Ji'e'toh is their greatest - Jordan's greatest - gift to his readers, all humanity and the world.
