In order to find the Green Man, there had to exist some "great need". Moraine apparently had been to see the Green Man prior to the visit in Eye of the World that we read about. Anybody know what her first visit was about?

They're two of the most powerful female chanellers in WoT (I think) and some people on this forum have said that they're just about as powerful as is possible, but how do they compare to some of the powerful male chanellers? Like Rand and Morridin?

Hey everyone. This is my first post, so be nice to me. I apologize if anything I post here is a rehash of a previous conversation. I did a word search for "Aelfinn," "Eelfinn" and "Snakes and Foxes" and never came across much in terms of the physical reality of the world(s) the Snakes and Foxes live in. I have a crazy hairbrained theory that goes as follows... When Matt enters the doorway in Tear he meets the Snakes. Before he comes to the three Snakes that answer his questions he thinks the "hallway" he is in has no straight sides to it except for the floor. Outside of the windows he sees strange plants and tall silver spires that seem to somehow move from…

On page 515 in book 2, Verin lays her hands on the Ogier who got caught by Machin Shin inside The Ways... She then jerks back and says he is empty.... How could she tell anything about him like that if they are inside a stedding where she cant even fell the true source, much less channel anything.

I was listening to some of the older podcasts last night and I noticed that everyone seems to believe that Rand's dizziness and double vision and all that when he siezes/ releases Saidin is related to prolonged exposure to the taint. I have a different idea. The dizziness is a result of the meeting of balefire in CoS. If you think about it, it all makes sense. The taint drives men mad, not sick. Sickness is not a precursor to insanity. Also, and more importantly, think of the effects of balefire itself. It erases things in the pattern BEFORE they die. If a weave was balefired, then the weave would've ceased to exist before it was struck. Balefired strongly en…

OK so i know that the entire series is based on Norse mythology, and I know that each character has a part to play in TG but which bit of the jigsaw do you think each of them make up? I was reading the thread about 'A Bit Like a Family' and I thought you know, its true. Each group / team has people who are strong at some things and weak at others, but alltogether they complement each other. I see the main characters as a team; Rand Mat Perrin Egwene Nynaeve Moiraine (regardless of her going through the door with Lanfear) Lan Elayne Min Aviendha Verin and they're all working towards the same thing (TG) but what is their role within the t…

In my umpteenth reread through the series, I am up to Crossroads of Twilight and the part where the Aes Sedai feel the cleansing of the taint being performed and start discussing what to do. Did their reaction strike anyone else as amazingly cowardly? There was so much discussion about how to protect themselves by making larger circles, but no discussion at all about what "the forsaken" were doing or how they could come up with a counter-"weapon" These people pride themselves on being the leaders in the fight against the shadow for 3000 years, but all they ever seem to care about is their own hide. Where is their feeling of urgency for fighting the war against the…

Just what the topic suggests... Which would win?: A large stone(metallic, if necessary) 'turned' and set up at the black tower as a spinning deathgate target? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? "Hey, I'm just saying for the sake of saying."

In the Knife of dreams Mat is attacked after leaving an inn (Tuon thinks it was an "Hell"). After the fight, Thom tells everybody that he is getting old and starting seeing things that can not be. But that he will forget it becouse he is getting old. It appeares to be something about Selucia. But what is it? It is written as something important but is not mentioned afterwards. Does anybody have a clue what happened? (Mat whas fighting and did not see it...)

Whether you believe Semirhage's plan was to be captured or not, she is still a prisoner with Rand and assuredly has either a backup plan or continuation of the main plan with her captivity. Obviously part of it is to bring up doubts about Rands sanity within his inner circle, as she starts planting the seeds immediately after her capture. I was thinking that perhaps there will be something more as well. The two biggest rivals for Semirhage, and for that case Demandred and Mesaana as well, are Rand and Moridin. They all want to be Nae'Blis, and with those two around they don't have much of a chance. I think that Semirhage will somehow give Rand information or…

During the books several Aes Sadai speak of some "nasty business" or some such where men were gentled without the proper protocol. They were not taken to the tower or given a proper trial, they were just gentled on the spot. I know Thom's nephew was gentled, but was he gentled in this way? I never put that together in my mind, but I may be wrong. Do we know the sisters that were involved in doing this? I assume most were reds.

Or will they wimp out and do what Aes Sedai normally do; i.e. sit on their butts and do nothing? It would be nice to see some Aes Sedai finally show some emotion and nationalism, and act like a normal human being.

Qucik question, this has always confused me...If there is an infinite amount of Saidin, how did Rand manage to cleanse it all with his 'filter' method?? Surely even with both Choedan Kal, not matter how much Rand channelled he could not possibly cleanse all of Saidin?? Opinions/answers anybody?

I just reread aCoS. There is a lot of tension in this book between Mat and the wondergirls. When in Ebo dar, Mat goes clubbing with Birgitte and explains his problems and frustrations with her. Birgitte and Aviendha then work together to force Nyneave and Elayne to apologize and recognice they have toh versus Mat. Then Mat goes like, yeah, it was no biggy wich makes Nyneave and Elayne even more furious, together with their problems that the other AS and the Kin don't recognice them as AS,.... The thing is, I just thought that RJ wrote this so good and comical. This is something I really like about tWoT. I was wondering if anybody else experienced any other scenes as…

Chesmal bragged that she manipulated the Red Ajah into murdering the Amyrlin, Sierin Vayu, before Sierin could order her arrest. Given how much favor that Sierin held the Red in, this seems very odd. She appointed Duhara and Amira has her Keeper and Mistress of the Novices, both Reds. It's also rumored that many were surprised when she chose the Gray instead of the Red. Now she did reign with a heavy hand, but not nearly as bad as Elaida. She held very Red views about men, firing all the male clerks. What could have Chesmal said to convince Red Sisters to kill her? The only thing I can think of is that she claimed Sierin would expose the Vileness. She was renowned f…

:D Knife of Dreams: A Short Path "The a'dam can also be used to give pleasure, as a great reward," Tuon told Joline, ignoring the hammering fist behind her. Joline's lips parted, and her eyes grew very wide. She swayed, and the rope-suspended table swung as she caught herself with both hands to keep from falling. If she was impressed, though, she hid it well. She did smooth her dark gray skirts once after she was upright again, but that might have meant nothing. Her face was all Aes Sedai composure. Hey people, This has puzzled me for a while, and was hoping people could put some light into it. After Rand and ingtar go after the horn, the sisters go cross country to the river for tar valon Moraine and Verin leave at the same point, verin to find rand and co. and morraine to arafael. Now when Verin catches up with Perrin and Ingtar, she says "Morraine sent me" I am pretty damn sure that morraine says in arafael that she doesnt send verin? Am i wrong, cause if i am not then this makes Verin a darkfriend, and i dont want her to be!!

I feel it's high time the Green Ajah was mocked as it deserves. For, oh, how the mighty have fallen. During the Trolloc Wars, Green sisters were at the forefront of nearly every battle, fighting shadowspawn and Dreadlords. Since then they've limited themselves to going on random quests and "entertaining" their warders in their Tower apartments. Oh, and waiting for the Last Battle of course. ::) That was 2,100 years wasted. If Captain-General was anything but an empty title, the Green would keep 3/4ths of their members in the Borderlands at all times; with the rest at the Tower, teaching and helping run the bureaucracy. I mean, seriously, it's only common sense.…

Couldn't Rand go into Tel Aran Rhiod in the flesh, imagine a new hand and cleanse his wounds then simply step out? Birgette's arrow seemed to materialize once it was thrown out of TAR, and while fighting Rhavin, Lews Therin tried taking control of Rand's body by trying to transform it, so I don't see why he couldn't "fix" his body like this.

I know there is a weave to hide your ability to channel, but is there one that can make you seem weaker than you really are? What got me thinking about this is Masaana. We know she's in the White Tower, but wouldn't she be stronger than any of the Aes Sedai there? So she'd kinda stand out unless there was a weave to make her seem weaker or maybe she's masked her ability completely and is posing as a clerk or servant? Thoughts please...

In my recent reread, I was struck by a the passage where the Reds are talking about Saml al'Seen and the other "children" at the Black Tower. Now the way Jordan operates, this strident denial stood out to me like a flashing neon sign. I don't think the Red's are going to get many takers, if any from within Taim's crew. They are the kind of men who want to be in control, and it would be risky for a darkfriend to be connected like that to someone who walks in the light. I think young men like Saml are the only ones who will accept the Red's proposition.

I first had the thought for this thread while reading the "The Shadow Comes to Tar Valon," thread, and thought that it would be fun to post our favorite pet theories sans argument. For those threads that just can't be agreed upon, I think that we should just post our predictions, no argument, and wait for RJ to prove or disprove them. I'll go out on a limb for my favorite goofy theories, how about you? We can all meet back here after aMoL for a big "I told you so," session.

About the units of length: 10 inches = 3 hands = 1 foot 3 feet = 1 pace 2 paces = 1 span 1000 spans = 1 mile 4 miles = 1 league. I cant understand...10 inches obviously doesnt equal 1 foot. So which is the distance in real life. Are 10 inches in Randland actually 10 inches in the real life, or is 1 foot in Randland 1 foot in real life?

What actually marks the end of one age and the start of the next? We have sketchy information about the end of the Second Age or the Age of Legends...basically, the male AS physically ravaged the land until nothing was the same as it had been. At some point, which differs depending upon the calendar being used, the old age ended and the new one, the Third Age or the present age, started. Rand has already caused great upheaval among the Aiel, Carheinin, Tairens, Illianers, Sea Folk/Amalayans, and Caemlyners. He has also had lesser/indirect impact on the Seanchan, Ebou Daris, borderlanders, and Tanchicans. The only place not directly affected that we know of is…

Does anyone have any theories about the pool of Saidin at the Eye of the World and its purpose. All of the male channelers present were sucking it up as fast as they could. Aginor was healed by drawing on it, but were they actually increasing their strength by drawing on it? Why was everyone so anxious to get at it? Was its purpose literally to hide the Horn of Valere and the dragon banner until the Dragon came again?
