  1. I've been reading the books over again and I noticed an interesting threat that comes up over and over again. Each time a forsaken enters Shayol Ghul, they explicitly state that it is forbidden to channel there. They state that the penalty is death. My question is why? Is the DO afraid of channeling? Is there something in the OP that maybe scares him? Regardless, how does this "fear" affect Rand and his quest to defeat Shaitan? Anybody know?

I read a bit and ran across what appears to be a bit of a contradiction. Specifically about Amalasan and the war of the 2nd Dragon. He was captured by Aes Sedai and dragged to Tar Valon. Then it is mentioned that his followers managed to fight and shed blood in the inner courtyard of the White Tower itself in sight of him before being repulsed back and defeated. What I don't get about this is simply; This was arguably during the height of Tar Valon's power. Also what could possess normal soldiers to go on such a suicidal mission to assault the White Tower. So I can presume he must have been beloved and had an inspirational personality that instead of flocki…

What if this whole Harry Potter Incident happened with A Memory of Light. DO you think you would download it, or would you be paitient and wait 5 days and read it as a hard copy. I think i would wait, i mean seriously if you can wait a few years, then why not a few days extra. Sry if this is the wrong place to post this.

Ok, I'm doing a reread of the whole series, because when I originally read it I didn't know about this forum for my questions. I eventually forgot all about them until now. I'm basically at the end of the first. When Rand sees his mother being tortured, was that really her soul? I think it was, because she sighed in relief when he saved her and Ishy seemed tacken aback to say the least.

I know this is a stupid question, but I am usually really good at imagining things in my mind - and I can never picture this one. What does a mirrored stand lamp look like? Can someone help with a description?

  7. Started by Safia al-Maaz,

I am rereading the series and I was wondering... Would bonding a male channeler have any effect on the madness they contract from the taint? In the AoL they didn't have bonds, so they didn't have another person in their heads. Do you think that would effect how a person acts towards their bondee if they go mad? Do you think they would remember who the person was? Rand has described the bond as the most natural thing in the world, as if it had always been there, as if life had always been that way. If he went mad, would he remember that hurting one of his women would hurt him as well? Would their emotions effect his actions? Feel free to tear this apart, i…

In my opinion I have found Ishamael, alias Elan Morin Tedronai, to be the most interesting of the characters in the WoT series, even though we rarely see anything of him. However he interests me deeply. Since apparently it is him that will lead the forces of the Dark One. Elan Morin Tedronai was originally a philosopher and theologian during the Age of Legends. He was in the prime of maturity: good looking with fine cut clothes and dark, penetrating eyes and a commanding presence; his voice had the air of both reason and command. He was often too esoteric for popular appeal. He wrote many books including "Analysis of Perceived Meaning," "Reality and the Absence of Meaning…

I want to do a 3D version of the White Tower in Maya (for anyone who knows what that is) and a little bit of Tar Valon, for the calender competition. I want to be as accurate as possible, so I was wondering if anyone could point me to a few descriptions. Maybe I'm being lazy, but I honestly don't feel like rifling through all the books. Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks. -Pat

Or does Aviendha's refusal to let Rand touch her again annoy anyone else? He's obviously gagging for her, he cant stop looking at her, she flaunts herself infront of him (funny yes, if you're eventually going to give him what you're offering) and in the last few chapters there have been some very 'romantic' moments (I have read the series before, so know how this continues). For example when lifting her off his horse in Cairhein, when discovering that bale-firing Rahvin had erased Mat, Aviendha and Asmodean's death, and so on. But yet she refuses to let him near her other than aforesaid contact. It annoys me. I know she feels bad for Elayne, she feels she has 'toh to her,…

Re-reading The Shadow Rising, I can't help must notice that the situation in the Two Rivers when Perrin arrives is a mirco-chasim of the world later in the series. You have trollocs harassing the flanks. You have whitecloaks being influenced by a darkfriend advisor. And then the villagers trying to survive the best they can. The trollocs represent the Shadow forces striking at Randland's flanks and in direct raids. The Whitecloaks represent the Seanchan who are an outside force that has invaded and started to institute their rule of law on the common people. The villagers are the people of Randland who are trying to act like the al'Sheens and stay on …

Do the snake men that Mat encounters in the twisted red doorframe in TSR have the same ability as Min (or min has the same ability as them)? It says, (but I can't quote cause I don't have the books here), that they looked above Mat's head before they answered his questions. I believe that Min also looks above people's heads.

If you look at the cover for book 6, LoC, you can see a flying creature in the sky. What is this supposed to be. The only flying creatures that i can think of are the ones the seanchan use, and i pictured them a lot differently. Besides I thought they had four legs. Idk I dont remember them all that well from the books. There is another cover with it on there, i think KoD.

I was re-reading KOD and the part where Aram attacks Perrin just doesn't wash unless he was under compulsion. Perrin would have smelled something wrong in him if Aram were slowly becoming distrustful of Perrin (brainwashing ala Macema)Aram just snapped and tried to kill Perrin. The comment Sammael made to Graendal in LOC also came to mind here. The "events to the south have Demandreds mark all over them". I believe Demandred or someone in his service used compulsion on Aram to try and kill Perrin when the opportune moment arrived. Sort of a time bomb. Also, I think Aram was supposed to say something incriminating against Macema so that if he failed, suspicion would …

  17. So, the listing of forces arrayed on the various side of the Last Battle got me thinking. What exactly is the comparable effectiveness of the different units we keep seeing? Is a Trolloc more effective than an Aiel? How many men-at-arms is a Myrddraal worth? How much more effective are the Seanchan Fists of Heaven or the Legion of the Dragon than the Westlands' more standard recruits? In an attempt to shed some added light on the raw numbers assigned to each side, I've attempted to place a numeric value on the battle-effectiveness of many of the groups named, relative to each other. Granted, this is a horribly in-exact science, as it's tough to boil down strateg…

WH Ch.13 Pg 311 (In my 1st edition hardback) "She had begun gathering sisters she trusted, those here with her and others, the day she first heard of strange events in Shienar..." Okay we have some idea what Cads has been up to for the scope of the books. At the beggining of EotW she was helping to capture Logain, we also know that she once she helped with that, she rushed right off to Saldea to help capture Taim. She first shoes up in Carhien, with a few sisters in tow, and she makes the above cited comment, while still in Carhien. This sparks a few questions for me. 1. Why is she gathering sisters? 2. How many sisters has she gathered? 3. To …

  20. Started by The Lost One,

Again, I am doing a reread of the series and I am trying to figure out things I missed. At the beginning of A Crown of Swords Taim keeps trying to insist that Rand keep some Asha'man (sp?) with him. He would like to pick out the ones to leave with Rand. Rand finally agrees on keeping one, but Taim is surprised and frustrated (I think) on who he picks (Dashiva). Why is Taim trying to leave certain ones with Rand? to spy on him? or for other purposes? Does anyone have any idea what Taim's goals for this are at this time? Does Taim know who Dashiva is? Please let me know your thoughts - don't worry about spoilers, I have read the entire series. Thanks!

  21. Started by The Lost One,

I am continuing my reread of Crown of Swords and I noticed that after Rand got cut by Fain's dagger, Dashiva gets Flynn to come see what he can do to help heal Rand. Why? In addition to this we find out that Flynn had learned a way to heal that isn't that great from Taim, but then discussed healing with Dashiva and learned this better way of healing. Why did Dashiva teach him or lead him to learn that? Dashiva seems to be helping out way too much, I don't get it.

  22. I've experienced it. It's almost spooky. You know exactly what is going to happen. It's like you've dreamed it or actually lived it before. You know every word that will be spoken. And, when you change the scene by saying something different, you avoid a fight or some kind of trouble. Or, in one case, I knew that if I didn't slow down that when I turned a familiar curve in the road a deer would be standing there and I would swerve going into the ditch and my sleeping cousin would not wake up...when I slowed to make the curve, I saw the tail of the deer flashing into the woods just beyond my headlights. :o Anyway, this isn't exactly what Elaida does. It's not …

Ok, i mentioned this in another thread and recieved blank looks, so im going to restate it with apologies if everyone already knows about it. :) Ok, this conpiracy was first noted by Suine, who tells Egwene that all of the Sitters raised in Salidar aside from Moria and Romanda (and excluding those who had been Sitters before the split) were too young. And she stresses that this IS weird. Now, Moria was raised into the Blue, and is therefore exempt because the Blue and the Red both have no involvement with this. It is only the Five other Ajahs. And Romanda... is Romanda. She wanted a seat, and she got one. Later, in CoT, Seine notices a similar trend in the Sitters…

  25. In Winter's Heart, chapter 22 "Out of Thin Air" there is a part near the beginning where Lews Therin Telamon is speaking in Rand's head. He says: "You destroyed them already. Now you have someone else to destroy, and not beforetime. How many will we three kill before the end, I wonder." Lews Therin and Rand are obviously 2. Who is the third? Or is LTT so crazy he just can't count? Also in Winter's Heart, lately when Rand siezes or releases the Souce he gets dizzy, but has also been seeing a mysterious face flash across his field of vision. Who is that face? Is this anything like Perrin and Mat seeing waves of colors at the thought of Rand? Finally, in Cr…

I've been re-reading the series & I've found myself thinking about the whole Logain Vs Taim thing, is Taim one of the new Chosen? So on and so forth. Anyway the general consensus, correct me if I'm wrong, seems to be that Taim is at the very least a high up dark friend, if not one of the chosen. However I think this is all a big feint in the complete opposite direction. When I was reading Lord of Chaos, or it might have been Crown of Swords which I'm reading now, I came across a passage where I think it's Egwene or Min, again I'm sorry about my vagueness, has a vision of Logain stepping across a black funeral pyre, in all probability Rand's, and laughing. I think RJ …

Ok, I put this in the old forums, but too late to be put in the new ones and I don't know how many people are still active in there, so I'll put it in here too. I'm doing a reread of the series, and am about 1/3 of the way through tEotW. I noticed in Moiraine's history of Emond's Field speech that it used to be refered to as Aemon's field. I was thinking this was the name evolving over time as the history was forgotten. Any ideas?

  28. Started by The Lost One,

I am doing another re-read of the series and I am at Lord of Chaos and I came across a part that I was confused about. Maybe someone can clarify? When Sammael and Graendal meet they refer to a Binding. Sammael hints toward it in trying to get Graendal to bring it up, but she doesn't. When he leaves, Graendal is surprised Sammael knows about it and thinks that the only reason she knows about it, is because Mesaana slipped when she was angry. She also thinks about it in conjunction with how long Mesaana has been in the White Tower. What Binding are they talking about? Is Mesaana bound by the oath rod?

  29. Does Faile's kidnapping drag on and on, or is it just because it was years between the books? Is the length of the kidnapping OK if you read all the books at once? Can I even set up the poll with enough choices? Can I even figure out how to set up a poll? PoD came out in 1998, and Faile was kidnapped at the end of it. She was a prisoner through WH (2000) and CoT (2003). Rescue came in KoD (2005). Please vote the first book that you had to wait for (starting at Winter's Heart). I won't try this with "Did Salidar take too long..."
