So, I have a new piano teacher who has just that kind of ageless face of an Aes Sedai and just the sort of calmness they have. When she in middle of the lesson wrapped a shawl around her shoulders my image of her was ready. Whoa, I thought, but what would be her Ajah? (The shawl was grey but it had white tassels) Then she used the word "logical" more than once so she certainly was White. I have never thought of this before but there has to be more of those "real life Aes Sedai". Or is it just in my eyes that I see an AS in her? I was just wondering whether somebody else has seen or met that kind of people too. Or in some other way WoT related persons. Post in here to…

Emperor Urtica rules over a nation threatened from within and without. Hordes of invading creatures are threatening the northern islands, where the city of Villiren is commanded to hold out against impossible odds. However, with most of the imperial armies dispatched to Villiren, political intrigue and anarchic violence are taking hold of the streets of Villjamur, the capital. To combat the threat, Urtica recruits three individuals and transforms them into super-powered warriors, the Villjamur Knights, but must use a mixture of threats and promises of rewards to keep them in line. Meanwhile, a priest arrives in Villjamur on a quest that has already seen him marked for…

Does anybody else agree that an anime series would be an amazing format to present the WoT series? Has such a thing ever been discussed before? I'm new around here, so forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere. siterock

csami, I'm not quite sure where you got your formula from but from a physics point of view: V (velocity or speed) = D (distance) / T (time) which would give you: T = D / V I'm an Aussie so perhaps you have a different set of representative letters but it seems to me that your "s" represents seconds and if this is true, then your formula won't work. How can you work out the seconds it will take to run 100m when you need to know the answer (time) to be able to complete the formula?

Peter Parker are Roland Deschain (The Gunslinger) - are a couple of others I think are good examples. I certainly think the the most TRAGIC examples of protaganists in the fantasy and sci-fi genre that qualify as 'Anti-Heroes' are definitely Bruce Wayne, Rand Al Thor, Roland Deschain and The Doctor. Maybe Pug ConDoin too. And I might put Fitz in from Hobb...well, no, maybe not, because he is not really an ''Anti'' Hero - just a sad hero. Thoughts? Fish

Tolkein created something special in his development of the fellowship of the ring. To this day, authors use his model to develop groups to fulfill quests, their adventures which we love so much. Let's say, however, that we're drafting a new fellowship. Which nine characters throughout fantasy would you use? No limitations. Just please designate a ring bearer in your post. (And for fairness' sake, let's stay away from characters like Aslan. Evil just doesn't stand a chance when you're legitimately got God traveling with you). 1) Natsu Dragneel (Fairy Tail by Hiro Mashima) 2) Sirius Black (Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling) 3) The Vampirate Captain (Vampirates by Justin S…

Decades in the future, the world has been revolutionised by the introduction of photosynthetic hair. The poor now no longer need to be fed, as they can live off sunlight alone, whilst the rich flaunt their wealth and power by their unnecessary consumption of food and cutting their hair. Supermodels are now immensely fat and the rich very bald. A well-off family undertakes a skiing trip to Mount Ararat on the Turkish-Iranian border, but during their holiday their daughter, Leah, is kidnapped. Attempts to track her down fail, but a year later she is found and returned to their home in New York City. But Leah's return preludes a time of immense change in the world, as revolu…

I need something epic to read. Something as massive as the Wheel of Time to sink my teeth into. I've read A Song of Ice and Fire, I've read the Malazan Book of the Fallen and I've read Tolkien's works. I've read a little Robin Hobb (though I read Assassin's Apprentice in an afternoon, so she isn't big enough for me), some Abercrombie, some Feist, some Wurts, wont read Stephen Donaldson or King. I am open to reading science fiction as long as it's not.. well.. science-y. I'm fantasy at heart you see and I don't care how a quantum plasma cannon works. As long as it blow's stuff up then that's all I need to know. So, any recommendations?

Hey folks! It seems I'm in bit of a bind, and was hoping I could get some help. I've always loved the fantasy genre, but until about 2009, I had been reading alot of sci-fi (mainly the Horus Heresy novels and other Black Library books). That was when a friend of mine introduced me to the WoT series, which I don't know how it had escaped notice for so long. Since then, I have been going back through my fantasy collection, re-reading what I can, which leads me to my current predicament. There was one book that I found very interesting, but I can no longer find. In short, it was about a young woman who inherited a magic sword that could be wielded only by women, and wou…

There is an exciting new development here at Dragonmount, and I’m looking for some people to be part of it. We are planning to improve and increase the content on our front page. As a result, I am calling for applications for two people to join my staff as bloggers. Applications for these positions will be open until Tuesday, July 26th. Description of the Job Positions: 1. The first open position is for a Wheel of Time Theory Blogger. This person will be responsible for a short weekly column about WoT theories. An example of a topic for the blog might be similar to this: "Terez posted on her blog last week that Demandred is really X. On our forums, Luckers s…

I can't find the original thread on this topic, so I'm just starting a new one. If anyone can find the old one and bounce it up for me, I'll merge them. Anyways, I finished this last night. Very good book. Shallan is my favorite character so far, but Dalinar is close second. I was kinda "meh" on Kaladin's story. As for the parshmen/Parshendi being the Voidbringers, I don't buy it. I've read too many Sanderson books to think it's that easy. "There's always another secret". But it's intriguing nonetheless. I'm also very interested in the nice old man king who was an evil mass murderer the whole time. I want to know more about that. Very good kick off to a ser…

So I'd like to pose an... I dunno, I guess it's a question. Say we want to educate someone on Fantasy Literature. This person is interested in fantasy, but has never been exposed to a vacuum. He has one hundred dollars to spend solely on fantasy media (we can include the adjoining genres in this too. Horror, Sci-Fi, Mystery and whatever else). So I'd like to discuss what we'd take this person's hundred dollars and spend it on. A couple of rules. First, link to your product. Shop around if you like. You can find a used copy if that'll save money. Second, Time doesn't matter. This person can absorb the media immediately. Third, in your posts, let's keep a runnin…

Surprised this isn't already up, but WoT made number 12 on the NPR's Top 100 Sci-Fi Fantasy novels of all time list. Looking over the list and seeing LotR at number 1, Dune at 4, ASoIaF at 5, 1984, A Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451 all make the top 10, Princess Bride at 11, Malazan on the list, Space Trilogy on the list, Once and Future King in the top 50, etc I really quite like this list. Kinda wish Tad Williams would have made it on though. More people should have voted for Otherland. But overall not a bad list, to me. Sanderson made it twice. Rothfuss is on there. No Scott Lynch, yet. It's a nice mix of contemporary and classic though. Top 100 list Check it out.

So how do you think the DO stands up to other villains? I would say he is obviously more powerful than say Sauron or Voldemort. Less powerful than Morgoth. Morgoth loose in Randland would have been very bad for them. Sauron would have been as bad as the DO bound I would think. Torak is pretty powerful as well since he is a god, though he doesn't really seem to do much. Brona (aka The Warlock Lord) from Shannara seems pretty lame to me now heh. What do you think?

So dad has finally decided to look at my homework that I have done over the years that could count for highschool work so we can write a transcript so I can possible go to school and further my education. I have him the homework of a science book I did in the 7th grade because I did it then even though it was a book that was three grades ahead of me. I had never been official told what exactly to do in this science book or what was expected. So I did everything there was and I did it to the best of my ability... And I mean I worked my butt of in that book! So dad comes home today and says: "there is a thing or two in this book you need to redo a bit, such as exp…

Anybody live in the affected areas? It's kicking off in Toxteth, Liverpool now. Following London riots over the weekend and the riots in Wolverhampton, Bristol, Manchester and Birmingham earlier today/tonight. 16,000 coppers on the streets of London has kept them off streets of London tonight. Did people see the pics of the Sony distribution Centre in North London? Completely gutted in a fire after the dickheads (sorry for the language but thats the least they are) got away with everything they could carry. Millions of pounds in damage Great stories of groups of 50-100 people getting together and protecting communities. Comments...

I'm sure we have all read certain scenes in books and afterwards have thought that it would look amazing on the big screen. I'm sure I'm not the only 1 who was delighted to see a Balrog on the movie screen or Ride of the Rohirrim. Well here's some I would like to see... So I'm in college to be a teacher, and recently I've been contemplating an idea for a English class dedicated to Fantasy Literature. I pose this question to you, denizens of Dragonmount. How would you like that class to be taught? What books would you like used? Would you want fantasy movies, music, tv, poetry, plays, comics and videogames to be used? I'd love to hear opinions on the matter. Please let me know what you think!

Quite a few races have been invented in SF&F. Which one is your fave? I've had a liking for R. A. Salvatore's dark elves since I began reading his stuff. I think my favorite of all-time, though, are the Star Trek Andorians. They always looked incredibly cool to me, and I thought they were the best aliens Trek ever came up with even before The Next Generation began, despite the fact that nothing was done to develop them culturally until Enterprise came along. Once the prequel began to do some episodes featuring them, I was really happy because I felt they'd been overlooked for a long time.
