Hey y'all, I'm looking for some recommendations for fresh fantasy, or at least some thoughts on a few books I'm thinking about picking up but haven't yet. Recently, I've read Nights of Villjamur and loved it, as well as all the Joe Abercrombie Books. Of course, I like WoT and ASOIAF. I've also recently read Acacia and The Other Lands and loved them, as well as Lamentations and Canticle. I was disappointed with Gregory Keyes' Thorn and Bone Series (I couldn't finish the last book, which to me was a big macguffin bomb that didn't compel). So hopefully this gives you an idea of what I like. Dark and epic, multiple PoV, not opposed to magic, but not hung up on it. …

Ok before you say anything, i did look up other topics on this and they only helped little. See I'm very picky when it come to fantacy books or series. So I was wondering if you could help me find a book that fits what i like and don't like....I'm gonna list them: I don't like a lot of "creatures" WoT has them and WoT has the right amount, some books have so many it's ridiculous, I like creatures but not an overload. I also don't like a lot of magic, again I like magic and stuff but if the book centers around it then I don't like it, WoT does good with this (except its not magic it's the True Source)LoR does good with this too, uses it wisely. Again I'm not …

there is a virus going on MSN which works like this: The Virus uses the contact accounts on your list to send you an internet link. The message àlways starts with a link and a winking smiley DO NOT CLICK ON THAT LINK!! You should close the window and not respond to it in any way. Know that the people from whome those accounts are are not aware that this is being done with their accounts, so no fault is laid on them. Post here the names of the people you get one of those link messages from, so they can be aware of it. I'm not sure what solves it, but people should be at least aware of the fact that their accounts are being used. The…

Sorry to bother, but I'm currently writing a review paper for my English 1010 class and chose as my subject, what else, The Wheel of Time. As one of the three sources I need I hope to get some simple reviews from other die-hard fans like myself. If anyone would be willing to submit the ONE thing they like MOST about the entire series, it would be most apreciated. I will then choose the one I think ties in best with what I have so far, and go from there. May you always find Water and Shade, Jenn Hama N'dore of the Cache Valley Sept of the Taardad Aiel.

EDIT: I wonder if WERT knows about this series lol! ;) ... Anyways... I just wanted to make this recommendation to my fantasy series - loving pals here! :) It was written by Glen Cook who also wrote the unrelated (though also solid) Black Company novels. It was written in the 70s and 80s and is hard to find but CAN be found on ebay, occasionally Amazon and in used bookstores. I recently found some books from years ago at my parents house when I was over there rifling around through old stuff and I came back across the books. Despite its age, and despite the fact that it IS admittedly a difficult find, I still wonder why this series (along with Company)…

jus seen the 3d version here in aus. wow, amazing. just the way everything looks. and those dog looking things were close to what I imagined darkhounds to look like except much bigger. And though I know and imagined raken and toraken to be ugly, the scenes where they fly on those colorful beasts in the movie reminded me of the seanchan. Even the golden eyes of the indigenous species of Pandora made me think of Perrin. Was also trying to figure out if those bows they use probably fit the description of a two rivers bow. jus thought ill share my thoughts on the movie since it reminded me of a lotta different things from wot from the way I had imagined it would be. And…

Neil Young is he the best recording artist ever? Possible. Likely. Sure is! Does anyone else like his music? What your favourite album? Fave song? Have you bought the archives? Worst song? Album that most made you think what the heck? Rockin out with the horse or on his lonesome? Has anyone bought the new live recording? Currently listening to Words off of Harvest. Possibly my fave song at the moment.

I will say that last weekend I watched movies 2 and 3 since they showed them on the tv and i reread most of Fellowship this past week. Ok...Peter Jackson and (The Brilliant) Sean Bean certainly want us to see this man as a sympathetic figure...a tragic anti-hero... Buuut...i don't know if I buy that. I really don't. I read the book this past week and Tolkien presenst Boromir in a rather stand-offish way, to my perceptions... I understand that Sean Bean ('s Boromir) truly wanted to do good and thought that if they destroyed the One Ring that they would be destroying a weapon that could help his people...You really see (Especially in The Extended Cut DVD…

The Illuminators Org is currently searching for people with experience playing or designing RP Card Games (like Magic:The Gathering, etc...). We are in the process of developing our very own Card Game based upon a world created by our Writers. The world is called Suras and is filled with magic users named Singers. Singers draw their powers from a mysterious stone called Bonestone. Legend has it that bonestone is the very bones of their god. We are in need of people to help bring this world alive in the form of a Card Game. Special needs are those who are familar with game mechanics and the real how-tos of card games. If you are interested, please swing by t…

Of the Peter Jackson movies I really do still think Two Towers is my favorite. ROTK still beyond magnificent though. A few questions: 1 Where did those giant birds come from at the end that saved sam and frod and how come Gandlaf got to ride them around? 2 Is it true peter jackson had originally planned for frodo and sam to marry each other at the end? 3 I hate that the scene from the book where Aragorn tells Eowyn that he has wished her happines since he first saw her was not in the movie. 4 Alot of the stuff, including the battle, at that place where Denethor was Steward of seemed like a rehash of The Battle of Helm's Deep in two Towers. …

Heard about a series of books a while back. They are based on the Book of Revelations and the war between the anti-christ etc... it is an American series of novels that are quite recent and were best sellers in the States but not in Britain. I know this is vague and I appologise but if it rings any bells I was quite interested in reading them. Thanks

This series went out of print for awhile, and is just now being reprinted in the US. It's comprised of five (planned) story arcs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wars_of_Light_and_Shadow), with the fourth story arc being released next. I tried the first two books in the series, Curse of the Mistwraith and Ships of Merior. While I appreciate how much work that Wurts has put into developing the landscape and the backhistory of the series, I simply could not get into the story. I think part of the problem is that the main concept (brothers cursed with enmity for the other) eventually runs out of room and further development as the series goes on. I think the Elaira cha…

I am going tomorrow with a friend to see this movie and I have read mixed opinions about it. Pretty much everyone says that the movie is not based on the novels.. personally I haven't read them so I really don't mind. Have you seen it? Did you like it?

For those Aussies that are attending, go you! Which show? Excited? Wish they'd release the damn schedule already? I could not be looking more forward to seeing The Mars Volta and Muse, and there are about 30 other acts that I will cruise through during the day. I am not looking forward to Central Station at 1am on a sunday morning though!

I hear alot of questions about how it can be confusing early on...if it becomes clearer later...if you stick with it will it be worth it...etc etc. My question has to do with none of those things. Those are not that important to me. I am trying to resolve to try these books once more. The thing in a series that is the most, by far, important thing to me is CHARACTERIZATION and physical descriptions (at least at first) The reason I have tried several times to get into Gardens of the Moon and failed is not because its too confusing, too wide-scaled etc...but because it seems Erikson has no skill at (and makes no effort at) characterization...Paran and Tatters…
