Winter's Heart is panning out to be one of my favorite books in the series so far.

Go figure.

The long Perrin segment at the start was a bore.

But I love Ebou Dar.

And it feels like there is constant progression going on in the Matt/Seanchan arch so far

Vs so many segments in the middle of the series felt like endless repetition of these two officers met in this field and then these two politicians gathered at this court and then blah blah descriptions of the same stuff over and over again

Maybe I'm giving the rest too much credit for the fact that I really got sucked into it when the story shifted over to Mat

480 pages in, shaping out to be one of the quickest runs through a WoT book for me

Path of Daggers took me over a year.  I'd read a chapter every week or two and then forget about it.

Yeah, Winter's Heart indeed moves the plot forward more than both what comes before it and what comes after it. Crossroads of Twilight, however, is considered one of the worst books in that regard, so... good luck. After that it's only gaining speed, though.

 

Also, what did you think about the scene with Rand meeting his girls?

Everything about Rand's love life is awkward beyond measure

It ruined Min when she'd started out as a good character.

 

Elayne was never a good character to begin with.

 

Aviendha actually has a developed, plot-relevant reason to have feelings towards him beyond ta'veren so I just retcon it in my mind to that.
