Trump's not stupid.  His scam about publishing a blacklist of all the people who voted against him in the last election isn't real in so far as all he's doing is pointing to public records and saying "I'm going to make these public records!"  But it's scaring dumb people to sacrifice their right to vote.  Colorado saw a spike by the thousands of democrats delisting themselves from voter registration.  Thousands doesn't mean much on a national level, but can have a major impact on local elections.

You can register independent, but then you can't vote in primaries.

For instance if you'd wanted to vote between Sanders and Clinton you would have to declare yourself a Democrat on your registration.

You have small children it's in the job description

There's not a log of who you actually voted and your social security number is not public record.

I guess that makes sense

 

Party leaders are elected dependent on party, labour is a combination of sitting no votes and registered members of the party, but that's independent of the electoral list (too early to English well, bodes well for meetings this afternoon)

So basically all that gets released is "some guy named John Smith who lives in the third municipality of wherever was a registered democrat and voted in the last election".

That's been public record for as long as I've been around.

Trump's actions aren't actually changing anything.  He's demanding the establishment of something that was already established years ago.

But people are uninformed and it scares them so they remove themselves from the voter rolls and go into hiding.
