I still don't get the point of Fantasy Football.

No, just not into dungeons and dragons or fantasy football. That or my friends completely sucked at running it and it tainted my experience.

Well in both cases the point is to indulge one's imagination. In the case of fantasy sports it is to try and create your ideal team and then see how they play out. In the case of D&D it is to imagine being the character in the story, and not just read about them.
