TarValon.net hosting a drive for gaming materials

The following note is from Melissa over at TarValon.net. Their community - which is in many ways like a sister site to Dragonmount -- is hosting a drive to collect gaming gear and funds so that allied soldiers in the Middle East can having a gaming convention; the first ever in a war zone. Below are the full details of their drive. If you're interested, please read the following and contact them to participate. Let's show them how the Dragonmount and Wheel of Time fan communities care about

Forum Policy Change

A few months back I made some changes in an attempt to eliminate spammers and for a while it seemed to work.   They're now back with a vengeance.   For this reason, we've enacted a new technical policy. Posting links on the forum has been disabled for anyone with less than 15 posts. This is something that should happen automatically and won't require any changes on behalf of the users. Once you've posted 15 times or more, you will gain the ability to post links.   Like all technical change

DM Gallery quota increase

Because we have this new server that seems to be running so well, I thought it would be nice to give you guys an increase in our Community Gallery. The previous quota was 1 MB per user. That has now been increased to 10 MB per user. Plenty of room to upload a nice-sized collection of images "celebrating our community and The Wheel of Time".   Enjoy

Server Upgrade Successful

Dragonmount.com has successfully been moved to a brand new server. No data was lost in this transition and (multiple) back-ups were made.   ... For those of you who are interested...   This is the first server upgrade we have had since 2002. The old server ("saidin") ran nearly non-stop, 24-7 for about 5 years. It hosted this site as well as several other smaller sites. (While I'm at it, check out www.Spectre-Movie.com)   When one of the hard drives on saidin crashed last week, I moved

The Dragonmount.com website will be migrating to a new server later this week. As a result, I'll be pulling the site offline in order to safely migrate all the data over. I do not forsee the loss of any data, and will take every precaution to ensure that nothing gets lost in translation.   Thanks for bearng with us as we migrate over.

DM server problems

The Dragonmount.com had a hard drive failure today. Thankfully, due to (semi) frequent backups, we're back online and all is (mostly) well. The most noticable change is that all data on the site is outdated by a while. All forum or news postings since Feb 23rd have been lost. Only one of Robert Jordan's blog entires was lost, but we will restore that ASAP.   Here's what we're going to do in the meantime: - Restore RJ's lost blog entry (Sorry, comments since 2/25 are gone though) - Repa

2007 Poetry Anthology

We as the Illuminators Guild would like to open up submissions for our bi-annual Dragonmount Anthology. This anthology will focus on Poetry. Multiple submissions are welcome. All works must be original pieces, they may be odes to your favorite author but please do not write with in their worlds, about them yes, in them no. For example you can write a poem about how the Wheel of Time books make you feel, but you cannot write a poem depicting Rand's escape from the box at Dumai’s Wells. You will

Anthology Update

The Dragonmount Writer's Guild now has merged with the Illuminator's Organization here at Dragonmount and we have taken on the Dragonmount Anthology. We are in the final stages of the anthology. We will not be able to make a January 1st release date as hoped, but we have not forgotten the project, it's just taking a little longer than we'd planned on.   I will keep you up todate on this as it developes.

Forum Maintainance

I, once again, am going to attempt to address the rising amount of spam on the DM forums.   Tonight I will be locking the forums to prevent changes while I am working. The process is going to be fairly involved, and will require about an hour to complete. When the forums come back online, there will be a few small things that people will see different, but there will be a whole slew of tool that the Administrators will have to deal with spam. Some of the "behind the scenes" changes will also m

Several WoT fan sites are mentioned, including Dragonmount.   The article is filled with some great insight, and includes a discussion of the fate of the final Wheel of Time novel, A Memory of Light.       Personal thoughts: This article is the first time that Robert Jordan has publicly said that he's open to the possibility of having someb

A CROWN OF SWORDS audiobook coming soon

Audio Renaissance, the publisher of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time audiobooks, is planning to release the unabridged version of A CROWN OF SWORDS at the end of this month.   This is welcome news to many fans because for quite a while there has not been a way to get a copy of the unabridged version of this audiobook. This new version is read by Michael Kramer and Kate Reading, who have read the rest of the series unabridged. Michael and Kate are the husband-and-wife actors who were personally ap

FAQ Down for a moment

Okay, I've been playing with this for a little while, testing and retesting.   I've brought the FAQ down for the next 20 minutes or so. When it comes back up, it will actually work!   All of the content of the FAQ will still be there when it returns, but some stuff, such as page views, may be gone.   Updates when it returns.   [update: The FAQ is back up, and should now be working. Thanks for your patience.]

Site Maintenance

Tonight I will be doing a forum upgrade to make sure we're running the most current version of the forum software. Also, I am adding several new features aimed at preventing, locating and deleting spam.   The forums will be locked later tonight for about an hour for all non-Admin members while I migrate all of the content. Once the forums come back online, all of the posts, private messages and usernames will still work fine, nothing will be lost. I am only locking the forums to ensure that no

Dragonmount.com celebrates 8 years online

If you can possibly believe it, Dragonmount.com has been online for 8 years now. It began as a small website and mailing list assembled so that I could talk to people about the Wheel of Time books, but it exploded into something much bigger. Thank you to everyone who visits and contributes to the site. Thank you to the dedicated individuals who have been coming here for years and have stuck around even when things get dramatic or tiresome. Thank you to Tor Books, and all the other vendors who
