In rereading ToM, I read the part where Birgette learns that Mat is in Caemlyn. She thinks "He has a nice tush, but his face is way too pretty for her tastes." Considering what happens to Mat's face later in the book, is this a case of foreshadowing here?

Ok, so there has been a little theory swirling around in me for a little bit now and it goes something like this... (actually a bunch of little theorys) So the Aes Sedai in the AOL were looking for an alternate source of energy and so they ended up "drilling" a bore into where the dark one was being imprisoned. But what did they drill through to get to him and where did the stuff that they removed to make the bore go?? (after all a bore is just a hole, an emptiness) Firstly here is my suspicions about the DO I suspect that The Dark One was created by the Creator as the source of power to turn the wheel and was created EVIL by the Creator so that; a) he…

Hey guys, I was just wondering if there are any lists of the books in WoT. I DO NOT mean the novels themselves, but the books referenced within them. For example, we have: Fog and Steel by Madoc Comadrin Jain Farstrider's Book(name?) and that is all I can remember. So I was just wondering what other books are mentioned during the series.

Probably posting this in wrong area but i feel I'd get best help here. I'd like to get a wot tattoo but I'm not sure what I should get. I don't want anything big or hardcore just something that overall symbolizes series. Any ideas?

I am not sure if what I have to say are actual spoilers but just in case I wanted to make it known in the title. I decided to read through the books again before reading the last 2 that have been released. I have a question about a couple of things and I am wondering if I am way off base here. I remember about artifacts that are either found or talked about such as flashlights and even a stasis box. Is this world such that a long time ago in the their past they had advanced technology but when they discovered the one power technology kind of became unnecessary? Weren't they studying the one power when they started the bore hole but sealed it when they realized what was th…

Has anyone else thought that the mention of Mordeth/Fain as (I havent the exact quote here, forgive) "something that had never before existed in any previous turning ove the Wheel" as in any way significant? When drawing Lord of the Rings paralels, Mordeth is a great analogue for Gollum, and Gollum it was who actualy destroyed the Ring (albeit unwittingly). My theory is Mordeth will have a very significant part to play in the climax. I see it as a three-way duel between Rand, Mordeth and Shaidar Harran (or Moridin, he might want a rematch for when Rand killed him to death as Ishmael), (or even Demandred, but realy, what a lackluster fight that would be; Demandred's such…

The Finn said 'you shall give up half the light of the world, to save the light of the world'. So Mat gave up half his eye-sight to save Moiraine. But does that make her the Light of the world? What IS the Light of the world? Mat's other eye? That would be rather lame. Any thoughts? Theories? Conspiracies?

The first - the Black Tower. So gateways have been disabled...but what about skimming? Has this weave been lost? I find it odd the red aja think themselves trapped in the Black Tower simply because they cannot channel gateways? They are Aes Sedai and all other weaves work. I can think of a dozen different ways, using the one power, that they could escape: disguises, skimming, distractions, try using the power to create an escape tunnel out of the city. The second - after Matt, Tom, and Moiraine escape the Tower of Genji Matt tells Moiraine that Morgaise Trekand is dead. Galad and Morgaise were both in Caemlyn when Tom and Matt were there. I find it hard to be…

Does the Wheel of Time universe have a name? I'm currently halfway through The Shadow Rising and I haven't seen any name given to the world. Is it named later or does it remain unnamed throughout the series?

So call me sacrilegious but after trudging, very literally trudging, through books 7-11, I find it hard to believe that Robert Jordan could have wrapped up this series in a single volume. The series had gotten so bogged down in politics and posturing, meeting after meeting, everything from the very minute details of Andoran politics to political posturing in the White Tower. Am I totally off base if feeling that Brandon Sanderson has done a great deal to swing this series back toward the action adventure type series it was in the earlier novels? I'm reading through ToM last night and Sanderson, for his faults, does a masterful job of building events and tension up in a…

So I've had periods where I will take breaks in between reading but lately I've been reading all day every day pretty much and I keep relating people to characters in the book (in my head, I tried saying "wow, that chick really sounds like Verin but they didn't understand)... but like, sadly my mom reminds me A LOT of elaida and this friend of mine, jeff, reminds me of perrin alllllll the time.. anyone else have this "problem"?

I'm in the middle of a re-listening of the audiobook of ToM. This morning on my one hour bike-ride to work I was struck again by the beauty of the chapters "A Making" and "An unexpected ally". So much epic stuff happens in these two chapters: 1) the forging of a unique weapon 2) the 'epiphany' of Perrin about leadership 3) the build-up to a battle with tension as to Perrins intentions for the Whitecloaks 4) a truly epic 'more melee than OP'-battle with well-described view of the tactics 5) some major characters motives change Now ofcourse there are more points I could add to the list, but I'll stop at 5. Because in my humble opinion these two chapters actua…

I was in the middle of a re-read and came across this in LOC (Courage to Strengthen) after Egwene paid her toh to the Wise One's for pretending to be Aes Sedai: So Egwene is currently positioned to be a major thorn in Rand's side and I'm guessing something is going to have to happen to convince her to join him rather than continue fighting him. Is it possible that some part of their reconciliation will be sparked by Egwene's necessity to meet her toh toward Rhuarc? Or have I missed something? Has this already been dealt with? I know Egwene has since met with Aviendha and Melaine in the Dream World, but I don't remember it being dealt with. I can't remember Eg…

I would imagine Rand will comment on it, its a pretty big accomplishment. We havent seen how PW weapons were made in the AoL but I doubt LTT had much to do with it so knowing how it was done may not be part of the memories. I would think work like that would be beneath the station of LTT or any of the Chosen. Also, Perrin would have known tempering techniques from making farm implements like scythes and such. A sword would have the same tempering as a blade made to cut hay. I worked a forge as a teenager and temper is one of the basics you learn working metal.

Its intesting how he changes over the course of the books. When Perrin and Egwene first meets him, he is described as being handsome, Egwene dances with him alot and so on. After his parents gets killed he picks up a sword and follows Perrin around. There is alot of viewings about him, the tinker carrying a sword, and u get the impression that he will be very important. Maybe showing a new path for some of the tinkers, or becoming some sort of dreadlord (he was kind of creepy). But then he is kind of dropped dead by RJ, he is simply killed of. I pity IMO.

Okies, I see references to Westlands, Randland, Seanchan but does each continent have a name, and what is the whole world called? For example, is the continent were the Seanchan live called Seanchan. What is the name for all the countries up to the Spine of the World, are they really called the Westlands offically? If not we should have a vote! Is the Aiel and Shara considered to be one continent with two names, or two countries, and if so what are the whole area of Shara and the Aiel called? Are the Seafolk Islands called Tremalking, or are there more islands? And finally.... what is the planet called? Is it called Earth, I don´t think we have seen any referen…

So I'm finally starting Gathering Storm, so I might just have to wait this out and see if it actually happens, but couldn't Rand use balefire on Semmi to get his hand back? If I'm jumping the gun on making a thread and should just wait and read more, I will gladly shut my mouth, just lemme know... BUT I thought that would be a good reason to use balefire for just a moment. Kill a Forsaken, and get his hand back. Two birds. One stone.

So, I just finished ToM (I know I am very late but I was waiting for it to come out in my native language) and FINALLY came back here after what seemed like years of keeping myself away from spoilers. I have just one word to say about the book: WOW. I am sure you've all discussed it for a long time now but I just wanted to ask if anyone else was as touched and overwhelmed by it as me. I mean I started tearing up when I first opened it and read what Loial had written, then when Rand helped that poor guy and his apple trees, then when Rand started crying and apologized to Tam. The list continues with practically every appearance of Lan and then culminates with Mat's experie…

Will Ta'Veren carry Rand/Matt/Perrin through the last battle or will their connection to the pattern end when they arrive at the battle? Is it possible Matt or Perrin could die in the battle and not break Ta'veren?

Hey guys, Was just wondering if there is a direct link between the Children of the Light...and the Knights of Templar. Both groups seem to have blinders against all ideals that dont coincide with their beliefs, and both are easily identifiable by certain symbols/ colors on their uniforms.......just curious

If this has already been brought up, I apologise. I did look, but found nothing. Please direct me if you wish, to where this idea has been discussed... So, being a long time, and multiple reader of TWoT, I thought I had a fairly good understanding, and decent knowledge of the story. Imagine my surprise when I discovered this site about a week ago, and proceeded to rush home from work everyday to read more and more. Hidden gems in the writing, theories (all well mannered discussions too, unlike most forums) and foremost on this list of discoveries, Foreshadowing. So, all excited about this amazing, genius and astounding technique/tool, I try to explain to a soo…

Hello, there are several theories over who is taim whether its demandred moridin etc with the so called aiel comment, let the lord of chaos rule black and red colours etc. When reading the Q/A with RJ he would normally answer the more direct questions with RAFO, but why was he so quick to rule out that it wasnt demandred, i also read that alot of fans perceieved that RJ found out that all the fans worked out it was demandred so he changed his plans for taim, but then he answered saying he tried to do this with fans discovering theories but its too hard, so he stopped doing it. My question is is why was he so direct with shutting down the demandred theory wouldnt it h…

I don't know exactly why, but I have a feeling the the tinkers and their lost song will be an important part in AMoL. We have seen them in quite a few books, and Aram was notably a very important figure. A lot of aiel running off to be tinkers... Tinkers travelling with Perrin to the last battle? Rand KNOWS what song they seek... What do you think their part will be in the grand scheme? Besides turning tail and running lol.
