Hello all Thought i would start a topic about Mat and hope it hasn't been done before. This post by the way concerns the last 3-4 books of The Wheel of Time so hopefully it won't spoil it for anyone, anyway my theory is this. You know in the Seanchan propherecy they say Rand will " Bow to the the Daughter of the Nine Moons". I think he will, although it won't be the Daughter of the Nine Moons it will be Mat. I have to admit my theory is shaky but the story is pushing towards Rand bowing towards the Seanchan. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to take into account that Mat has been "touted" as a noble throughtout the later books in the series and maybe Rand will not…

Hi, I'm relatively new to the series. So far I'm a third of the way through book 3 and one thing's really intrigued and confused me while reading. I remember Ba'Alzamon telling Rand that the two of them have fought countless times, and each time Ba'Alzamon has won. Does that mean that there were other iterations of the Dragon before Rand and Lews Therin, or is Ba'Alzamon lying?

I would imagine many readers have gotten characters mixed up. For me, the one that stands out the most is that there was a Seaine, a Saerin, and a Sarene. That always struck me as taking the potential confusion to the extreme. I also noticed that there was a "Silvie", as well as Silviana, and Sylvase, but you'd never mix them up because they're nowhere near each other in geography or time. I also myself used to say, or think, "Talmanes" when I meant "Tallanvor" and vice versa, which is a little embarrassing since they're not quite as minor as any of the above. Anyway I'm not complaining, I just thought this might be a fun topic.

A few weeks ago, the Dallas Tower Guard had the opportunity to get together once again with the man behind the final chapters of our favorite fantasy series. For those of you who were unaware (and don't feel bad if you were, cause I admit I was too), the weekend of Feb 18-20 was the tenth annual ConDFW, a one hundred percent volunteer-run, literary-focused science fiction and fantasy convention created by the Texas Speculative Fiction Association. How I didn't know about this Con is beyond me, cause it was a good deal of fun and was quite honestly very well put-together by a base of fans who are truly faithful to the genre. More to their credit, being the wise and awe…

This may be just my own misunderstanding, but several times during the series, the phrase "to be put to the question" is used. Im just wondering if this means something specific in the Jordanverse, or if it's an actual term. And it seems to mean something different depending on who's saying it. Thoughts?

We see her line of descendants. We also see her actual grown up kids. We can tell by Bruan being there that it hasnt been gone too much time since the LB and the current time in that last viewing. But they think and talk like both Rand and Aviendha are dead, considering atleast that Aviendah must have survived the LB to give birth to the babies she is still somewhat young. Im curious as to happens here, we dont know for certain the Rand will survive the last battle, but Im kinda convinced tht he will. How come those two just disappears? Are they murdered? Mainly wondered if anyone else of you people starting thinking about this. Ofc we cant find a right answer, but th…

I don't know if this has been picked up on before, but I've been thinking about what the Dragon Reborn's role actually is. In ToM, he says he thought he was being shaped into a weapon but realised that was wrong, but when Min asks him what he was then being shaped into, he changed the topic. I am thinking, along the lines of his transformation from darth rand to mahatma rand, that the true purpose of the Dragon Reborn is not really to fight the Dark One, but to heal the world of him/his taint. His very presence these days is cleansing to the world around him, he has denounced himself as a weapon. This might also have some implications for the last battle. Egwene a…

I briefly considered making this a poll then quickly discarded the idea. That would narrow things too much and limit your creativity. Here's the concept: Our society today is leaps-and-bounds advanced compared to the one that exists in the WOT series. Imagine if you can going to sleep in your nice clean warm bed then waking up in Randland...perhaps sleeping under a hay stack in a farmer's field on your way to Caemlyn. (This could make a really neat series on SciFi!) Besides that silly cell phone that all of you are so addicted to and that none of you really need, what do you think you would miss most by being there instead of here? Obviously, this is not a serio…

Anyone remember how the servants of some the chosen had dead eyes like a dolls eyes? Now we have asha men and aes sedai who seem changed with "dead" eyes. Taim isn't Demandred but we know Demandred has some ties to the asha men (some of the turncoats believed their orders to kill Rand came from Demandred).

This has probably been asked and answered prior to this but I can't find it. Who saves Rand in Aridhol in The Crown of Swords? Is it Morridin (didn't spell that right) or the "partner" to Mohegian's rescuer? I think that it was Morridin based on the prolouge of the eighth book but that is all the further I've gotten too. For those of you at the same place I am any theories?

Hi all, I'm a newbie to this forum, but certainly not to WoT which I have followed since the books first came out. So now that we are finally coming to the end (bittersweet), and I am ALMOST finished with ToM, I feel the need to vent/commiserate with other readers. At times through this long journey I have hated some characters, then grown to love them, then fallen out of love with them, etc. etc. Currently I am really over Egwene, and Min. And I think I just hate Tuon because I hate the Seanchan and their a'dams. Grrr. Egwene - [sorry, I just wrote this whole rant about her but then pressed that magic key on my keyboard that somehow erases everything I just …

About in the beginning of last month, I picked up the first three books of the Wheel of Time, interested in what the series was about. What was funny, though, is that I actually confused it with the Discworld series by Terry Pratchet, and I wasn't aware where I heard of the Wheel of Time. I was sure that I heard it before when I started listening to Blind Guardian, who has made a few songs about the series. Needless to say, when the books arrived I was taken aback a little. I read that the series is numbering in at least more than 10, and when the books seemed like big, fat bricks, ominously eying me down with their incredible size. 800 pages. 800 Pages of in a sm…

Hello, This thought has been lurking around in my mind for a while and after getting fed up with the search thing I decided to just see what people thought. The theory is this; instead of Rand dying LT dies (goes out of his head or something). I have noticed a fair amount of what LT says in Rand's head involves dying and additionaly Aliva ( I think that was her ) said something about helping Rand to die. This puzzles me because it always seemed to me that Rand seemed ready to die when the time came. There were some other things that I forgot but other then this it is mostly conjecture. Thoughts?

I've seen lots of references on various boards and communities that Egwene must be strong in Spirit, since she's a Dreamer, and Dreaming "is a thing of Spirit", as Moiraine put it. Is that true? I cannot recall it being mentioned in the books that she's strong in Spirit. That she's strong in Earth, yes. That she "hardly has to think twice" when using Water and Air. But not really anything about Spirit. Have I forgotten something? Or is it just an assumption people make, that Dreaming means you're strong in Spirit? Unless there's something to quantify it, it seems as, as Dreaming is not even a Talent restricted to channelers.

Rand manages to trap the Darkone as well as the Forsaken in prison, and he seals it just like LTT did. The Darkone manages one final counterstroke, tainting Saidin. Male channellers go mad, including Rand. Rand slays all of his kin and starts wandering his palace in madness, not noticing all the dead bodies (most of them his own family) strewn about. Moridin, who somehow managed not to be completely trapped, shows up and grants him a temporary moment of sanity. Rand realizes what he's done and travels to some new spot on the planet, draws way too much Saidin, and kills himself, causing the ground to split and shoot up in an enormouse new mountain. Basicaly, everythin…

Right... here goes... I, like the majority of yourselves am a huge fan of the Jordan machine and all that comes with it, including this lovely website. Now. My one annoyance is that all competitions are closed to those outside of the US (apologies accepted, staff, but not very fulfilling to those of us who feel left outside). It's a big ol'world out there, after all. I've decided, therefore, to start a petition to request DM open the competitions up. It would mean a lot to us. This petition is unofficial and probably holds no water, but hopefully enough voices will be heard. Consider this message to be my signing, please sign yourselves and many thanks to you…

I'm along time lurker and I've tried to find a topic that discusses what the Aiels role in the last battle will be. I've read more topics about theories about if the Dreamworld will be involved as a part of the last battle, and the Aiels believes seems to point in the same direction if you look at the above quotes...

I did a quick search and found plenty of posts regarding this but no specific thread. I was wondering what everyone thinks about the colours and images that Rand, Mat and Perrin see when they think of each other? What do they mean? Why and how did they start and what relevance will the have in the future? Why does it not happen in Tel'aran'rhiod? I don't have any theories of my own but when reading The Gathering Storm and Min mentions the line - "He shall hold a blade of light in his hands, and the three shall be one", I immediately thought of the three ta'veren and the colours they see. Not sure what everyone else thinks, I have no evidence for it but that's where m…

Just an enumeration of the major characters near the Three Ta'veren who we know are lightside, the ones we believe are Lightside with high confidence, and the ones who might be Darkside. This assumes that at some stage, there will be a bit of backstabbing in AMoL, so it might help to know where it's coming from. I'm relying heavily on PoVs where they exist for the absolute confidence section. I'm sure there are errors and omissions in the following but it's a start. Lightside groups of characters - based on PoV in the main Absolute confidence that the following are lightside a) The Three Ta'veren b) The 4 Supergirls + Min c) Moiraine d) Lan e) Tuon f…

While there has been discussion of the three becoming one, the three tav'aran tend to be buried by theories of callandor, or the three ladies. What I wonder is what effect their(the three boys) being together will actually be. I think the effect of being together will not just (!) bend the pattern their way. First, Rand is one with the land, he must effect all things, and all planes of existance, including the world of dreams. Perrin, has his strength in the world of dreams, he would be an anchor there and a defence. Mat, in an opposite has found his strength (finally fully realised) in the 'real' plane. his luck effects the world about him (i liked how perr…

We all know that Graendal is one of the most renowned healers in the AoLs, with an uncanny knowledge of the mind and of any mental afflictions even use of the One Power could not cure. You think Graendal will be asked by Moridin to do a favor for Mesaana, in her current mental state after her battle with Egwene? I won't doubt it but who knows :) Any thoughts?

RJ makes a big thing of equality ie. the DO and the Creator are equal and their champions Rand/LTT and Ishy/Mordin are equal. Yet the creator imprisoned the DO and when LTT and Ishy met Mordin lost how is it possible that their equal yet the good guys always win??

There still seems to be no agreement in the raging debate on the Taim=Moridin issue and I don't want to start another thread on that (so please try to stay away from that one of you respond). But I was recently surprised to discover that there is no agreement even among old timers on the issue of whether the current Taim is the same as the original Taim. I would have thought that this would be settled long ago. Some might not think it's important but I think it bears on Taim=Moridin question so I'd like to clarify it. I posted on this in another thread but it was very peripheral to the subject of that thread and quickly got buried there. Besides, I wanted to make this a p…

I read the start of LOC today and I figured out how Rand will seal away the DO. Follow me with this, it shouldn't be too hard 1) The DO is felt the easiest in Shayol Ghul, in the Pit of Doom 2) Shayol Ghul is past the Mountains of Dhoom 3) Mad male channelers in the AOL knocked mountains down, and built more up, effectively moving the mountains 4) Rand will pick up the Mountains of Dhoom and drop them upside down into the Pit of Doom, sealing away the DO under a pile of rock 5) All that is left over from the two canceling each other out is the 'h' in Dhoom, which is a silent h anyway, so there aren't any real problems with it hanging around Pretty sound theory…

This is the first viewing Min shares with the reader about Rand. I have been lurking on these boards since soon after the release of KoD. I do not think I have ever heard this viewing discussed at all. All the others have been obviously fulfilled, or analyzed to death. I still don’t believe the Beggars staff was when he was in Ebu Dar at the end of TGS. I do not even remember him having a staff in that sceen, and if he did I don’t think he did much with it. The bloody hand I am still not convinced has happened either. When Rand got his hand blown off there was no hand left. It’s hard to have a bloody hand with no hand. A bloody stump maybe. The white hot i…

Not sure if this should be posted here or on another forum, but I was wondering if anyone could help me out. On Wotmania there was a tool you could use to search the entirety of the WoT manuscript for a specific reference or phrase or whatever you were looking for. I was wondering if there was anything like that here at DM or if anyone knew where else to find one. Thanks!

If Morridin popped out after Rand killed those shadowspawns (and was exhausted), it would have been game over.

As far as Rand losing his hand goes, yeah, I saw that one coming from miles away. RJ foreshadowed that significantly. I can’t grasp exactly what it means for Rand and his allies at Tarmon Gai’don. Will he somehow get another hand of some sort before then? The appearance of the Fisher piece of sha’rah makes me think so, since the piece displays injuries to the side and the eyes alone. How this may come about, I have no idea. For now, I assume that Rand will have only one hand when Tarmon Gai’don arrives. Swordplay If Rand needs to wield Callandor during Tarmon Gai’don (as it seems he must, based on multiple prophecies), he must first relearn how to fight with a swo…
