Perhaps someone here can explain how Androl, a very weak channeler, can weave gateways? The gateway weave itself requires a certain amount of power to produce. Taim and Logain had differences of opinion about this 'talent' of his. Discuss.

So, anyone else thinks that Blood Knife can take on a Fade pretty easily, or is it just me? Also, if Gawayne took out three of them (granted by taking pretty bad wounds) you think he can take out three, or at least, two fades? And to make it even more interesting, let's have a little poll!

Same as most annoying. No debates, just statement of opinion and why. While only one answer in the poll, it is hard to choose, so post top 3 if you wish. 1. Nynaeve: She has been annoying in the past, but ever since she married Lan she has become awesome. ToM Nynaeve is simply the greatest. Her testing was my favorite chapter in the book. As Rand said. 2. Moiraine: The second greatest Aes Sedai (after Nynaeve)She willingly went to the Finns where she was tortured to save Rand. Her devotion is simply astounding. Again, a quote from Rand 3. Birgitte: How many times does she have to save Elayne? Awesome character. She is a hero of the Horn. That…

I must have missed it in the text, and can't find it on a map. Where are the armies gathered near the end of the book?

Hello :) So I'm doing a reread, and Perrin has just agreed to be arrested, but then goes back on his word by saying that the Whitecloaks didn't help hold the line. (after the trollocs are dealt with). Then, after the Trollocs are killed off in the epic battle, Bornhald tries to arrest him, but Perrin says: Am I the only one who has seen this? P.S I probably wouldn't have bothered with this, but I'm really bored and thought, may as well point it out :)

We know from the Rhuidean columns that Avienda's children are weird in their ability to channel - constantly holding the source, doing so since childhood. So here is my question for you. If you took a young child (say a three year-old) could you teach him/her to channel? All we have seen in any culture is that they start training when they are teenagers and older, but that doesn't mean that they couldn't necessarily learn earlier. So are they really that freakish, or is it just that everyone else is truly limited because they learned when they were older? A second question that may be a bit of an inconsistency, Bruan (the only clan chief in the vision to rememb…

Watching Beyond Thunderdome for the Nth time. Great series. But I cant help but picture Aviendha as the main girl savage that shows/tells Mel the story of their past before they find the airplane. Anyone else that has seen this series of movies feel the same way? And if not this one, what movie star makes you think of one of the Rand-landers? Who is your perfect fit for a character? I can totally see Kathy Bates at Cadsuane. Clive Owen as Taim. Ryan Reynolds as Mat(work with me please). Donald Sutherland as Thom. Young Patrick Swayze as Logain. Natalie Portman as Moiraine. Rahvin as Joaquin Phoenix. Nicole Kidman as Morgase. Malcolm McDowell as Eamon Vald…

I've just finished reading KoD, tGS and ToM back to back to back and I noticed a few plot inconsistencies which I don't think have been discussed here yet. 1. Why didn't any of the Forsaken/Black Ajah break into the sa'angreal storage room in the White Tower and stole everything there was to steal long before Egwene got there in tGS? They certainly had plenty of time to do it and (as was repeatedly mentioned throughout the series) all Forsaken have been looking for any angreal and sa'angreal they could find. 2. Why didn't Mat ask Elayne for a gateway to the Tower of Ghenjei? He definitely knew she could travel as she was the one who made the gateway to Ebou Dar f…

Ok so I literally finished the book five minutes ago. So Sorry if this is already a topic cause I didn't go looking through topics to see if it already existed cause I'm freaking out mentally right now. So that said, one of the the things in the book I wanted to discuss is what has been foretold to happen to the Aiel. I personally would like to think that their extinction will be avoided but that could just be me being optimistic. So any thoughts

So you're hanging out in your house just kicking back. Some guy comes in, kicks your ass and throws you in a bedroom then locks the door. He then proceeds to set up this spinning thing in your living room that starts spawning all these bugs and molds and other assorted crap. The vermin are running rampant through your house, and all you want is to get out and clean the place up. On top of that dead bugs keep getting dumped in the corner of your room. I sure hope you were left something better than THAT to eat. That's the situation I think the dark one in the story is dealing with. No wonder he's so pissed off! If I could squeeze the door open an in…

I love the new Rand, but a BIG question I have is WTH is this newfound ability that Rand seems to have? Is it the True Power? Is Rand somehow more powerful in the One Power? Is this a new third, undefined "divine power?" (I call that the DP). Or is it something else? First, the True Power: I don't believe that this newfound Power/Ability/Awesomeness/Whatever it is, is the True Power. Not after how Rand was described in the book. Let's examine (based on what I can remember) why I think it is NOT the TP: He seemed to somehow burn out the eyes of Darkfriends or cause them to shy away from his presence. Would the True Power have that seemingly "good" effe…

Was the giant white sphere (Can't remember the name) above Paaran Disen actually the DO's prison, or just a "focus" like the seals? If it is actually his prison, two things: 1 Why did they build the greatest city in the world under it 2 Is Shayol Gul actually where Paraan Disen was? The Aiel in tSR where moving east, couldn't go north, then went south. On the other hand, LTT went to Shayol Gul to seal the bore, not Paaran Disen.

Note: This topic assumes that Egwene's dream of thirteen black towers in Towers of Midnight refers to the Forsaken. For discussion on what else it might mean, see the topic Towers of Midnight. Another Note: This is a long post, so if you don't like long posts then be warned that you're about to waste your time. Really, it's only for people who like nitpicking the prophecies of WoT. In Chapter 3 of ToM, Egwene dreams about thirteen black towers which represent the Forsaken. One of them partially collapses and then comes back tallest of all. The consensus is that each tower represents a Forsaken, with this tallest one representing Ishamael, who was defeated as Ba'al…

I'm kinda confused. When she saw what she did, i mean if she doesnt change things by telling somebody, we know how the story ends basically. Kinda upset me, but also leaves you on a cliffhanger. I have been reading these books since '89 I belive and havent been hanging like this with any of the novels. I mean, come on, really? When does the next book come out? The suspence is killing me.

Throughout the series, I have had questions about Demandred. His descriptions tell of a handsome, dark haired, tall guy. Just like LTT. Demandred went to the shadow out of envy of LTT. That always shocked me. Even Sammael, and the Netweaver, went over for the same reasons, but all the Forsaken talk about how Demandred's reasons were not so great as the others, even though his hate was stronger. Why? Simple. His twin (non-identical) was the Dragon, which ties in to numerous statements about how Demandred was almost the Dgragon. He is always mentioned as being just "less" than LTT. Plus, all of Rand's kids are twins or multiples. And that usually r…

I still don't see the importance of "Towers of Midnight" in the book. Yeah, it's the Seanchan base thing, but it never really was important. Or was it? I can't remember... This is what happens when you read it with a three day break in the middle. Meh. -Shadowfaxx

What, exactly, is the deal with Matt's memories? I always kind of enjoyed the idea that they were at least partly from his past heroic incarnations. Mat himself seems to think they are all from people who went into Finnland. But why would so many crazy good generals go there? Why would the Finns give him exclusively awesome soldier/general/hero memories if they just picked random memories from people they bargained with in the past? Also, didn't Artur Hawkwing recognize him somehow--I don't really remember that interaction and don't have that book anymore.

I am not a big "poster" here, but having read the series now for 20+ years, Something just occured to me: Female AesSeai have an issue with linking in order to seal the dark ones prison. Why? This has occured in both ages. Not to sound Sexist (as a Married man with three daughters), there is and will always be a certain level of timidness associated with the females, who are not conditioned to the harshness. The Seanchan only know war. It has been stated in other books their homeland is constantly in a state of succesion. You are a hard person to assasinate your own brother; But Tuon also knows the importance of the last battle (although I am not so sure she believ…

Can anyone please help me remember what the exact quote is for this saying? It's from the WoT and it's in the later books I think... It has Rand talking about becoming stronger mentally/physically, and he says something like, "The sword never likes the fire, but appreciates the forge"? Can anyone help me please? Thanks in advance! So I just finished TOM, and there I sat, in my comfy recliner, scotch at hand (I'd include the cracking fire and the setter but that would be pushing it,) chuckling at the antics of Elayne, shaking my head sadly at the blindness of Egwene, kinda ticked that Moraine got almost no play at all, forming arguments for why the unmasking of Messana was wholly unsatisfying - when, with all the force of a yank of the braid, it occurred to me. There is only one more book! Even if the light wins, it's over for the rest of us. This is an unsettling thought, for years and years and years, one might say since I metaphorically left The Two Rivers myself, I've been either reading the…

Hey everryone, I remember someone in the books saying that the Warder bond allows the bonded men to keep fighting past when normal men would stop from exhaustion. If this is true, then what would stop an Aes Sedai from bonding another Aes Sedai, thus giving them more stamina to use more of the One Power?

Rand using a sang'real hits Rahvin with a beam of balefire so powerful that he erases Rahvin's actions taken in the last 30 minutes at least. This way he restores Mat, Asmodean and Avhienda --sort of... But why his balefire did not undo his battle with Rahvin too? I mean he erased Rahvin from pattern. Quote from Encyclopedia WOT: "It is curious that his injuries did not disappear when he balefires Rahvin. Is this a peculiarity of Tel'aran'rhiod or does it mean that someone else set the fishpond trap? At signings, Jordan has stated that this effect is an artifact of Tel'aran'rhiod, not an indication of another conspirator." I think this was possible because…
