Was this actually the first time Rand channeled? and if so, what did he do?

  2. Started by Twitchy,

I can't find the quotes right now, but I think there's at least two or three statements during Min POV's regarding marriage with Rand. The one that's popping up in my head most heavily is in Winter's Heart, right after they all bond Rand. It's something like, "All this talk about sharing marriage was all well and good, but which one of them was REALLY going to marry him?" So my question is, do you think Rand will end up settling down with only one of the girls? Maybe visit the others every once in a while when the Wifey gets boring?

  3. The new perrin artwork really makes me want to have that cover on the front of a heavy, tangible, hardcover book. From what I understand though, it's only available on an Ereader. Is that correct? Will it ever come to the physical books?

  4. before she went into the ter'angreal, avi probed it for its purpose, and what was described was like a mountain, a huge conscious that was vast and powerful. after she went through again, it was said that it was no longer there, just an empty shell. How do you think it got that powerful, what was it for? and do you think avi some how killed it by going through twice?

  5. A Memory of Light The Time has come... The Dragon Reborn has been made new. With his victory atop Dragonmount, Rand al'Thor has defeated the Shadow's greatest plan: to twist him to despair. The world has survived it's darkest moment, and the Lord of the Morning walks the land. It is war, not subterfuge, that turns the day now. Or so it seems. Yet on the eve of the Last Battle, Rand is confronted by dreams of his former lover, Lanfear. Dark prophecy is yet to be fulfilled, and the Daughter of the Night may be more dangerous than ever. Caemlyn is burning, and the weapons Mat created for the Light may become its ruin. The Aes Sedai are united against Rand…

  6. Something that just occurred to me while doing another post - imagine if every character in Randland was somehow given access to read these forums in their entirety. (Let's assume Elayne knocks up some whizzy ter'angreal for such a purpose...) Who'd get the biggest shock? Egwene and Elayne, it can be safely assumed, might not be particularly thrilled with what they read. Tuon probably wouldn't care, on the other hand, nor Cadsuane. Mat, on the flipside, might be mildly astonished by how awesome he's generally seen as. Demandred might laugh his socks off, and Elaida would just be poleaxed by how she's viewed. Rand, of course, would get a few surprises of his own. '…

  7. I have seen a few predictions that there will be no channeling after the Last Battle. So I was curious as to what everyone thinks about this. Personally, I think the series has been building towards a new golden age of channeling once the Last Battle is won. Let's look at some of the things that have happened: - Lots of lost Talents such as Traveling and improved Healing have been rediscovered. - The making of ter'angreal has been rediscovered. - The existence of channeling groups among various races has been discovered and Egwene plans to tie them all together. - Saidin is clean and there is now a male channeling organization. - Men and women have been bondin…

  8. Here Be Mine: The Dragon Reborn: 1 - The Black Tower/Taim=Enough said. ... 2 - How many catastrophe's have occured now out of Rand's refusal to ''hurt women.'' ... Bonus - His strategy versus Sammael in Illian was pretty disasterous as well. Perrin: 1 - The way he allowed Faile to treat him early on. This isn't a ''Macho/Gu'' thing, if the positions had been reversed, I'd be screaming at Faile to stick up for herself as well. ... 2 - He's just too trusting. How many times has his naivite almost gotten him killed now? Where does it come from? You can't really say its ''Two Rivers Breeding'' because the Son of Battles and TDR are both 2RivBred as well and Mat …

Basicly, the question is who do you think will be "squaring off" against who in the Last Battle? I don't have everyone's role figured out, but im gonna make a few predictions: 1. Rand vs DO/Morridin/Padan Fain I have no idea how this whole thing is actualy gonna go down. 2. Mat vs Demandred Seems logical, they will be the top generals for their respective forces. Wont actualy fight each other in combat, but will be battling nonetheless. 3. Perrin vs Shaidar Haran (will take place in TAR) Dont actualy have a rationale for this one, it just kinda feels right. 4. Logain vs Taim Unfortunately they will both die and Narishma will come to lead the BT. …

Forkroot temporarily impairs the ability to channel. It's discovery has been significant. Without it, Faile would still be a prisoner. What would happen if Nynaeve stumbled upon a new herb. One that could temporarily allow a non-channeling person to have the ability to channel? "Anti-forkroot". This thought came to me in the shower (that's where I do my best thinking). Have some fun with it. Love, Gramps P.S. If this is a subject that has already been thoroughly discussed and I don't know about it...OOOPPPPSSS!!!

The problem with Perrin is Faile; The problem with Birgitte is Elayne; The probelm with Gawyn is Egwene; The problem with Mat is Tuon; The problem with Morgase is anyone with a penis; The problem with ... Lot's of characters seem to be pretty likable, EXCEPT when interacting with a PARTICULAR other character. Maybe the Creator just had a problem with writing about interpersonal relationships?

There are a few such characters that I have waited to see again, if possible. Sometimes for the lion's share of the series! Dermid Ajala - This Tairen blacksmith declared Perrin a Master and gave him his own hammer, the same hammer that forged Mah'alleinir. I have thought that Perrin's best scene in the series was Ajala's forge, until late in the Towers of Midnight. It would be fun to see them together once more. Bran and Marin Al'Vere, Abell Cauthon - Who would not want to see Mat's and Egwene's families again, now that they have "risen in the world"? Almurat Mor - The lone Seeker who stayed true to his sworn duty, he defied Darkfriends above him to help g…

Just a thought while pondering on Nicola's pretty sudden and random demise in ToM - although she wasn't necessarily the most likeable character in the series, that made her interesting, and I would have expected a little... more. OK, it's fair enough to kill her off as we're often complaining about the lack of Light-side deaths, but it was so sudden and out of the blue I actually briefly assumed she wasn't really dead. But no, that's it. Cheerio, Nicola, don't let the door hit your arse on the way out. Anyone else feel the same? A few other nominations from me: - Anaiya. Sweet, kindly Anaiya, one of the nicest Aes Sedai. Dies off-screen due to a random and previo…

  14. I am trying to figure out the differences and simularities between these two groups. When it comes to the Hall of servants we only know what we have been told in the books and what RJ revealed in interviews and his blog. From what I gathered, the Hall of Servants was not a political group like the White Tower is, it was more of a guild of sorts. Many the Aes Sedai of the Hall of Servants lived normal lives and only came together when there was need of using their abilities with the One Power. The Hall of Servants was mostly for regulating the use of the One Power and punishing those who misused it and keeping the technologies that depend on the OP up and running. …

I've been going through the series again and this keeps coming up. The first time through I didn't think to much about it, but now it kind of bothers me. You have three Uber Ta'veren and a whole lot of prophecies. So, why does everyone keep trying to "lead them on the right path." JUST LEAVE THEM ALONE!!! it will all work out.

  18. I see 4 possibilities: 1 The DO was able to do it occasionally and just used Ish as his occasional ''Troublemaker/Wild Card'' now and then that He loosed on 3rdAge Randland to stir the pot? 2 Ish himself was just SO inherently strong that he was able to will himself to 'bust loose'' every so often? 3 There were just weakened ''holes'' in the Forsaken's Prison nearer to where Ish was slumbering. In other words: Elan just got lucky; coincidence. 4 The Pattern itself - maybe even the Wheel itself - is just randomly causing events like this to happen? My thoughts: Well, for years I think I probably thought it was maybe a combination of 2 and 3, but r…

US residents might want to take a look at this: http://www.dragonmount.com/index.php/News/tom/graphic-novels/new-spring-giveaway-r81 I know this isn't strictly WoT discussion material, but it's been pointed out that most of us don't stop by the main page on our way to the forums. PS Why only US residents? Yeah, I hate it when that happens too (though, personally I don't mind when it's about graphic novels. Not my cup of tea, as they say). That's how Tor wants to do it, though, so that's how it is.

Start on page (paperback) 536 - 542 of CoT - Egwene PoV - A Chat With Suian. It's too long to post in it's entirety. You're going to have to read it for yourself. The allusion begins with: This conversation with "Suian" is really with Matrim. This is the allusion. Egwene and Matrims conversation starts at The 'tight letters' are the ta'veren. 1: AMOL foreshadowing with a lot of red herrings thrown in. This is all really tangled and clamped together. 2: Luck = Matrim. Dumping those Oaths is what we're being clued into. Don't pick on Matrim about his eye! The allusion ends with,

So i was thinking, who are all of these random men chaneling in the distance we see, or well dont see, in ToM. in the Borderlands they sense men chaneling far off and when perin goes to help the white cloaks his asha'man feel men chaneling. So my question is do we think they are just "black" asha'men or are they another group we just have not seen yet. My question comes from, i find it kinda bold to have asha'man being so out in the open where all it would take is one of the good guys seeing who it is to maybe start another purge in the black tower like they saw in the white tower. I know we know Taim is bad and the black tower will be dealt with, but the charac…

Ok people, This idea has been running through my head for a few days now. Bringing everything back to basics with what we know about these "Ladies" physical abilities (ie: NO Channeling), who do you think would win in and all out "Catfight"? Aviendha, our hot-headed, often PMS'y Aiel Mistress of Pain, or our Dark, Porciline (spelling?) Doll-like "I'm Gunna Rule You All" Empress of Mayhem, Tuon? Personally, I pick Tuon, as i actually know two girls who fit their physical descriptions pretty well (albeit without all the combat training), and the one who resembles Tuon is faster, has better balance and is deceptivly stronger than the other. Any and all reasons …

  28. Who taught Aviendha to travel? Did she just make it up to flee Rand? Or did Wise Ones teach her? I know that Rand knows skimming but who else knows to travel as of TFOH --aside from Forsaken? To refine my question: Did Rand learn to travel from Aviendha by looking at her gateway? Or did he learn to travel before TFOH? How the Aes Sedai and Rand learn to travel? How Aviendha could travel to a place that she does not know? Is this the difference between traveling and skimming? It seems you do not have to know your target location very well to travel there.

I know there is already a thread for speculation about the last book. But I wanted to open thread specifically for discussion about how the series, or more specifically the Last Battle, will end. And I thought why not include a poll while I'm at it (though I have a strong suspicion where most of the votes will land). I thought about including a second poll for major character deaths but thought better of it since there is already a thread dedicated specifically to that topic. Maybe I'll add one later on. I know where my vote lies but I'll wait until a few more come in first. Go.
