So I just finished the first book of the series. Absolutely loved it! However, I have some questions. And would like you guys to answer them without spoiling the rest of the series. My first question is what to do from here. I checked out the Great Hunt and own the prequel. Which should I read first? Is the prequel even worth reading? I've heard you should read book 1 before New Spring. Feel free to ask your own questions and answer others' questions. As well as discussing the book itself.

In Book 4 Perrin & Co would travel through the Ways in small numbers Machin Shin would soon catch up to them. I know Perrin is tave'ren (sp?) and may attract Machin Shin, but from KoD with Rand in Tear, and now Caemlyn we have seen massive armies of Trollocs come through unharmed. This got me thinking about Sammael in ACOS who left the Waygate open at Shadar Logoth. Is it possible that it was still open in WH when Rand cleansed the taint. Not only did he cleansed the Source but the Ways as well? The taint in the Ways created Machin Shin if i remember correctly??? Or is Machin Shin balanced by something else It would also help Loial's Ogier army to turn up anywher…

Ok, I skimmed through this part of the forums and didn't see anything. I'm currently reading ToM and I am near completion. One thing that really has bothered me though is Tam. Near the early parts of the book Rand had him brought to Tear and then gave him a task. I thought it was doing something in the Two Rivers but I may be mistaken. After this happens though in Perrins Arc he always refers to Tam as being there and training the Mercenaries. He never says anything about Tam being gone. Later Tam does leave but the time frame isn't right for the meeting in Tear. I assumed this was him leaving for the big confrontation that Egwene has planned for Rand. So has any…

Just re reading the whole series... Questions 1: why are there no really old Aes Sedai any more? Although they are old, none of them seem to be as old as those mentioned in book four. Question 2: The power that broke the Sharom (the world?? the breaking??)...said to be a new source of the one power where men and women use the same source....perhaps the true power (think that's what it's called)....and the Sharom, a great sphere...what was it's purpose, and will rand and nynaeve restore that by using the keys (thus restoring what has been lost)....Im interested in hearing your thoughts on this :)

I've done the impossible. I have been a Wheel of Time addict since 1990, and am on my 5th reread of the series. My wife of 11 years has silently dealt with my addiction all these years without complaint or judgment. Then, a little over a week ago, she mentioned that she wanted to start reading a good series. For the 50th time, I mentioned that I had a good gateway drug called The Eye of the World. Anticipating the coming explosion, I was dumbfounded when she accepted and picked up the book and lit up beside me. I never thought this day would come. Now I'm just dealing with the fact that I have doomed my wife to a life of addiction

Tuon is one of those characters that I despise above all else. To be able to torture and kill with no remorse like she does reminds me a lot of a darkfriend or forsaken. I know that was how she was raised but I can't excuse her even under those circumstances. I'm just itching to see her fubared! I hate hate hate her and all of the "nobles" who've ever lived or ever will live that think they're better than us. FREEEEDOOOOOMMMMM!!! Tuon is a mix between Paris Hilton and Hitler.

Spoilers bellow. Hello everyone this is my first post here. I am now at book 8 and I have enjoyed the series despite some well knows flaws. I hope it wont appear pretentious but I'm going to start with an alternate twist for a plot line. I dont know anyone who read these books and I need to share this. So here goes. The plot line where Rand get kidnapped by the embassy from the White Tower caused me so much rage and anger by the way he was treated that I was left wanting more from that plot line. When I put down the book an alternate scenario surged in my head. A way that was much more satisfying to me and more compatible with the emotions I felt. I wish som…

No TOM spoilers follow: Ok. So much talk about how in Books 12 and 13 Rand and Perrin's story arcs are out of sync in terms of the overall Timeline. But - I noticed something very interesting ( to me, at least, lol) near the end of Book 11 that really...well...I'm not sure what it means, to be honest, which is why I'm asking you guys, lol ;-) The commonly accepted thought is that Perrin and Rand's Timeline is SEVERELY out-of-whack in Book 12 and much of Book 13 is an attempt to bring the two back in sync. Ok. I am fine with that. ... Think about this though: If the 2 Timelines are so problematic in Book 12. then is it not fair to wonder ''Where/When did the pr…

Ok, so here goes... We have 50 or so AS bonded to Asha'man and some Asha'man bonded to AS. Let's pick Narishima and Merise for examples in this hypothetical situation. Jahar is currently bonded to Merise as her Warder, so what would happen if he used the male bonding we see Logain use on her? Would it cause some sort of bond feedback causing severe headaches to both, or cancel the original bond, or cause the bonding to intensify so that they 'feel' each other much more intensely? Or what about from the other side, what would happen if Toviene bonded Logain as her Warder now that she is already bonded to him? Just something to think about.

Spoiler bellow.(good thing I rearead myself cause I initially forgot the "p" in that sentence) This a rant(I guess) about a one moment in the series that still makes no sense to me. It's the moment that broke the Aes Sedai for me. Broken as in damaged and less credible. How is the way the tower split is even possible? In the first three books we are led to believe the Aes Sedai are an organization that has been going for thousands of years, with ridgid rules and a strict hierarchy all under the Aymerlin Seat. The next thing we know is that not only is it possible in this organization to depose the Amrylin Seat in half a day by stretching the rules to their…

Hello everyone! I'm about 75% done with ToM and there have been a few questions that I keep pondering but was hoping for some clarification from the experts. First of all, I cannot seem to figurie out why Egwene didn't keep her sleeping body guarded when she was busy baiting Mesaana in TAR. I know at first she wanted Gawyn to stay away because she wanted the assassin to show up, and then later on Gawyn was away in Caemlyn, but when Egwene went to sleep to meet up at the Musician's Way and then to go fight the Black Ajah in TAR, didn't she think she should at least have SOME type of guard protecting her unguarded body in the waking world?? She is the Amyrlin, and al…

I seem to have stumbled onto a parallel that I have never seen noted (though it probably has been). The creation of the bore seems to be based on the Greek story of Pandora, wherein she opens the "box" (also told as a jar) entrusted to her by Zeus, which she is commanded never to open. The allegory is that when she opens the box, it releases all of the evils of the world. This seems to parallel Meirin's act of boring into the DO's prison. In the AOL, the world was a virtual paradise, until she created the bore, and released evil upon the world. Anyone else notice this?

i'm still reading the knife of dreams and have finished all the rest of the books as well, doing another read thru for the new book. But what do you think the likely hood of Noal being Jain Fairstrider is? I know that somewhere in this book he says that Jain is a "cousin", but im thinking with all the stories that he tells to Olver and the random pieces of knowledge that he seems to pull from mid air, its a possiblity. What does everyone else think? It would also kinda explain why he, Noal, has to go to the tower of the Ghenji with Thom and Mat...

I've been trying to put together a compilation of different troop counts from the multiple armies in Randland, but I've had one problem. I've yet to find anything real solid about the number of shadowspawn that each Forsaken command. I understand why they wouldn't want this revealed with a specific number, but I've not even seen close estimates. I may have just read over a small detail or missed something entirely, but I would appreciate any member's insight that they would provide.

Is the hardcover of this book hard to find or am I just looking in the wrong spot? I've found plenty of copies of it in a smaller form (like a 5 by 7), but I want it to match all my other WoT hard covers. I've been looking everywhere for the normal size, but I can't find it anywhere (amazon, borders, ebay, google)

One thing in the WoT that has always struck me as pretty lame is the phrases that are supposed to be vulgar/offensive. They don't seem to make any sense, except for Mat's refernce to sheepswallop (assuming "swallop" is colloquial for excrement) -- but then he tacks on "bloody buttered onions"?!?!?!? The "bloody" part might make sense, except that its linguistic roots in our world lie in references to "swearing" on the blood of Jesus of Nazareth. Aside from a few Sheinaran references to "goat-kissing", there are no vulgar sexual references I recall. I attribute this to Randland not having sexually repressive religions like our world. Some characters object to sex ou…

My husband is a HUGE WoT fan, and i am working my way through the books as well. As of right now i am on The Shadow Rising. I came here to actually ask a question that i dont think fits in any of the discussion forums on here (but ill do my best) Christmas is coming up and a friend of mine, another WoT fan, suggested that i get my husband an Asha'man coat with the pins on the collar. The problem is is he said that i could use any oilskin duster but i am not far enough in the books to know if that would even work. Is there a specific coat that would work better? Or would a duster be perfect? I would ask my lady, but i havent been able to get ahold of him. Also we HAVE …

I've just finish re-reading the series and am wondering if anyone has considered this: In Lord of Chaos Rand is told that due to the nature of the wheel and the pattern then at some point in the future the bore will end up sealed, not patched, sealed as though by the creator. In one of the latter novels, I can't remember which so I will stay vague in case it is from Towers of Midnight, Nynaeve is having a bit of a peak into rands mind and sees something which she does not recognize, I think it was described as being white or something to that effect. In one of the other novels, I cannot remember which although I think it is in the last half of the series some…

Okay, it seems that time and time again I read dialog where Aes'sedai talk about being careful and not being too brave, because it "only takes one arrow" or "crossbow bolt" from the shadows to take them down, yadda yadda. Okay, here's my problem wit dat. When Taim is training the male channelers (not yet Asha'man) on the farm (not yet Black Tower) somewhere in the first half of Lord of Chaos, to explode stones with the OP, he maintains a shield of air over himself to keep the exploding fragments from killing him, and he instructs the students to do the same. In fact, he tells them to remember to put up their shield at the same time as making the stones explode. Keep in mi…

Hi everyone. A few days ago i remembered a song that i used to listen to while reading for the first time the WoT books. This song brings back a lot of memories with it, including this amazing feeling you got when you first discovered all this story. Unfortunatly, i don't have this song anymore, and it's title brings so many answers in google that finding it there is almost impossible (and i put "almost" here only because i don't like the word impossible). I downloaded this song for the first time 8 or 9 years ago on one of the first WoT dedicated sites, www.wheeloftime.com. It was on the main page of the site, with another song, "Dahl" or "Dalh". I'm saying…

I have been trying to teach myself calligraphy. After attempting Lord of the rings quotes (The ring quote...All those who wander are not lost quote..etc) I am looking for cool quotes from the WOT's first four volumes. Anything else may spoil the series. I keep myself to mainly blogging until my reading of the series is complete. Heath

So when ever I'm watching movies or television, I tend to pay attention to the books used as props just to see if it is someting I know. I just caught The Path of Daggers on a nightstand and found it ammusing. Granted PoD is probably my personal least favorite WOT book but still neat. (it had no Mat)

wouldn't that be the ultimate toh? in the Wetlands alot of people choose to work for the Dark Lord cause they want money, power, eternal life etc. but Aiel usually don't consider that since they have a whole different outlook at life. so far the only Darkfriend Aiel we've seen has been Shaido and they were known for disregarding the customs even before they went past the Dragonwall. could that have something to do with it? i'm just trying to figure out what they would think to justify betraying everything they stand for
